SEMAR Seizes Shrimp Boat with 10 Tons of Fuel & Meth off Shores of Mazatlán, Sinaloa

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

The Secretary of the Navy (Semar) intercepted a shrimp vessel named "Tapilu III", which was carrying a considerable shipment of methamphetamine, as well as two vessels carrying more than 10,000 liters of fuel, in the Pacific near Mazatlán; while 12 people were arrested.

The undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja announced this Thursday during the morning press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that the seizure was carried out between November 9 and 10, as part of the operations at sea to detect the trafficking of illicit substances.

The ship was carrying potentially tons of drugs in its holds and, after being cornered, the criminals submerged the boat into the sea, managing to recover only 440 kilograms of methamphetamine, said Mejía Berdeja. "When they were detained, they submerged the boat, once the materials were collected, 440 kilograms could be rescued."

Two other vessels were seized and had 10,600 liters of fuel in their possession.

These are vessels 60, 61, and 62 insured so far in 2022. The detainees and the seized material were concentrated in Mazatlán, to be made available to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR).

  7. That cracks me up because I lived in Mazatlan from 2003 to 2016 and realized that all the “respectable” monied people in Mazatlan other than the Coppel family made their money in shrimping or tuna fishing (Mazatun).

Interestingly the Coppel family made their money as the first high interest credit card issuer throughout Mexico…..but where’d they get the cash to fund the consumers CC debt, and why was a finance company started in back then a much smaller city of fisherman and a couple hotels?? Hmmmm; let me think about this…

    1. 08:18 you mean CDS only works in fentanyl and meth, they can not afford to buy cocaine and the Colombian Cartels don’t like them at all.

  11. I personally think a major driving force behind violence is all this whipped up dope they sell now. Especially the meth. Long term effects are psychosis, paranoia and violence. Hyper violence. Cause it’s been traffickers for decades it’s only since the late 90s , early 2000s when the level of violence gets ramped up like it is now. Now people look at Mexicans like they did Colombians back in the 80s. With fear and distrust.
