Pablo Escobar: Money hidden in wall found in the capo's house

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat  TY 'CH'  Source

A nephew of infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar has said he found a plastic bag with money worth $18m (£14m) hidden in the wall of one of his uncle's houses.

Nicolás Escobar told Colombian media "a vision" indicated where to look for the money in the apartment where he lives in the city of Medellín.

He said it was not the first time he found money in places where his uncle used to avoid capture, as Escobar reportedly hid millions in properties.

He died in a police shootout in 1993.

At the peak of his career Escobar was said to be the seventh richest person on the planet.

Rumours of Escobar's hidden fortunes have circulated in Medellín since his death, after he spent decades waging war against the Colombian state to prevent his extradition to the United States.

Nicolás Escobar told Colombian TV channel Rojo Noticias he had also found a typewriter, satellite phones, gold pen, a camera and a film roll yet to be developed.

"Every time I sat in the dining room and looked towards the car park, I saw a man entering the place and disappearing," he said.

"The smell [inside] was astonishing. A smell 100 times worse than something that had died."

Some of decades-old banknotes were decayed and no longer usable, said Nicolás Escobar, who has been living in the apartment for the last five years.

In the interview, he said he accompanied his uncle on many occasions, and that he was once kidnapped by individuals looking for Escobar's whereabouts: "I was tortured for seven hours. Two of my workers were attacked with a chainsaw."

Who was Pablo Escobar?

Escobar was born in Rionegro, Colombia in 1949 and established a drug cartel in Medellín in the 1970s.

At its most active, the gang supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States.

His wealth catapulted him into the Forbes list of global billionaires for seven years.

After the US issued an extradition order, Escobar resisted capture and his gang targeted politicians, the police and journalists.

After he was arrested in 1991, Escobar was housed in a prison of his own design, nicknamed the Cathedral, where he continued to oversee the Medellín Cartel.

In all, Escobar is thought to be responsible for some 4,000 deaths.

But his humble roots made him popular among some Colombians whose support he cultivated by giving out large amounts of cash and investing in poor neighbourhoods in Medellín.

  3. Lol @ a vision, sure...

Still curious to if he is actually entitled to any of the money? He certainly struck the lotto if so.

I wonder if he just always knew there was money hidden in the apt, and just waited until an opportune time to go for it..

  4. Really doubt that any of the money is useable after 30+ years in a humid tropical climate.

  5. If this is true I would think telling the news media or anyone for that matter is a pretty stupid move on his part.

  10. Pabo's son calls this fake news and I watched the entire 7:15 minute video on the red+ twitter feed and they never show any of the money and say it's unusable due to the age, but the typewriter and radios appear well preserved. If it's dollars and can be documented, they can be replaced no matter what according to the US Treasury.

This story sounds very fishy, mostly because they don't show a single bill from the supposed stash and Juan Pablo Escobar Henao posted:

  15. This entire story is false. It was made up by the nephew. After seeing it on BB earlier I called up people I have a personal relationship with who work for Roberto, (pablo's bro) and he confirmed it. He has even released video refuting the story. People in medellin already know the story is a hoax. Theres no 18 million dollars lol

  16. This story sounds more like bullshit from the nephew.
If I found money like that in the walls I sure in hell keep it secret, especially from the pigs/gov, and old enemies.
It really sounds like he is trying to capitalize off of Pablo's legacy, just like his old hitman (name escapes me) until he got re-picked up by the gov and ushered off to jail again.

  19. yes the Güey colloquial noun is spelled G-ü-e-y but also at least 6 other versions. I used wey which is considered the contemporary spelling and is easiest for non spanish speakers to understand if using as a rhyme.

To see a comment that was so derogatory because I chose this version was completely irrational. Especially since the accompanying English was atrocious. 👎

  27. He was about to be an important politician but he got his ass kicked out of politics. They found out that we has a cartel. How the hell did pablo escobar didn't get away with it but that fat orange orangutan did. The difference is that Pablo helped the poor to get influence. Our loser president didn't do shit. He just build lousy hotels that ended in bankruptcy. To be honest I didn't know who was Donald trump until the 2016 presidential election. Holy shit Pablo Escobar was a left wing. How come the left didn't defend his ass when he was one of them. Just like the right defends that orange thing.

I guess the politicians in colombia had there limits of not letting Escobar join to get immunity.

    1. no respect anymore, that's President Orangutang to you ! he will be re-elected, and chapo will stay at his free room, soon to be joined by menscho. after 5 years solitary for initiation they will then play cards in the cafeteria, and snitch to each other, while its all recorded. take care its not you for that next room down the hall, or maybe the secret supermax dungeon for really nice guys that just couldnt draw the line.

    2. CDX in Florence, Colorado Aka "Supermax" where Chapo will die is designed first and foremost to crush the last shred of hope it's inmates will ever have. In Chapo's case it was very simple since he had broken down crying the night he landed here in NYC. He cried again during his trial, when the judge denied his defense teams ridiculous request to have 5 minutes alone with his wife and daughters. El Chapo died before he ever got to Supermax.
