Dr. Mireles Asks For Forgiveness

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

José Manuel Mireles Valverde, former spokesman of the autodefensas of Michoacán, asked for forgiveness from the government and his family “for having disrespected them with his words or actions.”

“I use this message to apologize to the Government of Mexico and its official and unofficial institutions, and its structures spread out throughout the national territory, for having disrespected them with words or actions, for having offended them with my omissions and civil disobedience,” Mireles said in a message posted on social networks.

To mark the start of the year, Dr. Mireles also apologized for having abused “liberal thinking and for having altered the political and social order of Michoacán and Mexico.”

Mireles, who was detained on June 27, 2014 and is being held in a prison in Hermosillo, Sonora, confessed to taking the decision of being “at peace with God, with the government, with my family, and with the autodefensa movement.”

“I humbly pray and from the bottom of my heart, I ask that they forgive me for all the harm I may have caused them or for the reason or reasons that they may have been.  I apologize to my children, for having abandoned them trying to solve a problem that is only up to the bodies of government,” is heard in the audio allegedly recorded by family members during a phone call.

In a part of the audio, he talks about his father and dedicates this message:

“To my venerable father, I ask for forgiveness for having left him at the age of 83; forgive me father for having done this during the last part of your existence, for having gone to fight in order for them to let us live in peace and dignity.”

“Forgive me father for having disobeyed you when they came to us asking for our help in order for the village to rise up in arms, you gave your good reasons: I’ve lost my wife, I’ve lost my cattle, I don’t want to lose any of my sons.  Sorry for having disobeyed you and now being left alone,” said the former spokesman of the autodefensas.

The audio, which lasted 7:42 minutes, includes a call from the former spokesman of the General Council of the Autodefensas for the release of all civilians detained for having faced against organized crime.

In the recording, Mireles says that it is necessary to build a new Mexico, but without arms and quotes Javier Sicilia, Bishop Raúl Vera and General Gallardo.

José Manuel Mireles Valverde, founder of the autodefensas of Tepalcatepec, Michoacán, was detained on Friday, June 27 2014.  The Attorney General of the State (PGJE) reported that the arrest occurred in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas for violating the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives.

Mireles was the only founder of the autodefensas who didn’t join the Fuerza Rural, a group which Estanislao Beltrán “Papa Pitufo” and Hipólito Mora did join.  He is accused of carrying firearms for the exclusive use of the Mexican Army, as well as possessing cocaine and marijuana.

Unlike the other 77 people who were with him at the time of his arrest (five of the detainees were minors and later released), Mireles Valverde was sent to the Federal Social Rehabilitation Center #11 in Sonora, on Sunday June 29.

  3. This is brave attempt to help get the hundreds of AD released from prison. I feel he thinks there is little hope in his release, or perhaps a deal is in the works.

Remember it was only a few weeks ago he declared "I have no regrets"

    2. Jared, Mireles is not famous for planting evidence, the mexican governing narco-mierdocracia is famous for fabricating guilty parties AND PLANTING EVIDENCE, La puta tuta is famous for making videos of his dealings with them, I can't believe you still are asking this kind of questions...
--But the SOLID evidence of corruption in the 7 million dollar "casa blanca" of la pinchi gaviota OR THE HOMES OF OSORIO CHONG, OR THE SECRETARIO VIDEGARAY, DOES NOT COUNT FOR ANYTHING...

  6. He should give EPN the one finger salute and stand his ground, the man had courage and bravery to do what EPNs and prior cabinets have failed to do. As someone said above and I agree he's broken.

  15. Chivis, is it safe to say they are being corrupt with this situation? i noted many articles of prisoners released due to failing health and aging? Wouldn't this qualify? Why is this not brought to the attention of the US? It may help. He is not exactly a big name all over the US. It is inhumane.

    1. a prisoner has to be over 60, and not everyone is granted house arrest.

it has brought to the attention of the US and the world. it does not look good. And he reinjured his back from "a fall" so badly he could not move. He injured it in the pane crash badly and did not finish his therapy in DF.

He sent me a email saying he went to the doctor (after the plane crash) and he had at least 6 more weeks of treatment. Then the next day he wrote and said he was in Mich! because of Smurf taking over. so he never completed his treaments and was still weak in the leg, back and arm.

    1. @5:54, Dead or alive, Dr. Mireles isn't done. This apology could gain his and the Self Defense AD their freedom when the Pope visits next month. Perhaps, he was blackmailed into to writing it in exchange for much needed medical care, Mireles is said to be in very poor health.

I don't know if he is in solitary confinement but I know for a fact the Government of Mexico wants to punish him and make him suffer as much as posible and sadly it's working. he gets no medical attention or medicine for his sickness unlike the Government's puppet chapo who gets anything he wants in prison. FUCK THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT!! I'M DISGUSTED!!!

  23. Mi opinion es que Dr Mireles is about to die or was forced to do this in order to be released.

Otherwise, why apologize to an institution that is never present to defend us from organized crime and especially why apologize to politicians?

  24. Pena Nieto is known for not forgive "offenses". Doctor Mireles in a speech referred to him as "Pena Nieto" not president, it did not sound very respectful (Not saying he deserve it). I'm pretty sure Dr. Mireles is getting out soon, I think that was one of the conditions for his release. My prediction he'll be out in less than a month..

Dr.Mireles is a hero to the people of Mexico his crime was to show how corrupt the mexican government really is.The Autodefensas did more to provide safety to the people than the corrupt government. The new rural defense force are just narco's in a federal uniform .I think all hope is lost for the people of Michoacán.

  30. In 1988 he was charged with producing marijuana , so the government says . He says that wasn't what he was charged with . He says it was practicing medicine without a license . Why do they insist he is a narco ? I hope he is as pure as the driven snow . Every time I try to post anything questioning this it never makes it to the board . I understand in these areas that have been producing for a long long time that almost everybody there is involved . I watched the documentary about him . There were many discrepancies between what I saw and what was in print about how righteous they were . They did have ARs of many kinds . Not "simple hunting guns" . Saw Mireles all but give the order to execute a prisoner . I cant say they were wrong . I can say that's not how they were portrayed in past articles . Are they righteous honest people or a lesser malicious part of the drug production in Mexico?

  31. This a.m., Dr. Mireles' attorney said we shouldn't pay too much attention to the statement because, after so many months in prison - 22 hours a day alone in his cell and lack of communcation with others - he's suffering from mental illness. I posted a video that has the audio in a Chapo thread. You can hear him crying during the statement:

  32. As an American of Mexican decent, it angers me to witness Mexico's current state. The blatant nefarious actions being carried out by the powers that be, from EPN all the way down to small town mayors. Unfortunately there is no peaceful resolution. There needs to be a revolution, in order to purge the government of corrupt parrasiticle individuals. "From time to time the tree of life must be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants" - Thomas Jefferson. Dr. Mirels is a patriot in his own right, and deserves respect, admiration and most of all our prayers.
