Nearly 2,000 kg of Marijuana Heading to Tamaulipas Seized in Michoacán/Guanajuato Border

"MX" for Borderland Beat

The marijuana was hidden in boxes
Members of the National Guard and the Mexican Army seized approximately 1,638 kg (3,611 lbs) of marijuana hidden inside two vehicles. The seizure occurred in Pénjamo, a municipality in Guanajuato that borders Michoacán. Four people were arrested in the operation. According to security forces, the marijuana had a market value of over MXN$3,193,444 (US$136,364).

The vehicles were coming from the state of Nayarit and were heading to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, a city in northeastern Mexico and considered a stronghold of the Gulf Cartel. Nayarit is about a 14-hour drive from Matamoros. As they drove through a highway that connects Pénjamo with the Michoacán municipality of La Piedad, they were stopped at a law enforcement checkpoint for a traffic violation. Both drivers were not wearing their seat belts.

Authorities noticed the vehicle and drivers were suspicious and proceeded to do an inspection. The drugs they found were placed in 134 packages inside several boxes. About MXN$40,000 (US$1,708) were seized as well.

The suspects were placed under federal jurisdiction. The seizure is part of the security campaign National Plan of Peace and Security (Plan Nacional de Paz y Seguridad) and the addiction prevention campaign Together for Peace (Juntos por la Paz) that started under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Background
Marijuana production in the U.S. continues to grow every year, but a lot of the marijuana consumed in the U.S. is still produced outside of the country.

In Mexico, marijuana production is primarily centered in the following states: Sinaloa, Jalisco, Chihuahua, Durango, Guerrero, Michoacán, Guanajuato and Nayarit. This last state is where the drivers were coming from.
Distance between Nayarit and Matamoros, Tamaulipas (nearly a 14-hour drive)
Nayarit has been a strategic corridor for drug cartels planning to move merchandise north. In a country torn apart by drug-violence, Nayarit has traditionally been the exception.

The reduced drug-related murders in the state have been widely praised in the past, but others have suggested that they may be a sign that Nayarit is colluded with organized crime. Their state attorney, Edgar Veytia, was arrested in San Diego in 2017 for drug trafficking.

Note: For better readability, the sources were linked in the body paragraphs above. Some of the sources inadvertently stated that Pénjamo is in Michoacán. It is in Guanajuato.

    3. Marro doesnt own Michoacan but he is being helped or at least being sheltered by the Michoacan cartels somewhere near the areas of Maravatio and Zitacuaro. That whole area by La Piedad-Penjamo area is really close to Jalisco and is controlled by CJNG. There was talks of "Grupo Sombra" (part of or once part of Los Golfos) helping out Marro and CSRL.

  11. Cjng has little to no presence in michoacan anymore. Carteles Unidos have made unbreakable pacts with governments and law enforcement and they're being helped fight off the last remnants of CJNG, only strong visible armed groups are chito Cano people and el Maguey and los 5 del pueblo. But even they are surrounded by Carteles Unidos. Mencho lost this front, and now with Marro under the carteles unidos banner CJNG with be out of guanajuato soon. Michoacan Guerrero and guanajuato are all carteles unidos, viagras lnfm, f.m

    1. Marro lost Guanajuato bro.. where you been? So I doubt you KNOW ANYTHING about michoacan..

    2. CJNG is deep in Guanajuato El Marro only has Celaya and the towns surrounding it like Villagran, Santa Cruz de Juevention Rosas, Confort, Apaseo el alto, Salva Tierra.

Carteles Unidos is winning in Michocan that is true with Los Chocomiles del Abuelo taking Menchos cocaine route and being Chapulines allying with the Viagras they lost Coalcoman, Tepaltepec, Los Reyes, Periban, La Costa de Michocan, Zamora, The Templarios doing the same they lost Paracuaro and Lazaro Cardenas.

The Chocomiles have the Support of the 65 Battalion based in Coalcoman, Viagras have the Battalion based in Aguillila, the templarios have the Support of the battalion based in Apatzingan, The Viagras and Chocomiles have the support of the Polcia Michocana and the SEMAR. You could go on google maps street view and look at Pinzandaro their are 20 or so State Police protecting the Viagras. Then the Guardia National is supporting the Carteles Unidos. The 34 Battalion in Altamirano is supporting the Familia Michocana all the people you see captured in FM de Guerrero videos were captured by the 34 battalion and handed over to the FM de Guerrero.

Unless el peje does what Calderon/Pena Nieto did to the Beltran Leyva Cartel that isn't going to happen CJNG will stay in Guanajuato. When they are done there they are going to hit Michocan from the North, East and South-East. From Colima, Jalisco and Guanajuato, Estado De Mexico they are going to come in heavy.

El Peje wants Morena to control the country for a while that is why he is providing support to the Carteles Unidos the majority of the candidates in their territories are from Morena. Like I said in other comments Mencho and El 3 are incompetent Los Cunis were the brain behind the machine the Americans put pressure and they were all captured they ordered them Captured. Even with their brains they didn't expect to get captured what idiots.

    3. Cjng owns Morelia and dont forget el migueladas has the Nueva Italia area

      Delete
    4. You can probably count the CJNG plaza bosses in michoacan with one hand. Even with Migueladas it's an uphill battle for CJNG, viagras have bought off all michoacan politicians with the exception of a few but nonetheless all CJNG is surrounded in michoacan.

      @244
Marro hasnt lost shit but a couple of plaza bosses. The government and carteles unidos will only strengthen Marro while he still operates in the state and he'll regain everything that was lost. Mencho losing all fronts. Sooner or later he will become the next TUTA chased by enemies and law enforcement.

      Delete
    5. Viagras are sending reinforcements from Guerrero and michoacan to guanajuato(if government and CJNG couldn't stop marro together I dont think now with the cartelesunidos help they will). Cjng being attacked from all fronts. I wouldnt blame their sicarios for stepping down they're fighting and unwinnable war.

  17. The reduced rate murders in Nayarit comes straight from the victims of governor rodolfo sandoval and his fiscal del inferno edgar veytia, disposessing people, forcing them to sell their land for cheap or get killed, disappeared, imprisoned for defying the "AUTHORITY of the state" invested in sandoval and veytia sure worked to keep shit secret and quiet, not that it ended with the new governor and co.

  19. I know people who rather smoke this stuff than the sh!t they sell in dispensaries, different high... Plus that shit DOESN'T even smell like weed when people smoke it.. All those CHEMICALS added.. I would NO touch THAT.. I'm in my late 30's..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You do know that all that stuff at dispensaries is tested. For chemicals to mold. The only people that prefer to smoke that is those that can't afford the good stuff.

      Delete
    2. 9:25 dirt, mold, spiderwebs, fly caca and garrapatas are the real high from natural organic free range weed, dispensaries charge 10 times more just to pay city hall, but have no good product, they are rip off rapists.

      Delete
    3. You hang out with enough hippies and you'll find the best organic stuff available. The best weed is not available in dispensaries, just the most expensive, it's still good though.
