Commando Breaks Into Cockfighting Arena: 4 Dead, 25 Wounded

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

On Saturday night, an armed commando burst into a cockfighting arena in Ensenada and shot at attendees, leaving 25 wounded and four dead, among them, two minors.  The assailants fled aboard two vehicles and left three grenades in the parking lot, which caused panic amongst the attendees.

According to the Baja California district attorney’s office, an armed commando broke into an arena in Ensenada, Baja California, and opened fire on those attending a cockfight that left four dead and 25 wounded, including two minors.

On Saturday night, an armed and masked group entered “Palenque Póker” searching for, according to preliminary research evidence, a man known as “El Chino”, with the intention of killing him.

According to local media, the incident occurred on Saturday night on the highway Transpeninsular between Estancia and Delante Boulevard, just south of Ensenada.

At the time it took place, the cockfight had a total of 500 spectators, of which several were injured.

As a result of the shooting, four people were killed, among them two minors: a 16 year old and an 11 year old, according to officials.

The District Attorney’s Office of Baja California launched a preliminary investigation into the violent events that occurred.

Local media said that the attackers placed grenades in various parking spots that caused panic among the attendees.

Forensic specialists found several shell casings and a smoke grenade that was deactivated by the Mexican Army.

According to early reports, the attackers fled in two vehicles, which were later abandoned nearby.

The area was guarded by the ministerial and federal police, as well as the army.  The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

After the incident, the authorities proceeded to close the site, as well as the parking lot.

The magazine Zeta states that the deceased were identified as: Carlos Verdugo Rodríguez, 34, who died at the clinic #8 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS); Alexis Omar Pérez Pucheta, 16, who died in Hospital General; Ángel Iñiguez, 22, who died in Hospital General; Ángel Osvaldo Pérez Camacho, 11, who also died in Hospital General.

Simultaneously, another incident occurred in the city of Ensenada.  A man shot several times at a convenience store, located in Ex Ejido Chapultepec, without any dead or injured reported.

The attacker managed to escape and provoked a strong police mobilization.

    2. Seriously? LA Marina only does raids, not "regular" police work. And Chapo's guy did fire "huevos" - granades and they had RPGS too. I would say they needed a lot more and better training, firing a Barrett 50 and RPGS at close quarters is stupid. Short barrel M4 is much better in CQB. Smoke and CS granades would give you better cover. And while you're at it why the hell don't you have at least one car parked near a manhole cover for a getaway.

    3. If u read the article about chapos capture then u would of read that chapos ppl had rocket launchers. Id take that over a grenade any day. Plus a lot of the grenades these sicarios get are dudes and never explode when they throw them. Ive read many articles about confrontations with unexploded grenades littering the streets. 4. This was an attack against El Chino and El Marlon, both cell leaders from El Akiles from CDS, word in TJ is the attackers were from CAF. El Marlos is a former cop turned hitman for El Akiles who has been responsible for a lot of retailers deaths and also responsible for some kidnapings in tijuas. Some say el 300 was also there but he is supposed to be hiding in Chinola town.

Anyway, Marlon kept asking CAF to go after him, time and again asking for them to find him, leaving messages and shit, guess they did this time.

  24. Without reforms to the judicial and law enforcement system this cycle of violence is never going to end. Little by little this form if criminal activity is thoroughly alienating the American public. Sleazy politicians will prey upon the alienation. The bottom line is treating Mexicanos and Mexico like they are part of a DMZ. Enemies and enemy territory.

    2. As long as those in charge can be bribed, there can be no rule of law. Unfortunately our people can't seem to revolt against the status quo. As such they are ruled by a corrupt government that gets paid by those it's supposed to protect and those it's supposed to prosecute. The only loosers are the innocent people. Everyone else is making money and living the life.

    3. 4:12 You are maybe not familiar with Español written to Ingles. "Reforms" is a powerful word down here. It means "restructuring". Top to bottom. Believe this if you believe nothing else. Mi abuelo told me of the revolucion. After came total anarchy WHICH KILLED MORE OF US than the revolucion itself. ¿Entiendes? We are afraid more of anarquía (anarchy) than anything else. Our country started out corrupt when Cortes came. The came maliche the second traitor. Did your country start out this way?

Porqué después apareció una imagen de unos sicarios del CDS tropa élite de la Rana. Diciendo que van en contra los rateros, secuestradores, y contras. Those responsible for the attack were CAF members, CDS shoot back and that´s when all the chaos began. That pic of the alleges elite troops has been around internet from some time now, it was Rana´s people who barely escaped the shootout, the image has nothing to do with the attack.

In retaliation Akiles ordered Mono´s brother death, but he survived the attack the next day in Tijuas.
