Court reverses ruling and will consider evidence offered by Rafael Caro Quintero against extradition to the U.S.

 Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat  Milenio

Mexico City… A Federal Court agreed to take into account and analyze evidence offered by drug trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero in what is his most important trial; to determine if he will win an order that will prevent his extradition  to the United States.

The First Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters accepted the appeal of the legendary drug trafficker who for 35 years has managed to evade the Americans,  who today offers $ 20 million bounty on his head, to extradite and prosecute him for the murder of the DEA agent, Enrique Camarena Salazar, a crime committed in Guadalajara.

Mexican pilot Alfredo Zavala Avelar was also killed.

On February 13th, the aforementioned Court decided not to consider the supervening evidence presented by Juan Manuel González Gómez, authorized by Rafael Caro Quintero, which consists of a documentary that is part of a volume certified by the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the nation.

Caro Quintero filed an appeal a claim that has now been ruled as "founded", which is why the magistrates reversed their ruling and accepted that the evidence with which Caro Quintero seeks to win the trial be studied.

Currently, the First Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters analyzes questions of legality and will ultimately have to decide whether or not to hand Caro Quintero  over to the Americans.

At the end of last year, the First Chamber of the Court refused to protect the former member of the Guadalajara cartel, who asked that various articles of the Extradition Treaty signed between Mexico and the United States be declared unconstitutional.

After the resolution, the file was returned to the First Collegiate Court.

  3. ‘The Last Narc’: Amazon Prime Video; Cartel Docuseries Drops First Photos, Sets Release Date

    https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/last-narc-amazon-prime-cartel-140057604.html

The world of Mexican drug cartels continues to be an interesting gambit for entertainment. Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico” series has garnered quite the following over its three seasons, in spite of controversy including their location manager being murdered back in 2017, and with “Narcos: Mexico” giving Diego Luna a chance to shine other streaming services are following suit.

Amazon Prime is taking a different route, looking at an element touched on during the first season of “Narcos: Mexico” and telling the true story. “The Last Narc” is a four-part docuseries examining in detail the 1985 kidnap and murder of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Camarena was played by Michael Peña on “Narcos: Mexico.”

From the Amazon synopsis: “The series tells the story of a fallen hero, the men who killed him, and the man who risked everything to find out what really happened and why. Highly decorated special agent Hector Berellez, who was assigned to lead the DEA’s investigation of Camarena’s murder, peels back the layers of myth and propaganda to reveal the bone-chilling truth about a conspiracy that stretches from the killing fields of Mexico to the halls of power in Washington, D.C.”

“It’s a story I’ve been wanting to tell for about 14 years,” director Tiller Russell said to IndieWire. “I’ve been carefully biding my time until I had a great canvas on which to tell it and access to the people involved.”

Russell praises “Narcos” for how it dealt with the same material as “The Last Narc,” but said, “This is a different undertaking. This is a very well-known, well-publicized case and what we’re contributing to it is astonishing true revelations that people have been wondering about for a very long time.”

Russell, who has previously helmed the documentaries “Operation Odessa” and “The Seven Five.” He also has the feature film “Silk Road” debuting this year starring Jason Clarke, Paul Walter Hauser, and Alexandra Shipp. IPC’s Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman are executive producers.

When asked how “The Last Narc” stands above the numerous options out there, especially as we’re in quarantine, Russell says it will gather “the people who are huge fans of true crime, the underworld, drug war, cops and robbers story. That’s the sweet spot of who we’re aiming for.”

In the exclusive photos below you’ll see a never-before-seen photo of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena with his wife Geneva “Mika” Camarena taken in Guadalajara in 1980, as well as Former DEA agent Hector Berrellez, who was assigned to lead the agency’s investigation of Kiki Camarena’s murder as well as Ramón Lira, a former Jalisco State policemen and one-time bodyguard to legendary drug lord Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo

“The Last Narc” streams May 15 exclusively on Amazon.

    5. Has someone starting smoking the stuff we were putting people in jail for. This country is a mess because of faulty leadership. GDP: $22.32 trillion USD (2020). We bailed out the farmers(billions), big corps (billions) and have not collected the tariffs from China as yet.....the deficit you say...well it was $585 billion in 2016 and today its over $1.083 TRILLON....yes, I guess that it's the lowest in history( but in reality its double)

  7. BIG BIG money talks. The corruption is so in the open and the judges do not care. They want $$$$ now as the US cannot do a thing to them.....only their government. Except label them persona non gratis but they will now have the big bucks they do not care....island resort nearby with no extradition treaty. The only thing they would have to worry about and what would keep them up at night is they will be labeled and marked as cartel participants and will have a target on them.

  9. For anyone who's seen Narcos Mexico: (I haven't watch season 2, so no spoilers please) I notice they completely downplayed Rafa's role in Kiki's death, and it doesn't seem like they're going to mention that they eventually let him go. I feel this is because the creators of the show knew that this (his release) happened in 2013, and don't want to pin any blame on the recent government for letting him go. They want to portray all the serious corruption in the show as a thing of the past.
    Thoughts?

    3. Regarding Narcos...it is an ongoing series that I am sure like the original Narcos did expand and tell the stories of AFO/Chapo and keeping going with the timeline to Zetas/etc. So they wouldn't end cap it saying that so soon. The show has no issue calling out corruption in Mexican government/telling what happened (or close to what happened) so I dont think that is the reason, just that the story will eventually get to that time in history and might include it, or not.

    4. Actually is well known rcq was a scape goat, it was dea and some higher ups in mexico who killed camarena, its kinda like the lebarons they are blaming lineas but its well known it was cds who killed all those lil kids, so in all fairness if they want to extradite rcq it should be because of the drug dealing not the murder of camarena

    5. @1:36 Yep, they make Caro look like an idiot and psychopath in the t.v. show.

    6. Why don’t they mention mayo in the show? Is it cause he’s still a free man and the producers are afraid he’ll retaliate for giving him fame? I’ve always wondered. He’s always been a big member in the organization and not once do they mention him

  10. Only in Mexico can they bribe the judges. Jose Trevino Morales tried to bribe a judge in the U.S. after they seized his ranch in oklahoma and all 400 of his race horses and the judge slapped him with 20+ years and a million something dollar fine. Had he attempted to bribe the judge he would have gotten another decade slapped onto his sentence.
