Almost 92 thousand lbs of weed seized in Tijuana

Borderland Beat

Members of the Mexican Army and Agents of the State Preventive Police seized 41.6 metric tons of Marijuana (almost 92 thousand lbs) in the city of Tijuana.

On June 10, after an anonymous tip was given to authorities, a couple by the name of Francisco Pineda Villanueva and Blanca Estela Robles Garcia were arrested by members of the Mexican Army and State Preventive Police when they were driving a Honda CR-V loaded with 54 kilos of Marijuana.

After being questioned, the couple admitted they "worked" as guards in a warehouse were much more drugs were to be found.

After their confession, a search warrant was requested to the Attorney General´s Office and members of the Army drove in more than 40 vehicles to a warehouse located in Laderas street belonging to the Granjas Familiares area to make sure no one took away the drugs.

On June 12, two days after the couple´s arrest, the search warrant was given and the soldiers opened the doors to the ranch. Inside the ranch, located inside an underground room, the soldiers found 5271 packages with a total weight of 41.6 metric tons of Marijuana, the largest seizure of drugs in Baja California this year(a record seizure of 134 metric tons back in 2010 is still the largest in Baja´s history).

According to General Gabriel Garcia Rincon, Commander of the 2nd Military Zone, the drugs was in prime state and was packaged with over 15 different signs and logos(including the cartoon character Road Runner) which could give a sign of where they came from and/or where they were headed to.

The couple in charge of the warehouse was transferred to Federal custody and their 3 children who lived with them in the same warehouse were taken to the local DIF(Children care)

Gral. Gabriel Garcia Rincon and Governor Francisco Vega
The anonymous tip helped in finding this warehouse even thou, at least according to authorities, they knew there was a drug warehouse in the area, they just didn´t know exactly where.

Erick Lara Cabrera, Deputy Director of Intelligence for PEP claimed it took them several weeks of work to be able to find this place.

Unofficial information points to Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada as the owner of the drugs.

they don't traffic to the states. The only reason they would be in Tijuana is to collect tax

    3. Legalizing it WILL DO ABSOLUTELY ZERO to stop the violence down here. Start thinking Outside The Bong. Mex pot will always be LOTS cheaper than legal pot and money for killing will flow just as it does now. Legalization will decriminalize N-O-T-H-I-N-G ELSE. Some of you dreamers are incredible.

    4. 9:11 -agreed. There's Mexican mota all over Ca and Co b/c it's so much cheaper. Mexican weed has economies of scale on the growing areas, they pay field guards, harvesters, and packers 50-70 pesos a day and it's competitive price wise b/c of no taxes. People that say there's no money in Mexican weed are clueless. Most the narco wealth in Culiacan is from mota

  3. Concentrate the war on harmful drugs. Legalize the pot and let people grow it for themselves if they want. Clean out the prisons of pot dealers and users and make room for dealers of toxic drugs like meth, cocaine and others that destroy the mind and body and cause people to commit crimes and thefts even against families to buy it. Also making room for violent and other criminals. I do not use pot as I do not like it nor any other drugs. I drink on occasion and it seems that even alcohol does more harm than weed. If people are not happy and need to escape life and reality then let them smoke it. Bring out common sense laws and the world will change, because weed is not going away, and the money could be better spent taking out more harmful drugs and programs to educate people about the hard drugs.

    1. Yeah....weed is a gate way drug..just like alcohol is bad...but it makes sense to legalize it.

    2. Concentrate on harmful drugs? You say? Don't you know weed is a gateway drug that leads to other drugs. If you watch the documentary intervention they all started smoking pot first. Why don't american just get cleaned up. & live a drug free life period! Wise up america they say were the dumb ones because we keep wanting the drugs they are going to keep smuggling it. They are getting rich off the dumb Americans.

    3. Totally agree with you: LEGALIZE IT! ... but LEGALIZE ALL OF IT! Sure meth, coke etc. is bad for you, but the criminality associated with it will go away if it is legal (cheap, clean and 'safe').

Consider this: some patients having had serious accidents become addicted to the morphine used to treat accute pain caused by medcial trauma. Once the trauma has healed these people are not forced to quit the morphine, but are entitled to continue receiving the dose they 'need'.

These people live normal lives (with some restrictions like driving naturally), but do not go crazy and become violent. Sure long term use of the drug morphine (even if it is clean) is not good for them, but they are not causing any harm to others by turning to crime to finance their addiction.

If all drugs could could be bought AND consumed (in order to not expose innocent) in a controlled environment there would be no market for selling drugs illegally outside of the authorized channels.

Also, since the main marketing technique used by drug dealers today (giving away free samples) would be banned, there would not be any marketing of drugs anymore which would reduce their attractivness.

      Delete
    4. Legalize ALL of it, space powders, included. Pot, blow, Meth and human beings are trafficked on the very same routes.

      Delete
    5. Well 8:45 had the right idea. The rest of yall are a bunch of idiots. Yes everyone starts with weed cause its harmless. No one starts with coke and moves to a harder drug like weed. Come on man. People who are curious about drugs start with the safest. And not everyone who started smoking weed is a meth head. Grow up. And no don't make all these horrible drugs legal. Meth is bad at any price.

--It is like pimping, it starts with some friendship, then it is love, then women start whoring their ass around because they love their "man", and continue after they get to hating him, they rarely leave the life they never dreamed they would be living, and drug addicted for icing on the cake...
--People should be warned about "friends", because friendship is the gateway, to be frank...

    8. The gateway myth shouldn't even be a consideration when so many people die for the trade, for money. As usual with any myth, that's plain ignorance. It's a first world problem begging for a third world solution. Let it grow, freely, everywhere.

    9. Who cares if weed is a gateway drug, once weed becomes federaly legal, government should hike up penalties for harder drugs. This may at the very least make pot smokers think before they upgrade to harsher drugs. I personally never got that theory I started smoking weed at 13 didn't try coke or anything harder til I was in my 20s. Now I do no other drugs except weed, right back where I started.

    10. A weak argument that, "weed is a gateway drug". We can say the same for beer. Beer leds to strong liquor. And yet alcohol is controlled, taxed and legal.

    13. A driver's license is a "gateway" for drunk driving. Dating age is a gateway to premarital sex. Learning to write is a gateway to plagiarism.

In the end we need to fight drug abuse with education and good parenting. There is a reason that drunk driving, teenage pregnancy, and drug abuse has a positive correlation to inadequate parenting guidance and less education. In the end it comes to making well informed decisions that came from education - so Let's take the billions of dollars of tax payer money buying border fencing, weapons and helicopters from US defense contractors and put before and after pics of meth users on billboards, TV commercials, magazine ads, etc. That won't happen and the reason is that lobbiest, politicians, and US police budgets and US military contracts have a strong vested interest on our kids and future generations being addicts.

By the way - I've never met a pot head that has smoked daily for years and their speech, limited vocabulary and apparent IQ doesn't make them sound like a pot head. Our country has already been pussified and lard asses compared to just 20 years ago and I don't think it is in our best interest to be a stupid nation of potheads. Drinking may make people more out of control while intoxicated but drinkers don't sound like idiots the next day when they are sober.

    14. Back in the 1980's a very hopeful media campaign was started to help educate children to prevent future drug usage among them. The campaigns slogan was "Say No To Drugs" if anyone of you remembers? The campaign showed promising results through its short existence but unfortunately these results did not come about quickly and thoroughly enough for some politicians (Republicans I think), who decided instead to spend billions in the construction of new prisons to house drug dealers, suppliers and distributors catapulting the nations prison population and costs to maintain them while as we all know right now is not working to quell the nations appetite for consuming drugs. Now that time has passed another "quick fix" is once again being suggested - the legalization of drugs! In the long run drug addiction (especially with heavy drugs like cocaine and heroin), causes even bigger problems in society by making people more susceptible to broken marriages, lost jobs due to accidents, violence and not to mention the skyrocketing cost to treat an addiction like this paid for by us taxpayers! I definitely agree that education is our best source to stop all this drug usage and stop the violence all over the world cuz of them!

I still remember the video today and where I grew up wet was smoked all over Houston but I never touched a dip because if that video I saw. I totally agree that education leads to people making wiser choices and avoiding bad decisions. Educate so we don't have to incarcerate people that were influenced by peer pressure and not sound good drug education before kids get into the drug experimenting age.

I don't get the whole weed trafficking too bulky and smelly to easy to degrade unlike hard drugs.

What if Mayo narcd on them to distract the patrol and respond units while a dope load passed through. Trimming the fat if you will. Makes no sense keeping contacts for brick weed.

    1. That same 'ol story; every bust that makes the news is a distraction/decoy. Riiiight! Ive been hearing that angle on every bust since the late sixties. Dont you think that the cops would learn to patrol around when there is a possible diversion? It would be a wierd way to operate if cartels give up a significant quantity knowing that the bigger quantity could be busted too. I would take it at face value as a legitimate bust unless proven otherwise. The cartels may play a bit of chess but they are not chess masters.

    3. Wow. Um weed grows from the ground. For free. Or at least minimal cost. The green has always been good business. It takes a lot of money to move H, powder or Ice. And a lost shipment is disastrous. People selling weed all their lives who slowly move up to dope can lose just one shipment and be fucked . Start over on bud. Green is always good business. Ain't no money like dope money. Right big D?

  8. No if you legalize marijuana it will not have any positive effects for the economy and society as a whole. Remember, Colorado and Washington have legalized it under the state laws, its still illegal on the federal level. Any future president can overturn that and cause a mess in those states. Also, we have to have a vision and positive outlook for the future including the incoming generation, and in legalizing recreational marijuana it will slow the educational growth of todays children

    1. Colorado paid off its state debt in four months from pot revenue sales taxes, so that's a plus for those who worship at the alter of the almighty tax dollar and for Colorado's infrastructure, which would include education. Canada's Supreme Court cemented its medical marijuana laws, last week. Considering the dance at the border with bc bud from Canada, Washington State wisely legalised pot. Pot is no more a gateway drug than the earth is flat. Dr. Gabor Mate, a psychiatrist, and leading scholar on addiction, has an excellent book , titled " In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts." Read it. You will learn that hard core addiction isn't about the substance- be it drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex- the cause of addiction is childhood sexual abuse. Out of 30 years of treating addicts, Dr. Mate maintains he has never had a patient who had not suffered sexual abuse as a child. You want to protect children from drugs and destructive behaviors? Protect them from child predators with laws that have teeth.

--Combined US states debt is 5.1 trillion dollars.
--colorado received 6.3 billion dls from the federal government in 2012.
--According to recovery.org, under the american recovery and reinvestment act, Colorado received $4,698,530,000.00 in federal funding between Feb 2009 and June 2013....
I GUESS MOTA DOES NOT PAY FOR ANY COLORAO STATE DEBT AT ALL...

The cartels cannabis market in the states is dying, due to legalization in several states, and many more in the works.
Nobody in their right mind would stash over 90,000 pounds at the border unless it was being bottlenecked, and there was low market demand.

The new plaza power takes change of it's property because as usual, Sinaloa thinks they can run stuff through without paying Piso. Bottom line, greed cost the their weed money so the expense of doing business just went up. Weed pays all the salaries and police pay offs.
