Michoacan senators meet with Templarios

El Universal  (politica@eluniversal.com.mx) 11-20-2013 By Dalia Martinez and Ricardo Gomez, Translated by un vato for Borderland Beat

Senators confirmed for El Universal that this past October 17th, a group of individuals identified in military and Federal files as operators with the "Caballeros Templarios" went to the senate to talk "about security" with Michoacan legislators.

MORELIA, Michoacan.-- Two members of the Federal Senate confirmed for El Universal that a group of individuals plainly identified and known as party leaders, but also known to be working with the "Caballeros Templarios", went to the State Senate to talk about public safety with Michoacan legislators.

That meeting was held on October 17, without prior notice, and, among the senators called to the meeting was PRI senator Rocio Hernandez Gochi, general secretary of the Morelia city council from 2007 to 2011, and senators Omar Fayad, Raul Moron, and Luisa Maria Calderon (at left), among others.

It was precisely Senator Calderon who, in an interview granted to several local and national mass communications media, last Tuesday stated, "I don't know who allowed a group of Templarios into the Senate who asked to speak with Michoacan legislators about public safety in Michoacan.

Prior to the meeting with the senators, that day a group of 400 persons went to the senate chambers asking to meet with the senators to come to an agreement on public safety matters in the Tierra Caliente area.

A committee of 10 persons went into the Senate to meet with the legislators, and representing the group were: Juan Olmos Mantilla, president of the Association of Ejidos of Apatzingan; Tito Emigdio Fernandez Torres, Luis Padron Ramirez, Emma Gomez Vargas, Juan Avilez Ruiz, Ricardo Sanchez, Jose Filiberto Vejar, Armando Aleman Maciel and Rigoberto Pelaez, president of the Canacintra in Apatzingan, who introduced themselves as business and social leaders in Apatzingan.

They all lead an association called Asociacion Michoacanos, Paz y Dignidad (Michoacan Association, Peace and Dignity), which was organized in Apatzingan and is led by Tito Fernandez, who himself has been identified in military and Federal Police files as the political, business and pressure operative for the Templarios.

According to a military report, in social networks Tito Fernandez is linked with Nazario Moreno, "El Chayo" (above), who put him in charge of developing a criminal registry and of awarding the public works projects of all the city councils in the Tierra Caliente area to construction companies designated or controlled by Los Caballeros Templarios.

Military intelligence agencies state that this person has undertaken a media campaign against the Federal Police and the Mexican Army, trying to accuse them of alleged human rights violations.

"When we realized who they were, many of us senators opted to leave that so-called meeting, but from the start I want to tell you that those men got help from someone who let them come in without any restrictions into our offices," pointed out the PAN senator (Luisa Maria Calderon), who also criticized the fact that somebody had attempted to get them to sit down and negotiate (with the Templarios).

Another Michoacan legislator who was at the meeting and who asked that his name be withheld for personal safety reasons, confirmed that the individuals are known people "who are everywhere, and we know they are the political operatives for Los Templarios. They go everywhere with total freedom."

A local state representative also commented on the matter: "It's true. They are party leaders". And he added: "All political parties have their narcos, we have known that for some time."

Luisa Maria Calderon several weeks ago accused one of the sons of Governor Fausto Vallejo (left) of being a member of the Caballeros Templarios, which resulted in the governor threatening to sue her for slander.

Barbosa calls for an investigation

The Coordinator of PRD party in the Senate, Miguel Barbosa, stated that he will ask the High Chamber's authorities for a detailed report, to determine whether, in fact, members of the Los Caballeros Templarios cartel met with legislators in the Senate.

The president of the Public Safety Commission in the Senate, Omar Fayad (PRI), confirmed that on October 17, on instructions from the governing board, they met with a group protesting public safety issues. He said he did not know whether members of that criminal organization were in the group.

  1. Whats new? Politicians meet with organized crime all the time ... ok this time they admitted it, but really whats the fuzz?
'Politicians meet with comunitarios' THAT would be the 'man bites dog' headline we want to see.

  3. The governor is in on it,so is the former interim governor jesus Reyna, these criminals took over all the political offices in the state to assure the political power would protect the criminal elements, with great impunity, same thing all over Mexico, the politicians never listen to the people, only to their partners in crime.
The people know who the criminals are,let them do the finger pointing...

  6. Chivis i have a question what type of consequences do you believe there would be to sending money through western union to an aunt of mine ? that lives in la ruana

  7. it's pretty safe and done all the time, no one I know has ever had an issue with money sent western union. f she has a bank account you can send her pesos or USD by setting up what is called a "repetitive wire" which once set up get a passcode and a number for her and you can send via internet or phone

there are no consequences I do it all the time.. just tell ur family to be careful people are known to loiter around businesses like that and see who is pulling out money on a monthly basis so try switching it up every once in a while..for instance I use the bank one month, western union the next etc....

  11. This meeting took place in the National Senate building in Mexico City. Michoacán at the state level has only a Camara de Diputados. No Senado.

Also, from a couple days ago, an editorial calling the events in Michoacán a Civil War.

He has a point because, assuming the autodefensas are NOT tied to CJNG, they're fighting narcos supported by the state and federal governments. They're not fighting over drug routes or narco $. They're in rebellion against a narco state, supported by the federal government.

  12. I can't beleive the Mexican gov negotiates and accepts terms from these criminals. nogotiating with criminals is criminal and makes it seem like the gov recognized these organizations as legit. which is wrong!

  14. are there no good politicians, that acutall follow the rule of law in Mexico? if we send this report to all the top officials in mexico, will any one listen, will anyone do something? is Mexico a lost cause for the people?

  15. Best way to send money to Mexico, for the lowest cost is xoom.com . I've used it several times, and haven't had any problems with it. It's probably the fastest, and safest option.

  16. So when the populace has had enough and is fed up with CT and begin to organize and fight back, the cartels goes crying to the corrupt goverment to do something because the handwriting is on the wall: revolution is at hand and the cartels will lose everything so they are trying to put a stop to the impending and gathering storm. The bad guys just want the status quo. I cynically laugh at the title these thugs give their group regarding peace and security. What a crock of sh**!

  17. So a group of known gangsters go to meet with the state and walk out when finished? Seems that all could have been arrested on the spot.

  18. Broly or Antonio Olalde is my friend on facebook, idk if he regularly accepts strangers requests, but my cousin(who lives in Mich since 9-10 months ago) is his friend as well (which I found out when I seen his profile pic on my cousins friends list looking for our other cousins profile) so maybe that's why he accepted me or maybe he accept everyone. But hes alive as of last week when I msgd him about his ear and gave me a smartass response that it was nothing only a scratch and all this other bullshit, then gave me a short novel about how strong CT is and will always be and The "order" lasts forever, and valor pro mich and the community police are living on borrowed time and other nonsense. I was really surprised he accepted my request, maybe he thought I was a compadre cause my pics are full of me firing my AR and memory pics with my friends class 3 firearms lol. And no I'm not a narco nutt hugger, he's the only one I have and came across accidently and lets be honest, who wouldn't want a pretty much live feed into a sicarios life!

  19. Did they go in armed? It sounds like it by the way the man said they came in "without restriction" to me means without the normal protocol such as searches, and then they said "We tried to leave" implying they were forced to stay, with the amount of security they have at those buildings, without any visible threat if they really wanted to leave they could've just called security? I think this was a stupid move, sounds like la Puta let his ego exceed his wisdom, which seems to be happening a lot lately. They tied they tied the governments hands this time! If causing an armed rebellion wasn't enough for an action plan, this slap in the face definitely is. If no action is taken against the TEMPLARIOS, that is a definite sign that there is no hope in sight for Mexico. At least before this they could say that there was A corrupt official or other generic lies, but if KNOWN criminals feel comfortable waltzing into an open senate in broad daylight especially with the federal police and military deployments, its safe to say they were meeting with trusted friends. I'm honestly surprised they didn't cut loose Z-40 when he gave them his farmer story. Please at least take down a chunk of mid-low levelers and a few high rankers, at least thin them out so the communitarios can move in to do the real work.

  20. Thank you chivis. At work i deal with western union a lot but I was curious as to what the whole economical situation of la Ruana & tepaltepec are. Are the businesses functioning regularly now as before February 24th of this year so sending money would be possible to pull out from a local business or are these money transfers only possible in other nearby cities ? I hope it's not a dumb question I'm just a bit curious.

  21. So the government is meeting, on a serious level, with people with names like Tuti, really? You're screwed amigos, why waste your time voting?

    ReplyDelete
  22. 12:48 not a dumb question at all. the best situation is if she can open a bank account at bancomer or banorte. and if you can wire as I said...that is the quickest and safest. I look at the Xoom website the other reader speaks of and it looks pretty good, though I have not used it.

Sounds like your aunt relies on your help so I would advise just try it and see if you have issues. Her area is really lacking in food and supplies because of Templarios, good luck, and she is a lucky lady to have such a thoughtful nephew. I also send money to my Tia. each month. without it she will not by her mediations. She is 86 years old...but we use bank to bank repetitive wire transfers.

    Paz
