Tijuana, Baja California: Los Cabos Face U.S. Federal Charges

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Four alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), accused of orchestrating more than 150 homicides in Tijuana and trafficking drugs to the United States, face federal charges in that country, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office Southern District of California through a press release.

A substitute indictment and arrest warrant were revealed in a U.S. federal court on Monday, June 14, against members of the CJNG in connection with their violent tactics to traffic drugs to the American Union.

The defendants are Edgar Alejandro Herrera Pardo, alias "El Cayman/Cape 8, Carlos Lorenzo Hinojosa Guerrero, "Cabo 96"; Edgar Pérez Villa, "Cabo 89"; and Israel Alejandro Vázquez-Vázquez, "Cabo 50", known as "Los Cabos", among other members, for conspiring to distribute and import controlled substances.

According to the Court's information, "El Caimán", "Cabo 96", "Cabo 89" and "Cabo 50" are the leaders of a group that generates violence in Baja California for the Jalisco Cartel, who allegedly use extreme violence to be able to cross drugs through Tijuana to the United States.

It was detailed that based on investigations by U.S. authorities, in a period of 6 months, they were able to obtain the information that they planned more than 150 homicides, most of which were carried out in Tijuana.

Among the victims of "Los Cabos" are two American teenagers, residents of Chula Vista, California, who were murdered in Tijuana in November 2018.

It was also reported that "Los Cabos" attacked police officers in Tijuana, where they killed three of them.

The CJNG is one of the most violent transnational organizations in the world, which is known for trafficking several drugs to the United States, such as cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and heroin, in addition to using percusores  from China and India for the manufacture of the synthetic drug.

It is also considered a cartel that has contributed to a catastrophic trail of victims of violence in Mexico, one of the most armed and which confront other cartels in the country for the supremacy of drug trafficking.

"For a long time, powerful cartels have implemented indescribable violence in Tijuana, a city next to San Diego. We will continue our campaign to end the reign of terror of the cartels and stop the flow of drugs across the border by prosecuting the leaders and leaders," said U.S. Attorney General Randy S. Grossman.

Information published by ZETA refers to Edgar Alejandro Herrera Pardo alias "El Cayman and/or "El Cabo 8" operator of the CJNG in Tijuana, was arrested on August 4, 2019, along with the former model Maine de la Cruz Rojas in San Luis Potosí, after an arrest warrant was fulfilled for her probable responsibility in the commission of the crime against health.

While data released in the Security Roundtable refer to Carlos Lorenzo Hinojosa Guerrero "El Hacker" or "El Cabo 96" is a gunman who operated in the East Zone under the command of Rodolfo López Arellano "Solecito" or "El Cabo 30".

On October 9, 2020, with the support of elements of the Sedena and National Guard, elements of the Secretariat of Security and Municipal Citizen Protection (SSPCM) of Tijuana, Edgar Pérez Villa alias "El Nier" or "Cabo 89" was captured, identified as the alleged head of hitmen of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the Sánchez Taboada and Los Pinos neighborhoods, in Tijuana.

Israel Alejandro Vázquez Vázquez "El Cabo 50" and / or "El Goofy" along with other members of the cartel operate as a mafia united in the struggle to expand their criminal control throughout the Lower California Coast Zone, according to Intelligence reports from the Coordination Table.
