If they wouldn't have reported this, would it have just continued?!!!

Then the cartels threatened the media that cartel videos must be aired in exchange for the captives lives. Journalist Alejandro Hernandez barely escaped with his life and is seeking asylum in the US.

"Hours after the rescue, Mexican government officials presented the freed journalists at a Mexico City press conference and linked their attackers to Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman Loera — an action that Hernandez’ lawyer said endangered Hernandez’ life and prompted him to flee to the states... The kidnappers remain at large." Is this a suprise?

"It really represents a historical escalation when the cartels are now attacking the national media — reporters have been kidnapped and held hostage from a national chain,” Spector, Hernandez's attorney in US said. “They had controlled (reporters) locally and they felt empowered that if they could control local media, the next logical step was to control the national media.”

“In certain parts of the country, investigative journalism is becoming extinct and even daily reporting on crime is becoming impossible...”

Do the media outlets and sponsors of the Mexico Initiative think that they will persuade the cartels to cease the violence against journalists and others by institutionalizing this initiative? Will this make investigative reporting all but obselete like investigative policing?

credit given: Houston Chronicle: lise.olsen@chron.comKari Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01301038700247894004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195137745759962560.post-39350793372683340202011-03-29T17:35:17.083-06:002011-03-29T17:35:17.083-06:00Mexico has newspapers have the front page is alwa...Mexico has newspapers have the front page is always a guy beheaded or a women shot up with an ak... They already "censor" American newspapers by not putting those horrible pics up. I have lived in Mexico and NYC.. never saw a gruesome pic of someone chopped up in the daily news... But in Mexico it's common to see some rotten.com shit on the front page. I must agree that this desensitizes people and there's just no need for it. report the story, I can do without the images.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195137745759962560.post-70445068137959555872011-03-29T13:51:53.289-06:002011-03-29T13:51:53.289-06:00You stupid a** Americans don't even know what ...You stupid a** Americans don't even know what you are talking about haha....you call us "animals" and calling this "censorship" but how many of you even live here? Why be so gruesome? Something with so much potential is ruined by acting like animals, sickos, psychos! To bring children into it...to decapitate, mutilate and leave it there for all to see and obviously a lot of time is put into many of the 'leavings.' This is NOT an intelligent way of winning this war against drugs! How many more hearts would you win if you did it with intention, class and thought. Instead it is crazy, out of control, very sick minded people terrorizing innocent people...They like this...they are enjoying this! I cant help but think they are proud of what they have done to these people. Even if drugs were ERADICATED these people would continue! It is worse than Saddam Hussein! I wish I could help. I am just sick over it all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195137745759962560.post-38247140146487561982011-03-29T09:31:49.805-06:002011-03-29T09:31:49.805-06:00Man some of you all are DENSE....you're simply...Man some of you all are DENSE....you're simply missing the point, yet again. Mexicans are ANIMALS they are treating one another like dirty filthy animals, beasts in the wild, and what does the media do PLASTER IT ON THE FRONT PAGES for all the other animals to see including little future animals, THE CHILDREN, who see and hear of these terrible stories, and from an early age see these HEINOUS ACTS as something no more illicit that seeing a normal afternoon football game.

Here's a word for all you animals to read up on.

************************************************

DESENSITIZE

transitive verb

1
: to make (a sensitized or hypersensitive individual) INSENSITIVE or NON-REACTIVE to a SENSITIZING AGENT (like ohh I don't know skinning someones head and face and leaving it on a bus stop or HANGING HEADLESS ARMLESS TORSOS from bridges yeah)

2
: to make emotionally insensitive or callous; specifically : to extinguish an emotional response (as of fear, anxiety, or guilt) to stimuli that formerly induced it)
************************************************

Your entire public has been say it with me.....DESENSITIZED........to the horrific acts of violence that are taking place all around you. You call it 'CENSORSHIP" but brighter minds than yours see it as a way of preserving the little dignity your hopeless Country is clinging to. Unless living and treating one another like animals is all you desire for you and more importantly your children then continue to seek out this fight this so called CENSORSHIP, but know you will keeping your collective heads in the toilet in doing so.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195137745759962560.post-15585171619304020422011-03-28T21:03:27.430-06:002011-03-28T21:03:27.430-06:00El Chapo is one step ahead of the game, AGAIN! The...El Chapo is one step ahead of the game, AGAIN! The more the truth is revelaed, the closer the US gets to becoming involved. What better plan than to hide it all under the rug, bring back the tourists dollars and quietly eradicate the enemies so that things can go back to normal. Back to when no one knew who he was, who he killed and who he paid. Back to 2001 when the drugs flowed, the dissidents disappeared and everybody from the local villager to the top elite was getting paid. I cannot recall a moment in history when censorship brought about change for the better.
