Armando “EL Gordo” Villarreal Pleads Guilty in San Diego Federal Court

Borderland Beat
The Director of the FBI in San Diego, Daphne Hearn said that Fernando Sanchez Arellano's criminal organization remains "without teeth," after one of its lieutenants was found guilty in federal court. The DEA already pronounced AFO dead, in an article by  K. Mennem, May 29, 2013 in the San Diego Reader.

Most consider Tijuana Cartel, AFO, FSO the same TCO.  Zeta Weekly described Villarreal as partnered with of the Arellano Felix Cartel in an article,May 28, 2012, describing his charges as, "members and associates of a group known as Fernando Sanchez Organization, or Fernando Sanchez Organization "-identified by the acronym FSO in English, whose members perform, among other things, murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, kidnapping , conspiracy to kidnap, attempted robbery with illegal deprivation of liberty, conspiracy to commit theft, attempted theft, importation of controlled substances into the United States from Mexico, conspiracy to import controlled substances into the United States from Mexico, distribution of substances controlled money laundering and conspiracy to launder money ... Everything in the Southern District of California, between November 2008 and July 20, 2010 "

Armando "El Gordo" Villarreal, 35 years old, was the right arm of Sánchez Arellano,  "El Ingeniero." He could receive a sentence of 30 years in prison (previously he faced a life sentence) for leading a criminal organization with international ties (RICO for its acronym in English).
Villarreal agreed in court, to having committed and ordered murders, kidnappings, collecting plaza fees from rival drug traffickers, bribing authorities, intimidating citizens and even journalists, in addition to dealing with large quantities of drugs into the United States.

"El Gordo", the nephew of one of the famous Arellano Felix brothers, the criminal group that operated in Tijuana and parts of San Diego, in charge of a complex network of communication where corrupt police officers at all levels, passed  on privileged information shared with American authorities.

Villarreal Heredia was arrested as part of a federal operation in July 2011, which  42 people, among them police officers municipal and Ministerial, including the former manager of international liaison of the Attorney General of Justice of lower California (PGJE), Jesús Quiñónez, who was sentenced to eight years in prison.
"This admission of guilt, - as well as the other 39 people related to this case-, left the Organization of Fernando Sánchez Arellano stark," said the District Attorney Laura Duffy, who added that "this case has created a wall of protection around San Diego, preventing the violence caused by this cartel from spreading to other communities on this side of the border."
So far, 40 of the 42 defendants have pleaded guilty to U.S. authorities, while the rest remain fugitives from justice.

The Director of the FBI in San Diego, Daphne Hearn, said she felt satisfied after the verdict, the result of the cooperation between agencies from both sides of the border.

"This case demonstrates that the DEA and our other partners are dedicated to impart justice, so we will continue to work to banish these violent criminal organizations in our communities," he added.

Armando Villarreal Heredia is the brother of the Lieutenant Arturo Villarreal Heredia, alias "El Nalgón", arrested in 2006 along with Francisco Javier "El Tigrillo" Arellano Felix when they traveled in a yacht off the coast of Baja California Sur.

"El Gordo", who was arrested in Sonora and extradited to the United States, will be sentenced on December 16 before Judge William Hayes in San Diego.

    1. Dear 9:24 and Havana We can only pray he gets a long stay at a supermax. Given so many have gotten sweet deals for giving out info.:or paid millions to get better sentences. I still don't understand why killers like him don't get murder charges added. Could it be the DEA has wasted so much money trying to catch "contract" killers/drug dealers they don't have enough money to add murder charges? By the way, those DEA agents should be fired foe the fiasco with those guys. Thank God for morons, most people would know it was a set up. Greed makes people stupido. Another great post. Be sure to let us know the outcome. Hope Chivis is well. Thanks to all. Peace, Texas Grandma.

It seems AFO guys are pretty stand up. Info to the feds on whereabouts of Ingeniero or others close to him could've maybe got either of those 2 WP or substantially lightened and not that life down to 30 years that aint for shit important that's basically life anyway.... Point is, neither guy flipped Ingeniero has loyal men. Both just stood up and took 30, that's some shit. Yeah AFO is still operational but Sinaloa is in TJ and doing as it pleases. Hear they pay tax but don't believe it, no fuckin' way...

  15. Another stupid verdict! He was replaced the day he was arrested (years ago) and the drug business is still booming. His replacement will be taken down in a year or two and sentenced a few years after and the drug business will continue to boom. During all this time money is spent, blood is spilled and resources vasted.
My suggestion: in a free country we should let those who want drugs get drugs and not burden everybody else by the hideous side-effects of drugs remaining illegal.
AND YES drug consumption is marketed very effectively by the drug dealers because it is VERY profitable (hence keeping consumption high)
AND YES the side effects of inpurities in illegal (but not in legal) drugs are devastating
AND YES the criminal activity associated with raising cash for the drug consumption affects the innocent in our society
AND YES legalization is not a magic bullet, but it is by far better than the current bull shit war on drugs
AND YES the corrupting effect on society of this illegal trade destroys the fabric of every soceity touched by it (remember: the same drugs passing through Mex passes through the US and our cops are not more stupid or less trained and equipped than the Mexicans)

Conclusion: the best drug policy is one where there is no business model in the illegality.

  16. @September 30, 2013 at 2:39 PM : you are sooo rite. The drug business is like the gold rush in Klondike. The people who made the real money was not the ones who made the dirty work, but those supplying them.

Hank-Rohn is an excellent example of such a figure/institution. These characters are also the roadblocks to any meaningful reform of the political system and policy.

Note: this is not just the case in Mex but anywhere in the world (including here) just think of HSBC and Wachovia's multi billion money laundering (where NOBODY was criminally charged).

Now he faces 30 yrs. because of God know what kind or how many helpful tips, secrets or fibs he may have imparted to the government. The verdict will be December 16 in San Diego. And thanks to everyone for your comments. You guys and smart and funny. I used to cringe at the comments and never dared look. Now, sometimes I almost die laughing at some of you 'wise acres.' 24. What is krokodil?

Krokodil is a homemade drug. It combines codeine, lighter fluids, gasoline, paint thinner, alcohol, and other ingredients, Carreno and LoVecchio say.

When and where did it become popular?

Krokodil was first used in Russia in 2003, according to the Journal of Addictive Diseases.

LoVecchio suspects krokodil took off in Russia because it was difficult to smuggle in heroin. Its use spread quickly across the country.

    How is it used?

Users inject the drug because it delivers a faster high than in tablet form, LoVecchio says. "If the onset [of effects] was an hour or 2 for pill form, it could be within 5 to 10 minutes if you shoot it IV."

What are the effects and side effects?

The drug may be 10 times cheaper than heroin, LoVecchio says. For less money, it is said to give a heroin-like effect of euphoria -- but at a price.

It eats the user from the inside out, he says, rotting the flesh and leaving bone and muscle tissue exposed. The skin takes on a scaly, green appearance, earning its name of krokodil, Russian for "crocodile."

"A common reason for death is the loss of skin," LoVecchio says. He says that users can die of infection and gangrene. The drug also destroys the blood vessels it’s injected into, causing blockages.

Regular users in Russia often die within 2 years of starting krokodil, he says
