Mexican President Felipe Calderon named Maribel Cervantes Guerrero as the new
commander of the Federal Police, tasking her with directing government strategy
against crime nationwide, an official communique said.
The federal Public Safety Secretariat said that Cervantes, the first woman to head the Federal Police, has been “trained by leading security agencies in matters of crime data and criminal-operations analysis, intelligence, strategic planning, anti-terrorism, investigations and policing techniques in Spain, Israel and the United States.
Cervantes was employed as head of the intelligence division of the Federal Police and was responsible for establishing ties of cooperation, training and exchanging intelligence with the American Police Community, or Ameripol, and with the European Police Office, or Europol.
“She has wide experience in the fields of organized crime, national security, intelligence, international terrorism, armed groups and kidnapping,” the secretariat said Friday.
According to the agency, the work of Cervantes, 41, a native of Hidalgo state, has been praised internationally.
Among other distinctions, she was decorated in 2006 with Spain’s White Emblem Military Merit Cross, and in 2011 with the Obelisk Intelligence Badge, the highest honor of Colombia’s Police Intelligence Board.
Cervantes replaces Facundo Rosas, who has been designated the Public Safety Secretariat’s undersecretary for prevention, linkage and human rights.
Calderon gave the Federal Police and the army the lead role in battling violent drug cartels shortly after taking office in December 2006.
But despite the nationwide deployment of tens of thousands federal forces, drug-related homicides have skyrocketed in recent years.

Masota....is she single??
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see another woman as a high ranking member of the police force in Mexico, somehow I feel women are not as corrupted as men. I also think Mexico is ready to have a female president.
ReplyDeleteI give her a month before she gets wacked
DeleteThis Appointment is a joke! Most Mexican men, yes I fucking said MOST, don't respect women! I hope she's a margret thatcher type iron fist bitch, it's the only way shell keep get her respect!
DeleteHope Golda Meir. Marge Thatcher was a lightweight compared to her.
DeleteHopefully, just hopefully she sets an example for all men and women in mexico....good work commander
ReplyDeleteSo she is a native of Hidalgo??? I don't think this is good news at all
ReplyDeleteAre you thinking what I'm thinking?.....Zetas! She probably is a classmate of Lazcano.
DeleteYea..okay..good luck!
ReplyDeleteHas she picked out a nice burial spot and a gloss yellow and pink casket yet? She should splurge and add some tassels and a nice rooster on it so she fits in with the boys. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm betting sooner or later we will see the story of her car and family sprayed with bullets. Sad state of affairs. Good luck. Your going to need it.
ReplyDeleteAhi PA Q SEPAN QUE ESTA JEFA ES DE HIDALGO AL IGUAL QUE EL JEFEZ DE LOS ZETAZ HERIBERTO LAZZZCANO LAZZZCANO. POGANSE AL TIRO!!
ReplyDeleteSo, she and Lazcano are from the same state?
ReplyDeleteI don't give a fuck if Lazcano was born on the same state she was, for sure she is not sucking on Lazcaca Lazcano's dick, most likely you are the one sucking on Lazcano's dick.
Machismo will not allow this appointment. She will be undermined and sabotaged with her every move and Calderon lost any respect the federal police may have had for him. That appointment was a slap in the face to every male federal agent because of the Machismo culture of Mexico. Is she good, does she deserve it? I don't know. But the federal police are as dirty as they come, they always have been. She has her plate full and survival should be her first priority. I can just hear the office talk and laughter now and the laughter at outgoing Calderon. They are ready for the war to stop so they can get back to protecting drug runs and taking bribes. Damn federallies always had four inch long teeth, dirty and mean as hell. Maribel got thrown to the wolves. A second thought, I wonder if she pissed the wrong people off so they gave her the power she "thinks" she deserved. Has the US ever appointed a women to head any of their male dominated police agencies?
ReplyDeleteDoes Janet Reno count?
ReplyDeleteGood call... I promIse there are female police chiefs as well. Plenty.
DeleteFor all you pessimists look at this womans background in the places she has been trained and recieved honors in. Its about time there is change I feel we need to give women a chance in Mexico this woman might have more balls than all the other corrupt federal police. And shit we have nothing to lose down here in Mexico by having a Woman in charge.
ReplyDeleteI agree. A woman in power might give a position a softer more trust worthy start that it needs from it's hard line corrupt reputation. We have to start trusting them if they are indeed TRYING to get better. Trust has to start at some point.
DeletePeace
Her whole background is in a classroom or office. Thats it. They give medals these days just for participating.
DeleteShe should begin by arranging the disappearances of several of her top people. Then proceed to torture/kill any others that look sideways at her.
ReplyDeleteLeyazola in Juarez should be her good friend. He knows how to deal with the crooks - police and otherwise.
Que viva Los narcos purro padelante
ReplyDeleteno manches payaso
DeleteI would guess there is interest in her safety by many angecys from many countries. I am sure she isnot stupid to think she can ever be safe for years to come or at least as long as she has this job.
ReplyDeleteCould this be another Debora ??
ReplyDelete@February 13, 2012 9:09 PM
ReplyDeleteI believe she really is going to do that!
I hope I am wrong about this but I do not see how this woman can be respected in a country where the culture of machismo rules.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you that police women in the US are not as well respected as their male counterparts, especially and more importantly in positions of authority. From this article she has not been on the ground level doing the fighting. Her background appears to be administrative and analytical. The rank and file does not care that she got an award from some obscure Spanish organization. While women have a role in law enforcement to a certain degree, there is a silent consensus in law enforcement and the military that , a woman has no business in a man's business. The cartels will assume that the law has been castrated.
Sorry to throw cold water on this but I don't see it as a positive at all. I hope she proves me wrong.
Z3 and el kilo lived in deplorable conditions without running water or toilets.
ReplyDeleteApparently lazcano and trevino are doing the same to avoid capture by authorities or rival cartels. Their money is an illusion. Thay have led their cartel into hell.
Univision the spanish network channel in the US ran a story about this yesterday, the way these guys live is is crazy, but then again this cartel is nothing more than bandits and street junkies far from being real traffickers like some of the other cartels. People who don't believe this are in for a rude awakening because there beloved zetas will crumble sooner rather than later, with the capture or assasination of its too leaders the chips will fall fast.
DeleteJaja they caught kilo under the bed crying
DeleteShe seems more than qualified.
ReplyDeleteI wish her luck with this massive task she has been given.
MEXICO ,YOU IS FUCKED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.
ReplyDeleteALL I SEE IN THESE COMMENTS ABOUT HER APPOINTMENT ARE NEGATIVE.lETS FACE IT,MEXICAN MEN ARE REALLY DOING THEMSELVES PROUD,FOR THEIR WOMEN.MEXICAN MEN HAVE DONE SHIT,MAYBE ITS TIME TO LET A WOMAN TRY HER HAND,BUT SHE MAY NOT GET THE CHANCE CAUSE OF MACHISMO,THE SAME MACHISMO THAT KILLS WOMEN,CHILDREN,OLD MEN.YOUNG LADY I FOR ONE HOPE YOU PROVE THESE FUCKIN CLOWN ASS DUDES WRONG,YOU KNOW THE ONES,WITH THE ARs.
MEXICO,WHAT A JOKE.
All her background is in training classroom or an office. Medals dont mean anything.
