Ex-Police Chief Gets 10 Years for Helping Mexican Traffickers

A former Federal Police regional security coordinator has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for providing assistance to the Sinaloa drug cartel, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office said.

Javier Herrera Valles was given the prison time, a fine and banned from holding any public office by a court in the state of Nayarit, the AG’s office said.

Herrera Valles provided assistance to drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” (Shorty) Guzman’s Sinaloa cartel, the AG’s office said.

“The investigation established that Herrera Valles worked with the Sinaloa cartel, taking advantage of his role as a public servant,” the AG’s office said.

Herrera Valles, who had been a law enforcement officer for more than 30 years, provided protection to drug traffickers in Tamaulipas while serving as regional chief in the northeastern border state, where the powerful Gulf cartel operates.

Drug traffickers paid Herrera Valles $70,000 a month for his services, the AG’s office said.

Herrera Valles is also accused of having run his own criminal activities in the southern state of Guerrero, where he was in charge of numerous operations.

The Sinaloa organization, sometimes referred to by officials as the Pacific cartel, is the oldest drug cartel in Mexico and Guzman, considered extremely violent, is one of the most-wanted criminals in Mexico and the United States, where the Drug Enforcement Administration is offering a reward of $5 million for him.

  2. What are the odds he even serves a day? What a mockery. I'll believe Mexico is serious when I read that a guy like this got a bullet in the head from a paramilitary death squad and his body was thrown in a ditch.

  4. Yet Mexico wonders why they are in such a terrible position with these cartels. They give a PUBLIC OFFICIAL WHO IS COMPLICIT 10 years only?!! Sorry folks, but your justice system is a f'ing joke.

I wonder how that 10 year sentence sits with the multiple families that were affected by this a$$holes behavior.

You - as a country - should be ashamed of your government.

  5. @10:32 I want to make it clear lately all Mexicans have been labeled as Killers, savages,Phycos, extremely violent, just because of a small percentage that eventhough it might lack on numbers compared to all the hardworking Mexicans,it makes up with an over the top type of Violence that is,unpronounsable.

Not all Mexican are like that.

Im extremely embarrased, dissapointed in our goverment as well.

Its hard for an average honest citizen in Mexico to speak up,"Oooh but Mexicans are fucking stupid why dont they fight and take their Country back,as many United States citizens see it or throughout the whole world,I just definately have to point out, that its easier said than done.

  7. @12/30/11-10:32AM. The USA justice system is a fucking joke! Can you tell me how much time President Richard Nixon's got for the Watergate scandal? Or his homosexual relationship with banker Charles(Bebe) Rebozo when they were questioned by CIA for drug money laundering? President Bill Clinton sold all the West Coast Oil Reserves, did he get time in prison? George W Bush illegally sold billions of dollars worth of weapons to the Taliban fighters, did he get time in prison? Answer to this questions is NO! And they were the US Presidents. Want me to continue? Engage your brain before your mouth, or keyboard. The American Justice System is ALSO a FUCKING JOKE!
