San Diego, California: Smugglers Taped Drugs To Bottom Of Woman's Car Using Her As 'Blind' Drug Mule

Woman unknowingly smuggles drugs across border

A woman says she unknowingly smuggled drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border. She said she saw smoke coming from the back of her car, so she took it to the shop. That's when they found two bags of drugs and a tracking device.

A woman who dropped into a San Diego auto shop after noticing smoke coming out of her car got quite the surprise after an inspection revealed a tracking device and two large bundles of illegal drugs taped to the undercarriage.

According to officials, the woman was on the freeway when she saw smoke coming from the back of her car. That's when she drove downtown to a Jiffy Lube for a vehicle inspection.

Mechanics there went underneath her car and discovered the two large bundles of illegal narcotics wrapped in plastic and taped to the bottom. One of the bundles had white powder spilling from it. There was also a tracking device attacked to the car, officials said.

San Diego's Bomb and Arson Squad responded to safely remove the bundles from the car.

According to officials, drug smugglers often get their products across the border by attaching the drugs to unknowing victims in Mexico, who then unknowingly take the drugs across the border. The smugglers then follow the tracking device and recover the narcotics when no one is watching, officials added.

  1. They the smugglers where saving money on paying a mule. Good thing there was a jiffy lube to check it out. Word to the wise, don't tape drugs along side of the hot exhaust pipe.

    1. It’s not about saving $ on the mule, it’s about the driver won’t act nervous driving though a checkpoint because they have no idea the drugs are attached to the car. I’ve read about people ending up in prison from Mexico because they didn’t know drugs were in their car

    2. 11:41 they would have had to pay a mule, if it went thru they would have had extra cash to invest in more tracking devices.

  2. Many of these so-called blind mules are really blind they're usually women who deny knowing anything about anything!! As long as they keep their fingerprints off any of the packages they have a very good chance of walking away Scott free!! Even the great United States can't lock up everybody!!

    3. I know a person who is a weekly mule, all you have to do is deny you know. You'll win in court every time. They can never prove you know. Then since you win. The next time you win they cannot tell jury about the previous 20 acquittals. If you deny you win every time.

    4. @3:23, I don’t know about that. I know a guy who swore up and down someone planted some stuff in his Semi truck. He took it to trial and got 194 months. Brandon J Sharp out of Elyria, Ohio.
