Baja California: Shut down by state government, U.S. Maquila reopens after agreeing to sell its ventilators to Mexico

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat ZetaTijuana/Valley News

After almost of week of a “battle,” the state of Baja California is allowing American company Smiths Medical Maquiladora to reopen and continue building badly-needed ventilators.

Baja California Gov. Jaime Bonilla had declared the plant as “non-essential” and ordered it closed when management said none of the ventilators would be sold to Mexico.

On Sunday, after days of negotiations, Bonilla agreed to let the plant resume operations when Smiths Medical, based in St. Paul, Minn., said it would sell ventilators to Mexico as well as other countries.

The governor did not indicate how many ventilators would be provided to Mexican interests or how much Mexico would pay for them.

Note: The U.S. Ambassador headed the negotiations to reopen the plant.  The ownership is in UK but the headquarters are in the U.S. and is who produces  the ventilators.

The company manufactures short and long term ventilators, vet ventilators and emergency medicine and first responder ventilators.

    4. The real problem is EGO. 1) USA isn't the only country facing the medical crisis. 2) Everyone in the USA wants to make $20/hr. That drastically increases the cost to produce anything on USA

      Delete
    5. A lot of people here in Mexico want to go to the USA to make that $20 per hour. It is not about EGO, but survival. People here live on $60 to $80 per week. Gas is more costly than in the USA, and electronics and vehicles also. The big companies could sell things for less in the USA, and still make a good living by selling more product. the EGO is with the big corporations, and CEO's. That is why they use cheap labor in Mexico and China. $20 is not a lot of money in the USA. It is poverty, as many things are more expensive. Houses, land, insurance and more.

    6. How can one place a real figure to ones self worth? Where companies have fled to other countries for profits? Taking advantage of cheap labor and
      weak environmental protection laws.
Where forcibly applied laws are displacing thousands of people from communities for real estate developments for profit.
America has always been for sale to those profiteers. Never protecting the financially impacted inequality of its citizens.
The reshaping of American societies depends on leadership to its constituents. Not those lobbyists and companies who suite their pocketbooks.

    7. Those companies got rich off drug trafficking, but they laundered their ill gotten gains properly, starting in Bolivia with the murder of Che Gevara, set up by Fidel Castro for the US, then fidel got financier Robert Vesco to set up the investing of The Revolución's hard earned cocaine trafficking profits and Castro also sent general Arnaldo Ochoa hero of the Cuban Revolution to the firing squad when he got caught, to save La Revolución all over again...
--None of that crap was engineered by any Mexicans whatsoever.

  2. Sounds like a maga-t company to me. All about them, and damn anyone else. They want the cheap labor in Mexico; they are lucky they weren't kicked out of the country and let them hire more expensive USA labor and see how long they stay in business.

    1. Truly doubt the US government would allow narcos from Mexico to reform their economic system. These cartels have more sufficient money to acquire resources to shift the balance of the American economic wheel if desired. Can u imagine the criticism from those who will be financially impacted by those US companies?
The latter result will definitely be retaliation and placed in categorization of terrorist state. Like many who were unjustly classified by American politics.
These cartels can do wonders with the enormous amount of money that American people generate to their pockets. Along with other countries who contribute to this fact.
Powers control the aspects of all living. How those powers are rendered are often at question & odds with how its implemented.

    3. 10:17 no Mexican DTO has been fined billions of dollars for money laundering, Mexican capos' billions have not been found either...
But US and british banks have paid their fines in the billions and got to keep their ill gotten gains, about 90% of the drug trafficking profit.

A country where values, humanitarian and just are being discarded when it pertains to others. America should be ashamed of such practices.

    3. 6:46 I think YOU missed the point... America has everything outsourced cause they don't want to deal with the pollution and want everything cheap. Yeah, cheaper labor but they also want chepq products, just look at everything sold at Walmart and the lines at Walmart

    4. Sad part of this will be a housing crisis. Despite an overrated housing market since 2006 (a jump of 117 %). Banks and borrowing practices will face difficult challenges ahead. Even for small business owners who have exasperated all appropriated government assistance. The insufficient amount of money will not be enough to sustain one's lifestyle nor economic status.
We are in peril times. The wall street journal reports that the next 45 days will indicate who profits and looses.

    5. 11:40 who needs WSJ to tell who profits.
The epidemic was allowed to spread all over the world while the rich cornered respirators, gowns, masks, and ventilators' market.
Now with about 6 trillion dollars up in the air they are sharpening their fangs and claws to get all they can as their rightful share.

Even now they are fragmented, poorly fed, owe their weapons to someone up there, have no leadership worth naming.
--As for political influence on the US and elections since the 70s,
you could ask gaslitnation.com with Andrea Chalupa and Sarah Kendzior about the russians, La Cosa Nostra got cleaned out to make room the the Red Mafiya of Simeon Mogilevich predecessors.
By The way, Mister Mogilevich is not on the FBI MOST WANTED anymó, why?
