Suspect in U.S. Agent's Shooting Detained

 By the CNN Wire Staff

A suspect in the shooting death of a U.S. immigration agent in Mexico was detained by the Mexican military Wednesday, the country's Defense Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry described the man as "probably responsible" for the February 15 ambush on a highway in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. More details would be made available later, the statement said.

U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata was killed in the incident, and fellow agent Victor Avila was wounded.

A funeral for Zapata was held Tuesday, where top U.S. officials spoke and vowed justice for his killers.

According to U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who said he was briefed by immigration authorities, the pair had been traveling to Mexico City when two vehicles bracketed them and ran them off the road.

Despite the fact that the two agents identified themselves as diplomats, people believed to belong to the Zetas drug cartel opened fire.

It was the first time in 25 years that a U.S. law enforcement agent was killed while on duty in Mexico.

More to come, , ,

  2. seriously? there are thousands of Zetas in mexico, hes probably not the person who they're looking for who ever was detained was probably ordered by his boss and promised to be taken out of jail in a couple of days. They probably just did this to "calm" the situation down and make it look like they are taking control of the situation.

  3. How do they know he's the one who pulled the trigger...either way I don't care because it's one less scum on the street, but I wonder if he'll be released.....

  4. reading between the lines...they are saying "probable connection".

that means any zeta leader or even just a scapegoat. I saw where the consensus is that if it is a leader it is most likely Pinche Mamito.

  5. Right wrong or in between its interesting to see what appears to be a urgent action on the part of Mexican Authority, its a good sign at least they are off their lazy ass.

  8. Another good episode of Calderon's "NOVELA". The man can't control his own government much less the crime plague. What will he do next? He should broadcast the trial...So we can all get a good look at the workings of the Mexican Judicial System and get some good laughs.

Garcia Luna and The CORRUPT half of his government are "probably responsible" for some of the country's problems. Shouldn't they be detained...

  9. Im beginning to think that the only way to help Mexico since the u.s. isnt doing shit.
is to help do a "Limpia" of Dope dealers and Dope users with Narcomensajes and the whole bit.
then maybe the insatiable appetite for drugs can be lessened.

  10. The Narco blogs are speculating Z 40 was captured BUT I have yet to see any legitimate reports about it.

  11. EL 40 HAS SOLDADOS WORKING FOR THEM IN TAMPS & NUEVO LEON...I DOUBT HE WAS CAPTURED

  12. The death of z40 would be huge, I could see them taking their time to set up a perfect press confrence.

  13. According to a just released post in Milenio, it is not A suspect, but several Zetas that were detained in an military operation in San Luis Potosi.

The detainees are being transferred to DF for declarations.

So....from what this says, the ICE agents killer (s) has nothing to do with the alleged Zeta leader being killed in Sierra Ventana, Mty, NL yesterday....????

  14. President Felipe Calderon tweeted 45 minutes ago:

"El Ejército Mexicano atrapó al principal sospechoso del homicidio del agente americano Jaime Zapata. También a integrantes de su banda."

The Mexican Army detained the principal suspect in the homicide of American agent Jaime Zapata. Also members of his gang.

  15. What garbage this is.....they cant ever seem to find these guys even when they travel in convoys 30 vehicle deep, but when they want to make a point they conveniently round up the leaders no prob, this lets me know that they know more than they pretend to and that if they really wanted to they could end the majority of these cartel slaughters...

  16. Like how usa intervenes when it happpens to one of there own and are way too busy killing people half way across the world when these people deserve it more

It's not as simple as it sounds. Convoys only travel in areas that are "cleared" as secure by lookouts "halcones". When they run into the military they are usually killed but it doesn't happen too often. Al-queida also travels in convoys in u.s controlled areas of afganistan, some slip through, its just the way it is.

  19. it is pretty clear in the official press release they announce having in custody the person likely/probable responsible for the death of ICE agent of the US...how they going to dance around this? I saw the tweet from Calderon also...Jeeze this is so Mexico...no one ever on the same damn page.

  22. Hispanically Speaking News had this article about NORTHCOM inside Mexico way back in October last year...

The Military Command Behind Mexico’s Violent Drug War

    http://www.hispanicallyspeakingnews.com/hsn-network/details/the-military-command-behind-mexicos-violent-drug-war/

'Despite the fact that the two agents identified themselves as diplomats, people believed to belong to the Zetas drug cartel opened fire.'

The two US agents lied then. They weren't exactly 'diplomats' but were US military police instead .

  23. WHY ALL THE SECRECY ON WHO THEY CAUGHT, WHY DONT THEY JUST SAY INSTEAD OF THIS SHELL GAME..oh, and thanks to the poster about convoys..

Zeta leader of a CELL in SLP.

  27. Can't people just wait? God they will be announcing it tonight, have patience people. The reason they withheld the name is to create all this speculation and to have everyone talking. Just wait and see. Is that too hard?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey Anonymous 7:44. They already announced it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. El who? We never heard of this low level car washer..thats the big catch? And I suppose his wife was manning the roadblock too..

    ReplyDelete
  30. hey everyone they just caught "el pinion" or something like that

    ReplyDelete
  31. Actually piolin was mentioned during the week by Joaquin Lopez dorriga. I hope he rats out 40 and lazcano.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Slip through your ass
Can you come up with a good reason on why the US military can't kill all alquieda operatives in afganistan with all those "eyes in the sky". You must play too much black ops. As i said before it not that easy, couch commando.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He probably was manning the roadblock. You think Mamito is gonna be out there manning roadblocks? Isn't he in charge of the new Zeta training "academy", and the state of Coahuila or is that all 42 now? He may have given the order or the ok to shoot the ICE agents but I doubt he was even in the same estado. Even if it was an "accident" I hope authorities do not relent. I hope they still hold the organization culpable as a whole and aggressively pursue Mamito and Z-40 and Lazca and all those other scumbags. The blame does not end with some ugly ass SLP cell leader and his half-retarded gang of idiots. Those dumbasses are cannon fodder for Zeta leadership, totally expendable. That's what those brainless goons are there for; to get caught and get killed while the real bosses kick back on a ranch somewhere in Coahuila drinking Buchana with teenage senoritas stopping occasionally to bark orders into their two-ways.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm not surprised it was a lower ranking zeta who was part of this, any older higher ranking zeta would have thought that by killing the agents he would have dug his own grave.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I doubt Piolin even knows where Lazcano and 40 is. Well maybe 40.

  36. So how long has the US government been coordinating with Mexican politicians in intervening with its own militarily and policing affairs inside Mexico contrary to US law itself, which prohibits intervention into the affairs of other nations in such clandestine manner?

'It was the first time in 25 years that a U.S. law enforcement agent was killed while on duty in Mexico.'

It turns out that the US government back then worked with the single party PRI dictatorship, too, with its US past 'drug war' efforts, and not just with current PAN head ratero, Calderon.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrique_Camarena

And this certainly was not the beginning of US clandestine and semi clandestine operations inside Mexico. Twenty five years of drug war PLUS???? What has it achieved? It's 'achieved' the mess Mexico has now.

Oh man, now that shit was funny....I was lmao haha...with those words "couch commando"....hahahaha but I completely agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Couch commando says-I know they can't catch every one in a day, and yes the dto's have some gear allowing them to slide past the "radar" but 30 or even 10 vehicles of the four door truck type traveling together should be fairly visible from miles away when airborne. But your point is taken, maybe they do need missle strikes down there- done by mexican aircraft of course. As for my computer games, they don't get played much anymore, all the action I need is in my backyard.
