Project Python: DEA-led operation nets more than 500 arrests targeting CJNG and its leader El Mencho

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat  DEA Press Release

The agency said that El Mencho is very dangerous-"even more so that El Chapo"--- CJNG has 4 hubs-L.A. Chicago Atlanta and New York.  500 arrested, and seized 15,000 kilos of meth and 20M usd.  CJNG now controls up to 2/3's of the US drug market......

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration today announced the results of Project Python, a DEA-led multilateral interagency operation encompassing all global investigations and related disruption activities targeting the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG).

This announcement marks the successful conclusion of six months of investigative and enforcement activity targeting CJNG, culminating in large scale arrests throughout the country within the past week. Project Python has resulted in the arrests of more than 500 CJNG associates, 350 indictments, as well as significant seizures of money and drugs.

“Project Python is the single largest strike by U.S. authorities against CJNG, and this is just the beginning,” said Acting Administrator Uttam Dhillon. “This strategic and coordinated project exemplifies DEA’s mission: to disrupt, dismantle, and destroy drug trafficking organizations around the world and bring their leaders to justice.  Today, DEA has disrupted CJNG’s operations, and there is more to come as DEA continues its relentless attack on this remorseless criminal organization.”

“Project Python marks the most comprehensive action to date in the Department of Justice’s campaign to disrupt, dismantle, and ultimately destroy CJNG,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Criminal Division.  “When President Trump signed an Executive Order prioritizing the dismantlement of transnational criminal organizations, the Department of Justice answered the call and took direct aim at CJNG.  We deemed CJNG one of the highest-priority transnational organized crime threats we face.  And with Project Python, we are delivering results in the face of that threat for the American people.”

“The arrests made as a result of Project Python were part of heavily coordinated operation targeting elements of the Jalisco Cartel New Generation (CJNG) in South, Central and East Texas.  The CJNG is a violent drug trafficking organization responsible for the importation of ton quantities of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine across the United States,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Steven S. Whipple.

The Justice Department and its law enforcement partners are committed to fulfilling the President’s Executive Order 13773 to identify, interdict, disrupt and dismantle transnational criminal organizations. The department designated CNJG as one of the top transnational criminal groups targeted as part of carrying out this executive order, and DEA instituted Project Python as part of this ongoing effort.

CJNG is one of the fastest growing transnational criminal organizations in Mexico, and among the most prolific methamphetamine producers in the world. It is responsible for a significant proportion of drugs entering the United States, and elevated levels of violence in Mexico. With methamphetamine abuse and overdose deaths on the rise, Project Python aims to disrupt CJNG’s ability to distribute methamphetamine and other drugs throughout the United States by attacking the group at all levels.

Federal law enforcement has taken a number of steps to degrade CJNG’s ability to operate in the United States. Today, the Justice Department and DEA announced a superseding indictment on charges of alleged continuing criminal enterprise against Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” the undisputed leader of CJNG.

Last month, El Mencho’s son, Ruben Oseguera Gonzalez, also known as “Menchito,” and second in command of CJNG, was extradited from Mexico to the United States on charges of alleged drug trafficking and firearm use in relation to drug trafficking activities.

On Feb. 26, 2020, El Mencho’s daughter, Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez, was arrested in the United States on financial charges related to her alleged criminal violation of the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act.

Additionally, DEA has worked with its interagency partners to apply further pressure to CJNG.  The U.S. Department of Treasury has designated El Mencho as a “specially designated narcotics trafficker” pursuant to the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, and the U.S. Department of State has issued one of the largest narcotics rewards ever – $10 million – for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho.

In our area, 112 indictments have been secured against CJNG associates, and DEA has made 230 arrests and executed 11 search warrants related to Project Python.

The efforts highlighted in the more than 500 arrests nationwide are illustrative of the significant reach the CJNG has in manufacturing, importing, and distributing a wide array of illegal narcotics within the United States and the negative impact on the fabric of our local communities.
The proceeds from the local distribution of these narcotics are repatriated back to Mexico and further fuel transnational organized crime organizations such as the CJNG. The Department of Justice and its law enforcement partners will continue to vigorously fight this scourge against the United States.

    2. All cartels send their product through all plaza crossings, they pay a fee or piso to do so, you dont put all your eggs in one basket. Sicarios escorting loads through to plaza crossings have no idea who supplied the drugs. To any cartel it doesnt matter whose product is moving through their plaza, as long as they pay piso to do so. If they try and sneak a load through without paying, the cartel with the plaza steal the load or give it up to law enforcement in Mexico as part of a deal for their protection payments

  21. Mencho thought he had the biggest and baddest cartel. Mench doesnt get it. The DEA/CIA are the fox in the hen's house. The DEA/CIA can make many many mistakes and win. Mencho can't afford to make one mistake otherwise he risk's being captured or killed. The life of a narco is always being on the run because the DEA/CIA are always after you. Not worth it. Many mench will find that out in the afterlife.

    1. You realize the prisons don’t just make license plates like in movies right? They make a multitude of expensive things such as parts to missiles for the US military. So actually there is a lot of money being MADE not spent on prisoners. It’s slave labor the merchandise isn’t sold for cheaper because the workers are paid $1 a day if that. So people are making $ hand over fist from PRISONERS. I’m not into the whole everybody is sheep thing but your just following what the leader said like a sheep.

  28. When an arrest is made on an unrelated case and the suspect turns into a C.I., they usually include that arrest as a stat if it is later connected to a CJNG investigation. There are plenty of those.

These arrests do not harm the organization at all. Higher Numbers/stats connected to cartels mean more funding for OCDETF funds for investigations . Those numbers are overinflated for the press and funding and are NOT the end of a cartel.

I applaud the hard work of these guys and god bless them. But the real intel and numbers the DEA reports is under reported, and what the info and evidence they have is way beyond what you think.

  31. I have seen countless pictures, videos, and journalistic reports on members of narco-cartels. My impressions are that they are NOT as smart as they think. Sure, they make many millions of dollars from their criminal and quasi-quasi-legal money laundering activities...

These kinds of successes have more to do with homicidal power and does NOT necessarily mean high "IQs" or good educations.

A fatal flaw of most criminals is that the think they are smarter than law enforcement. Their hubris makes them think others are "dumb" or that people in their employ them must be watched and controlled because they are pendejos. One related spin off of such people is "functional paranoia" which is designed to protect them from harm...BUT is actually their fatal flaw.

Today, with high tech surveillance technology, LE agents have methods, tools, and resources to know much more about a person than even God knows. I kid you not!

LE (cops) are now well beyond using snitches (CI) and sound, pictures, and videos on criminals and their network of associates. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can virtually predict when a person will eat, have sex, do business, and go to the toilet. This AI technology can even suggest explicit strategies and practical plans to optimize meeting certain goals.

If I were counseling young "at risk" youths ...I would drum it into their heads ...that they do not stand a chance of avoiding dire consequences in a life of crime... Maybe in corrupt Mexico, but not in the modern Western world and certain Asian nations).

Finally, IMO, Big Brother is now a reality for criminals and associates of criminal.'

In veracruz the plaza leader of that group got killed by the mexican armed forces. In cancun they capture 9 of them days ago. El grupo sombra also got hit as well in veracruz. 7 of them got capture. La union tepito just got hit hours ago. In leon guanajuato 12 criminals got detain. Idk if their cartel related. Yesterday they capture 4 teens that are related to the roadblocks that happen the day before yesterday.

By the way. Tamaulipas has managed to restored order. The kidnappings has been low to 80%. Their has been gunfights but not that big.

If mencho gets caught Mexico will hit an all time high in killings, cjng took too many strategic PLAZAS and many crews joined their ranks all over 🇲🇽, jalisco, veracruz, nayarit, Tijuana, michoacan, morelos and other states will fight for control or try going independent against cjng. just watch...
