Coronavirus Update 3.. "A very painful coming two weeks" warns the president

Chivis Martinez for Borderland Beat
4/3/20 Global cases over 1 millon, deaths tops 53,000....
U.S. 245k cases and 6000 deaths 908 in 24hr..
2214 deaths projected on April 15th...at peak

Thursday Stats 4.2.20

U.S.:245,400 Cases, 6005 Deaths… an increase of 908 deaths since Tuesday Global: 803,700 Cases and 42,404 Deaths in 155 countries

Global: 1,026,001 Cases, 53,930 Deaths in 155 nations

New York: 91,734 Cases 2935 Deaths Note: hospitalizations have slowed for 8 days straight

California: 11,126 Cases 244 Deaths

Mexico: 1510 Cases 50 Deaths Note: Mexico is not providing confirmed comprehensive information including affected states.

Notes from yesterday: In the ongoing issue of mask wearing, today CDC is expected to announce guidelines for mask wearing.  CDC, Dr. Fauci and Birx have been against wearing masks as “not needed”.  It will be interesting what compromise was reached.

Social Security recipients will receive checks in 2 weeks if they are paid by direct deposit.  Like for everyone else, the government is working off 2018 tax returns and income earned in that year.  For those not using direct deposit, you will receive checks via mail and they will be delayed.
Unemployment is now 4.4%

The pneumonia vaccine protects against bacterial pneumonia, not the COVID-19 virus. COVID-19 is viral not bacterial.

Treatment: Although trials continue, Malaria drug alone or with ZPAC has proven to be effective by those using it.  It is now the go to medication for doctors.  The meds have been used for decades for malaria and off label for Lupus and arthritis, and proven safe.

Trump was tested again yesterday, this time via the Abbott 5 min test, he was negative.

Below is the infamous cases and death "curve" chart from Dr. Birx

March 31, 2020 Task Force Conference:

Trump: “It will be a very rough 2 weeks ahead. Very painful 2 weeks”.  Trump is referring to the “peak” expected in 2 weeks.

Paycheck protection: 2 months payroll protection for small businesses begins April 3.
Americans Repatriated: 25k Americans brought home

Dr. Birx: Goals of community mitigation; flattening the curve, bringing down death tolls.  Projections without mitigation are 1.5 to 2.2 Million deaths.  With mitigation it is 100 to 200k or less.

April 15 it the expected peak date based of data models.

Birx explained the cumulative charts, saying the California is not rising much unlike NY, attributes to mitigation right away where NY delayed a couple of weeks. (at top)
Second chart is cumulative cases per 100k for all states. ((below) (Click on any image to enlarge)

Italy: Has turned the corner and peaked

“No one that has needed a ventilator has been denied a ventilator.”

Dr. Fauci: There are 2 dynamic forces;; Virus left alone, that dark curve on the chart, and virus with mitigation.  “We are convinced that mitigation will be doing the trick for us.” “We are now seeing glimpses of this in NY.”

“Don’t be discouraged!  We will continue to see things go up, but mitigation is working.”

“The first 15 Day plan to stop the virus was proven effective.  BUT now is not the time to take the foot off the accelerator, this IS the answer.”

Birx: “Projection using all models, including Italy, is 100 to 200k deaths in the U.S. …but we are hoping to do even better.”

Fauci: “Our hope is to get the number down. …we don’t accept the projection, we can do better.”

Deaths will “lag” so you will see deaths even though we are doing “really, really well.”  California and Washington mitigated early, before New York and may be reflected in the flattening of the line.  We are in good shape.

Trump: Old testing systems were done by CDC and the States, they only processed 30 to 50k per day, now the new systems in place using outside labs processes 100k or more per day.

Governor Newsom of California: California has the largest homeless population.  The governor promises thousands of hotel rooms for the homeless.

China: Reporting an uptick in infections and reinfections.  China blames the new round on “foreign travelers”

Treatment: 1,100 patients in trial (NY) for malaria drugs and ZPAC.  Waiting for the results.

Fauci: A whole menu of drugs in clinical trials.  That usually takes months that is why they are testing drugs already approved.

CDC is recommending no change on the mask policy…..you do not need them unless medically compromised or show symptoms.

COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and now with this new virus (named SARS-CoV-2).

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a betacoronavirus, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. All three of these viruses have their origins in bats. The sequences from U.S. patients are similar to the one that China initially posted, suggesting a likely single, recent emergence of this virus from an animal reservoir.  Early on, many of the patients at the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China had some link to a large seafood and live animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread. Later, a growing number of patients reportedly did not have exposure to animal markets, indicating person-to-person spread

Tuesday Stats 3.31.20
U.S.: 164,400 Cases 3173 Deaths… since Sunday a 24k increase nationwide in cases and 773 deaths increase over the two day period.

Global: 803,605 Cases and 39,033 Deaths in 155 countries

California is experiencing a slow increase with 7429 Cases and 149 Deaths.  44 deaths in L.A...Possibly attributed to social distancing as Governor Newsom was the first in the nation to call for “sheltering in place”.

New York: 75,795 Cases 914 Deaths  Note: hospitalizations have slowed for 7 days straight

Mexico: 1094 Cases 28 Deaths Note: Mexico is not providing confirmed comprehensive information including affected states (see graph below)

To mask or not to mask….citizens left confused…

Since I have been reporting on the CV, I have stressed the CDC and Dr Fauci, warning that masks were not needed to be worn and by hoarding the masks and other medical protection wear; it has caused a critical shortage needed by first responders, medical personnel and those high risk persons, such as those with immune deficiencies.

Now there is discussion being conducted by professionals and the CDC, masks worn in public by asymptomatic persons it would stop that person from transmitting the virus.   The masks worn by healthy persons is useless in protection but worn by a carrier may stop that person from spreading the highly contagious disease.  CDC is looking into this and may impose a mandatory face shielding such as bandannas.

Surgeon General says wearing masks are an added danger of acquiring the virus, as people improperly wear the masks, and touch them with hands.....Stay tuned

Testing: U.S. has tested over 1m and is testing 100k per day, more than any other country in the world.  That number will jump as new testing products are used.  The “5 Minute Testing” machine began yesterday.  The noninvasive test machine can be utilized anywhere, mobile units, urgent care, doctor’s office.  Normally taking 8 to 10 weeks to present a new test, this took a couple of weeks and is highly accurate. Trump displayed the small unit at the task force presser yesterday.  Trump says there are now 20 testing options. The 5 Min machine was sent to NYC, Seattle, DC and 2 to Ohio.

Ventilators: Ford along with GE are speedily churning out the pNueton non-electric ventilators.  The machine works on compressed oxygen, important in situations such as mash type facilities where electricity is limited.  Ford/GE They will produce at least 50k in 100 days.

Seema Verma CMS Administrator: They are waving regulations in order to provide expanded care such as “wall-less” hospitals facilities operating outside a hospital. (non CV patients)

Mobile Labs now being used for home appointments, for persons unable to travel to a facility.

Now allowing ER’s to use Telemedicine systems.

Now providing childcare, laundry services, meals for medical personnel and will pay for physicians to make phone calls with their patients for consultation appointments.
Fauci:  Expects another wave of the virus in the fall.  But emphasizes “It will be a whole different ballgame”, citing testing, treatments and the ability “to trace and isolate” plus “a number of clinical trials for therapeutic intervention, and most importantly multiple vaccine candidates may be ready next season”.

Dozens of companies in the U.S. have stepped up and are manufacturing medical protection gear, medical supplies and equipment.  Many are donating the product.

Mike Lindell of My Pillow is making 50 masks a day rather than pillows.  He is just one of the many citizens that have stepped up to the virus challenge.

4 of the last 5 Viruses originated in Asia’s “Wet Markets”

For ventilators you could use bicycle pumps, electric or manual. Mother in laws not legally approved to breathe on your face, your choice.

I have been keeping up with John Hopkins daily tracking information of Covid 19. This fearing pandemic is the reality of what's to come.
These stay at home orders are working to stem the infections.
However, recent rave party goers near Mexico's border have yet to comply with the seriousness of this threat.

We all need to comply for life's normalization.

Compare to seasonal flu with death rate of 0.1%. Mexico and India will be crushed from this. US will get hit hard but recover.

I watch Univision. Never do I see a Black person. Not even as a waiter or maid. If there is a Black character, he/she is the lightest-skinned mulatto they could find. Anglos grudgingly will accept black skinned TV personalities. Latinos want nothing to do with dark-skinned Black people, and feel no need to question their beliefs. Not talking about North American Mexicans so much as pointing out Latin Americans and South Americans, especially Brazil.
If you judge Latino culture by TV shows, Black people simply do not exist. Anglos at least pay lip service to being inclusive. Fair-complected Latinos want nothing to do with Blacks and they don't care what anybody else thinks about that attitude.

THIS TIME NO SO...as fauci has explained, the vaccine most promising so far is already in human clinical trials phase one and early summer phase 2. it should be approved and supply ready by next covid 19 season or 12 to 18 months (from early March).

he said this is unprecedented because Trump lifted the regulations left by obama and bush making private enterprise and gov to work together.

There are other vaccines that look good but only this one is in human trail. the others are still in the animal testing phase.

SARS another corona virus from the province we live in in china...took years to make a vaccine. sars began in 2002 in 2006 they still had no vaccine...

bottom line all these medical and first responders are heroes. So my son had 2 degrees one in business then he earned another in fire science. anyone interested get at least a fire science degree at community college. you will prob make it to the top tier of candidates. testing is important, obviously being physically fit is very important. the physical test is hard. and the interview is as important as written test. remember for 12 shift a month 24hrs each you have to live with your crew.

But the brotherhood is unlike anything else. families become family. Honestly as proud as I am of my son, I did not want him to be in such a dangerous physically grueling profession.

BUT he loves it and I have stopped worrying. It doesn't help, if his life was taken in the line of duty, as the saying goes, he would have died doing what he absolutely loved.

    1. NY was late to order people off the streets 2 wks later than calif and wa. calif and wa have the flat lines on the graph and few deaths....hopefully it holds people can"t let up. all the kids in our family have long been on line schooling from the CV. they like it.

so ny having vertical condensed living like china was likely to explode with infections.

BUT if they imposed a stay at home order they would have been in good shape. 2 weeks allowed 8.3 million to interact with each other spreading infections. the tricky thing about this virus beside being ultra contagious is that many people are asymptomatic...

    1. that is the term china used. implying that a person can get it twice. but once you have the antibodies supposedly you have them for life and that keeps another infection at bay

How many deaths Borderland Beat wants Mexico to provide so you can be happy ?

    1. If you had two brain cells to rub together you would realize comprehensive data is needed for global modeling. as well as knowing where hot spots are. no just a low count and no death count. the numbers above are the only confirmed cases.
I have many relatives in mexico...sonora, sinaloa and jalisco. i would like to see the curve for those states. I am sure others want to follow the states they have family in.

    2. Yep people like 515 don't know what models are you ,can't teach an old dog new tricks. California is going by models to lower the curve, hope ours will be kept down.

they say it is an option but recommended to wear even a bandanna. this is because people in markets etc are not social distancing. they say a medical mask or n95 is not needed.

ETSY has many I just checked and they are washable with or without a filter pocket

    6. 6:17 paper towels make perfect filters. if you have a filter pocket in your masks you can cut PT to size and use them instead of expensive filters. toss after each use and get another. A doctor on television said that.

    1. Chivis that is funny that Amazon suppliers are taking long, I ordered masks no even N95, March 20th, and said delivery May 15-20. Furthermore they are coming from China, we are too dependant on other countries for products, USA needs ventilators, guess which country will be making them?

Wear face mask like Chivis has mentioned in here. They say 80 percent can get infected. Some countries are prepared, while others are not.

  45. Hi Chivis
We live in a apartment complex of 3 floors, 25 units. My wife likes to open the windows to let fresh air in. I told her they should stay closed as of someone in the complex would have it, the air would not bring it in. Who do you think is right?

    1. Oh boy....well based on what I have heard from dr birx, fauci and the surgeon general...the virus does not transfer in the air...it takes "droplets" sneeze or coughing creates droplets, and those travel about 6 feet which is why they are calling for social separation of 6 feet. I would think it is fine to open windows as long as your neighbors open window is not less than 6 feet away. and even that would take a highly unusual set of circumstances to have it travel to your home. neighbor standing in the open window you standing at yours he is asymptomatic and sneezes a gust of wind comes and blows the droplets to you. could it happen? sure...but HIGHLY unlikely.

I am not an expert but if it were me i would be ok with it open taking in consideration the windows are more than 6 feet apart.

not sure if you have an elevator, but i would avoid those if possible. lots of metal and the virus stays alive on metal for several days.

My husband is still in china, I told him to please not use the elevator, "are you crazy...?" he said our home is 25 floors up. I guess some things you can"t avoid.
