Acapulco, Guerrero: Prison Riot Due To The Transfer Of Inmates To Federal Prisons Leaves 17 Soldiers Injured

Relatives of the inmates protested outside the prison after the operation carried out in the prison.

Shortly after one in the morning, notice was given of a riot that took place in the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) of Acapulco, carried out by a group of approximately 50 inmates, while a transfer of 25 women and 36 men to federal prisons took place. 

The state Public Security Secretariat announced in its report: The events began just at 1:10 a.m. when more than 50 inmates from other dormitories disturbed order in order to prevent the transfer.

During the altercation, 13 elements of the State Police and 4 of the National Guard were injured. The inmates occupied the government building, for which the division of anti-riot elements carried out a deterrent presence.

Some time after the altercation, the Secretary of Public Security of Guerrero, Evelio Mendez Gomez, arrived and reinforced security with personnel from the Secretary of the Navy, the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Municipal Police at all points in the Cereso prison. It was reported that currently the situation is under control. 

Around the Las Cruces campus, the presence of various police corporations could be seen guarding the area after the inmate riot that took place this morning.
