For years, the modus operandi of the Sinaloa Cartel was to build tunnels to transport drugs from Mexico to the United States. But the fall of El Chapo Guzmán has not deterred the dynasty of this criminal organization.
A Milenio Noticias investigation with reports from Customs and Border Protection, the agency dedicated to customs control for the United States, say that since the arrest of El Chapo in 2016, tunnels have continued to be found on the border.
We are talking about 35 tunnels in cities that the DEA considers controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel such as Tijuana, Mexicali, and Nogales. Just 10 days ago the CBP and the US Department of Homeland Security detected another tunnel.
This tunnel passed underneath the border crossing between Nogales, Sonora and Rio Rico, Arizona. On December 5, another was discovered in that same city. In 2019 alone, 5 tunnels that traveled from one country to another were built and discovered.
According to data from the US Department of Homeland Security since 1990, 125 tunnels have been discovered.
And to deal with this situation the Department of Homeland Security commissioned a group of US Army engineers for the designing of technology to detect the tunnels. For this, 2 million dollars were approved.

DeleteI would think that cartels use the same strategy as moving loads in cars as they do in tunnels. Dig small tunnels and tip off authorities about their whereabouts while the large and more hidden one pushes loads through while the cops are distracted. They've obviously perfected the construction of tunnels to point they can make them deeper and longer than the cops realize. Anyone here know the geology of the area and water table? Is their a water table in the desert?
