Río Bravo, Tamaulipas: Extortionist Commander Kasko From The Gulf Cartel

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Video translation is as follows:

Residents of the municipality of Río Bravo in the state of Tamaulipas contacted us to denounce that they are victims of extortion by members of the Gulf Cartel. They’re also charging floor rights to various merchants of the entity.

For which they asked us to spread the following message: "We want to make a call to the federal government since the state government doesn’t respond to our call. So that they can resolve the daily problems in this city.

We can no longer tolerate the fees charged by the Gulf Cartel. We are merchants and we request anonymity because it goes without saying that this complaint can cost us our lives. The truth is that we’re working just to cover the weekly fees that the Gulf Cartel charges us here in Río Bravo.

Many merchants are about to close shop because they’re barely making enough to pay them. Here the fees are charged to bricklayers, small merchants, taco businesses, swap meet owners, gay clubs, tire shops, and beer depots. They’re haven’t been able to tax stray dogs because they just can't. Otherwise they would.

It's not fair that someone with a lot of sacrifice gets up early to make a living, to support the family. And all these people from the cartel come to take away what little you earn. We urge the federal government to support us because we don’t have state government backing.

We have nothing personal against cartels. They can stay in their own lane. Just like we stay in ours. But it's not fair that they’re messing with good people. We want an end to all of this impunity". That’s how the message concludes that was sent to this medium.

The afflicted have identified a subject who calls himself Commander Kasko of the Gulf Cartel, from the Grupo Escorpiones cell, as the head of the plaza. He’s the individual that gives the order for the fees to be charged.

  1. How are these losers Commanders?
Isn’t that a military rank? Who decides that they can call themselves that?

    1. Either they call themselves it or their hitmen choose to call them it. And some media publications just go along with what they are commonly called.

This is especially true when their narco corrido calls them Comandante in the title.

I personally try to remove it when I write, so "Comandante Diablo" becomes just "El Diablo".

    2. It's not a military "rank" in the US army, marines, or Air force. The US navy does have a rank of "LT Commander" which is a junior officer rank. It's very unusual in any military of the world to have an official rank of "commander".

    3. It doesn’t matter if the military uses it as a rank or not these bums are certainly not commanders or have any discipline. What are the chances any of these idiots in tactical gear will ever rise to the level of Mencho, Chapo, Mayo etc. These clowns are cannon fodder.
If you were to change the title to
Cannon Fodder Kasko that would be more realistic and stand out more.

    4. Commander isn't necessarily a rank, for example the Lt. Colonel can be the commander of the object that you are apart of. You will call him 'commander' because that is the role that he fulfills, you do not usually call him by his actual rank. Atleast this is how it went in my experience, it might differ in other countries

    5. What about el Commandante Juan Rambo? Is he really a Commander?

    6. In the U.S. military we do address people by their rank. Commander is just a job title.

    7. Commander- a person in authority over a body of troops or a military operation.
      Not rank related.

    8. Comandante Che Guevara earned his rank fighting the Batista military...
Neighborhood Watch Captain george zimmerman, claimed his rank after murdering Trayvon Martin, he is now idolized by the NRA and US right wingers.

  2. One cartels uses a threat of violence in the form of looting ,arson ,stealing and false accusations such as character assasination in order to extort "donations".

  4. I think that’s pathetic for anyone to take from the already poor and struggling people who are trying to support their family, and these pieces of shit come along and take everything they have. Does any cartel have a code that they go by? What happened to stealing from the rich to give to the poor? Why can’t they just sell drugs to the gringo’s, who choose to start using drugs, and want to, and leave the good hard working people barely getting by alone?

    1. Every cartel has committed acts of extortion against poor and vulnerable civilians.

Be wary of anyone who claims a certain cartel group doesn't do this, or "has a code", or is the "better one".

    2. You are correct my friend, even “Dexter”, the serial killer from the Showtime series lost his “code” of hunting down only piece of shit pedophiles and rapists and so on. The power of getting away with it for so long, without any consequences fucked up his thinking. He was a very intelligent man, but if anyone knows the show I’m talking about, it doesn’t go on forever for most people, unless you’re El Mayo. I am also very aware that the life down in Mexico is not a fucking show. I’m so sorry to everyone that has lost innocent friends and family members without any justice or closure. But honestly life’s a bitch, then you marry one, then die sooner or later. That’s real life.

    3. "Unless you're El Mayo." WTF? The King Rat™ and his snitching ways will continue until his last breath. There's nothing special about the Cuban
