Son of a Chihuahua Police Chief Killed in Latest Statewide Violent Saga

"Morogris" for Borderland Beat
Josué Gabriel Samaniego Rodríguez (age 24), murdered
Josué Gabriel Samaniego Rodríguez, the son of a police chief in Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua, was confirmed dead yesterday in Ciudad Juárez. According to investigators, the victim left his home on March 2 and was intending to cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally with a group of people but was kidnapped.

His family said that Josué Gabriela wanted to visit the U.S. but did not have a visa to enter legally. His body was found on March 3 in Las Arcadas neighborhood. His death was officially confirmed by relatives and friends yesterday.

His murder is part of a violent saga unfolding in Chihuahua since early March. A few days ago, Juan Uriel Valle Badillo – the son of the Villa Ahumada mayor Juan de Dios Valle Camacho – was murdered. Two days later, while the mayor and his wife headed to the airport, gunmen tried to kill them. None of the perpetrators have been arrested.

Background
Josué Gabriel was born in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, on 11 October 1995. His father was Armando Samaniego, the head of the Transit Police in Villa Ahumada.

On March 2 at around 2:30 p.m., Josué Gabriel disappeared after he left his home on his way to the Rio Grande River. His bullet-ridden body was found the following day next to another corpse; the police confirmed that Josué Gabriel was shot in the head. Investigators stated that the assailants murdered him in another location and then dumped his body in an abandoned lot. He was the fourth person murdered that day in Ciudad Juárez and the twenty-first in the first three days of March.

Josué Gabriel remained unidentified for several days while his family members and friends shared pictures of him on social media to try to find him. Authorities did not publicly announce his disappearance.

Hours after Josué Gabriel’s kidnapping, Valle Badillo, the son of the Villa Ahumada mayor, was killed near the Ciudad Juárez International Airport while waiting for an Uber trip. He had just arrived to Ciudad Juárez and was heading home to see his family. Valle Badillo was a student of the Technological Institute of Ciudad Juárez and was studying electromagnetic engineering.

Two days later, the mayor himself was victim of an attack near the airport, as reported by Borderland Beat. He was not injured in the attack but a woman died at the scene from a heart attack caused by the shock of the attempted murder. The mayor requested state authorities to grant him a leave of absence for five days. Municipal authorities confirmed that if the mayor is absent for more than fifteen days, he will be removed from office.

On 9 March, friends confirmed to reporters that the corpse found days prior was Josué Gabriel's. Josué Gabiel had worked under the political campaign of Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) deputy candidate Ana Georgia Zapata Lucero and made several friends there. Those friends were the ones that told reporters that Josué Gabriel had been fully identified.

The perpetrators of each of these attacks are at large.

    4. Attacks against the president seem acceptable? Despite his lack of control of idiotic behavior from criminals.
He like many can't nor shouldn't bear the responsibility where there are officials who are entrusted to control situations. Moreover, babysitting stupidity.
I once was a critic of his policies. Yet having studied him further with his reforms & accountability actions taken against many. He has done & doing more than other presidents.
And yes BB is a great website for information pertaining to the crisis facing Mexico. There is no disputing this fact. It's easy to point finger on matters that you have no idea of resolving. Time will determine his objectives if permitted by those who truly oppose (financially speaking).
      Everything needs tweaking for solutions.

  2. Funny how El Chuyin the leader of the Juarez cartel after Vicente Carillo was rumored to be recently released from prison and not even a month later and the Ahumada police and political elite are in danger of loosing their lives.
Makes you wonder what really went down before or after El Chuyins arrest?

  3. Appears not to be a victim of unfortunate circumstances. Many who attempt crossings are not riddled with bullets. Rather, held captive for ransoms.
There is more to this story than what family are saying. Fleeing for his safety is what it looks like.

    1. I agree. Whatever the real reason was, he definitely knew something we don't know yet. Too much heat going on in Villa Ahumada.

    1. No idea. None of the cited sources mentioned a specific criminal group, but it would be good to look into who controls Villa Ahumada. Comments above say it may be the faction tied to Jesús Salas Aguayo ("El Chuyín").

    2. Word is the mayor in Villa Ahumada was born in Sinaloa. Makes sense the police captains son as well as his getting killed. Looks like a cleansing taking place all over Chihuahua and from the most likely group.
They don't play and don't play and don't need soldiers for support either.
