Osiel Cardenas Jr, the son of Gulf Cartel drug lord Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, was arrested by FBI agents and US Marshals in Brownsville, Texas.

The Arrest

On December 13, 2021, US federal authorities were seen executing an arrest at a residential neighborhood in the border town of Brownsville, Texas for Osiel Cardenas Jr, who is the son of Gulf Cartel kingpin Osiel Cárdenas Guillén.

Osiel Cardenas Jr, alias “El Osielillo”, was allegedly arrested for a parole violation at his home, located inside a gated community, by US Marshals and FBI agents. El Osielillo was previously arrested, back in 2018, on a felony weapons possession charge and a charge related to impersonating a law enforcement officer.

KRGV, a local news channel for the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas, showed exclusive footage they have of the marshals and FBI agents, gathering documents from their vehicles which were parked on a nearby street.

The footage used in the KRGV video depicting the arresting agents appears to show the gated community called Fox Hollow, which is off of Paredes Line Road, southwest of Cameron Park.

Hechos Valle, the Spanish news partner of KRGV, also created a video (seen below) showing more exclusive footage as well as interviewing a Brownsville police officer about the arrest of Osielillo.

Video translation is as follows, as translated by Sol Prendido:

Newscaster: Breaking news. In the latest news tonight citizens of a residential sector in the city of Brownsville witnessed the strong police mobilization. There were federal and local authorities executing an arrest warrant against José Cardenas Jr. Our reporter Enrique Lerma from that city has the images exclusively for Hechos Valle.

Enrique Lerma: This is an active investigation, the operation by multi police agencies. At this time, news is limited, federal agents executed without delay an arrest warrant against Cardenas Jr. for allegedly having violated the right to liberty under supervision.

Officer Martín Sandoval: The federal police called us, the Brownsville police, so that we could assist them in going to Osiel's house. In order to arrest him for a warrant they had. Besides us, of course people from this district, they also collaborated with us.

Enrique Lerma: Brownsville police spokesman Martin Sandoval told Hechos Valle that FBI agents and the US Marshals raided the home of Osiel Cardenas Jr. located in an exclusive residential area in Brownsville. To execute an arrest warrant for the alleged violation to supervised release after a federal judge sentenced him for posing as a federal agent. According to court documents, Federal District Judge Fernando Rodríguez sentenced 29-year-old Cardenas Jr. to a 2-year prison sentence. And he ordered him to serve 3 years of supervised release and pay a $ 15,000 fine.

Officer Martín Sandoval: This operation went well, no one was hurt. Every officer paid attention. We collaborated with the officers and everything. There is no form of security that we understand that could affect the city.

Enrique Lerma: Residents and neighbors off camera say they have seen Cardenas on several occasions without feeling threatened or in danger. But they comment that they’re surprised by the mobilization of the authorities when they were executing a search warrant in the house. And seized several luxurious vehicles, owned by the individual known in criminal circles as "Mini Osiel," “U”, or "Celillo."

Officer Martín Sandoval: Yes. Several properties were taken. This is due to federal agents who probably have charges against Mr. Cardenas.

And so they have to take the property, to check it and ensure that everything is fine before they can proceed.

Enrique Lerma: Cardenas Jr. is the son of 53-year-old former Gulf Cartel drug trafficker Osiel Cardenas Guillén who is currently serving a 25-year sentence in a federal prison.

The Twitter account Reynosa Codigo Rojo has two exclusive video clips that they allege depict an altercation that El Osielillo was involved in. They say his participation in the scuffle is the probation violation which got him arrested.

According to the timestamp on the surveillance video, the incident took place on December 4, 2021 at roughly 5:49 pm. In the second video multiple fights are going on at the same time, some in the foreground, some in the background. It is unclear which person is allegedly Cardenas Jr.

His 2018 Arrest

On March 14, 2018, authorities arrived at the SKY Bar and Lounge in Brownsville after receiving a call which reported an individual within the club was brandishing a firearm. That person was identified as Cardenas. He was found next to his vehicle within the SKY Bar and Lounge parking lot and arrested for public intoxication.

At the time of his arrest, Cardenas informed officers he was a U.S. Marshal and asked them to look at his badge. Hanging on his neck, under his shirt, officers located a gold colored Cameron County District Attorney’s badge. Officers also found a Bersa, .380 caliber firearm inside his vehicle which also contained his identification documents and U.S. currency.

Witnesses identified Cardenas as the individual inside the nightclub brandishing the firearm. They also identified the firearm recovered from his vehicle as the firearm they had seen Cardenas brandish within the nightclub. They indicated Cardenas had also displayed a gold colored badge and identified himself as a U.S. Marshal. The witnesses indicated Cardenas ordered patrons to leave the nightclub or they would be arrested for failure to follow his commands.

On May 22, 2018, Osiel Cardenas Jr. pleaded guilty to one charge of felony weapons possession and one charge of impersonating a US Marshal. Judge Fernando Rodriguez handed Cardenas a 27-month prison sentence, to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release. This supervised release is what Cardenas violated which led to his re-arrest this week.

  1. The "war on drugs" is a joke here in the USA. The gov't picks winners and losers. It's just a game while nothing is done to win the war. The gov't understands that the real problems are here in the states. The American people, overweight, out of shape, lazy drug users demand their drugs. So, the gov't gives the people what they want while at the same time trying to look like they are fighting the good fight on drugs. It's a joke. Play ball with the DEA, do 10 years at the max and keep all that blood money. The biggest con game in history.

    3. It's a fight they shouldn't be spending time money or resources on. It's time to end the war and stop the money flow to countries like Mexico and all South American countries. Until they stop the money flow to the politicos in power is then the war would take fruit. Until then! Fk all you muthafkas!!

    4. 11:27 If you stop the money flow, alot of powerful pockets on both sides will be upset. It's sick but its life these days. There will be no immediate change unless they find a way to supplement that revenue stream

    6. War on drugs is no joke because confiscated money goes to law enforcement budgets for new equipment and overtime so keep on coming with merchandise and money especially laundered.
