Torreón: Drug Rehab Center Attacked

Borderland Beat

Authorities report that a group of gunmen attacked a rehabilitation center in the Coahuila city of  Torreón, leaving one dead and three injured.

The Laguna delegation of the Attorney General of the State said that about 7:45 am on Monday, a group of armed men burst into “Oasis” the rehabilitation center for addiction, located on Rodríguez Triana Boulevard, in the colonia “las Julitetas”.

The gunmen opened fire on the patients, subsequently leaving one dead, an unidentified person, about 30 years old, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds in his chest.

The three injured were identified with names: Jose Mena Eleno Alvarado, 58, who is treated at a local hospital for gunshot wounds to the abdomen and chest, Carlos Alvarado Mena, 39, injured by a bullet in the knee and Pedro Rivas Palacios, 31, who was wounded in the left side of the torso..

Just last June, gunmen killed eleven people in the Torreón center called " “Tu Vida Sobre La Roca AC”.

"Can someone please tell me why they attack the rehab centers"
La Linea boss,El Diego, ordered the same kind of thing. In his deposition when he was arrested he said that is where rival crews can be safe housed, going out and heating shit up and goin back,or where certain people are, they can also be recruited. He also admitted that some are not aligned with anyone, just wrong place, wrong time.As if they care who they kill?As a prick above said"[Why should we be worried about Mexican junkies]when we have enough here in the US"basically what their thinking is?

  12. Rehabs are targeted specifically because they may contain former cartel members, who have decided to leave the sicario life behind or get out of the game altogether. Not an easy thing to do (leave the drug business) because those individuals pose a threat to the cartels because of the knowledge they possess or money they owe, etc..or they are still targeted by rival cartels members, who they may have wronged! Either way...a rehab facility is the last place you want to hide out at because there is zero protection/security and "talking" about "your problems" is part of the program.

  13. @01/04 11:04AM,
Dude are you serious? Your comment makes zero sense..bro! By your logic...cartels kill addicts at rehab centers because they don't want to lose customers? Correct me if I'm wrong but the dead cant purchase or use drugs...hence the cartels still lose customers...lol.

Sicarios take days off there. They get sober for a while and back to work!

  15. It's not the cartels doing this. Right-wing death squads are cleaning up the "problems" that fester petty crime. Same thing occurred in Juarez, remember?

  16. @2:16pm yeah but it reminds the addicts and cartel members its not safe to be in rehabs....it sends a strong message"u go to rehab...u fkn die" im guessing it would be the Zetas enemy's that did the hit(CDS or CDG).but the other feller could be right, may have been the Authority's in disguise.

  20. Treatment centers are attacked because they fear recovered addicts will snitch. Many of the addicts are mules and packagers out of necessity. They have access to info. Not all, but some. Terrorism to keep any other employees in line as well. And it's just fun for the killers. Unguarded and helpless, like setting stray dogs on fire.

  25. What is the purpose? It's just a rehabilitation center! This is not a strategically important object! Why are they doing that? It's outrageous! With this you need to do something ......
