So when did North Korea become a player in the blue meth trade?

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat  TY BB Reader Pri-Org-Stories

If you've ever seen the TV show "Breaking Bad," you know how a background in chemistry can come in handy in the illegal production of crystal meth.
That's not just fiction, as Isaac Stone Fish, associate editor at Foreign Policy, confirms when he describes how North Korea became a major meth producer.
"A devastating famine destroyed North Korea's social fabric in the 90s," Fish says. "After that, a  lot of out-of-work, or underemployed, chemists and other scientists in the eastern city of Hamhung were looking for new ways to feed their families, and they stumbled on crystal meth as a solution."
Some of that meth is consumed in North Korea. People reportedly use it for medicinal purposes — and even to fend off starvation.
However, most North Korean meth is smuggled out through China. And who knows where it goes from there.
Just last week, five men were arrested in Thailand, for plotting to sell North Korean meth in New York City.
The men were flown to Manhattan for prosecution, but few details in the case have been revealed.
“All we know is what one of the ringleaders said,” says Fish. "But it’s the first example of North Korean meth sold in such large quantities appearing internationally that he’s heard about.”
So why ship it halfway around the world when there are more than enough meth labs in the US already?
Fish says according to the suspects, "they have made so-called blue crystal meth, Walter White quality so to speak, 99 percent pure.”
With that quality, it could be worth moving it from China to the US, says Fish. And, as with global trade, sometimes it’s easier and cheaper to move something from China to New York than from New Mexico.
Fish recently had the chance to bring this up with a North Korean defector, who told him that crystal meth is generally smuggled in small quantities because the Chinese frown upon this trade. If it is sent in larger amounts, then it's done with military or government support, Fish learned from the defector.

    4. @7:09. You somehow managed to write a comment immeasurably more stupid than the one you were commenting on.

    5. 8:44 Not being "shit" is sometimes a good thing, specially when being some superior thing that has flourished for so long from all the colonial BS and slavery.
Irregardless of our politicians in government and business, no thanks to them, specially the Specialist Russian Puppets and their enablers, mouthpieces, and sputnik satellites

    2. This guy is probably going to work for the government. You can tell by how they treated his case. They used him to set up his workers when it's usually the other way around, you try and climb up the ladder, not down. A lot his stuff is sealed. Crazy if he does turn out to be the one responsible for Bitcoin. Very intelligent individual.

    4. @9:15.. That's often how it works. If they get a boss to flip they get not only the entire organization but all the partner organizations as well.

  3. I said it on the other post and I'll say it here. Any color is an impurity. The blue is a sales gimmick. It can still be 96/98% but the blue is an impurity will not make meth any better.

    4. Dude thatthat blue colouring doesn't need to be 0.001 % in that glass-like crystal matter. It makes it recognisable.

    5. actually color is added to create colors

    6. @9:58 it's all Methamphetamine but there is a difference in purity. Ice is the purest and speeds not so pure. Even ecstasy is a derivative of meth. The MA in MDMA stands for methamphetamine.

@8:58 the only reason I said it was because someone, maybe you! Said it's some super meth like it's supposed to be 100% pure. However any color in the crystal is an impurity or added for quick sale. People will fall for it mostly because of Breaking Bad but even his meth wasn't 100%... Whether it it's a reaction or added its an impurity.
I agree with you, it's a horrible drug regardless of color. It's sad what people turn into when hooked, I have a few close friends who I have tried to help endlessly but I've had no such luck.

    7. What is the use of purity?
It still gets downgraded to make more profit from selling it huachicoliada,
pinches pendejos, in their misery come to believe every little piece of BS is sacred, stick your meth up the ass for a pure higher high.
The North Koreans were printing better quality 100 dollar bills than the US for a long time, probably other currency too, printers from france and the US were never in short supply, they also have commercial deals with many other countries and their Mexican Embassy got relocated, to Cuba, I believe, to keep the US in the Mexican government pocket, while the US ambassadors work their own private personal Back Channel Diplomacy" in secret with Maduro to try and steal the Venezuelan oil for a few more centuries...
All for personal profit, "the beautiful letters" from the Little North Korean Rocket man are not free either.

  4. I cant see the mexican drug cartels setting up shop in north korea to cut into their meth trade! That little fat dictator would execute them on the spot no questions asked or trial either!

    1. BHahahhaahah. I don't even know where to begin. Firstly we literally made them smoke opium at the barrel of cannons and secondly the US eats drugs by the PamaMax load. Really?

    2. 8:50 but now the chinese are getting even, thanks to the US investors that laundered their iran/contra drug trafficking profits by acquiring and shipping complete US industries to China to make good use of all their captive cheap communist labor.
Do you even imagine how much the US owes them?.
That is a good ass kicking you got when you owe 30 trillion dollars
and have NOTHING to show for it...

  6. NK being involved in the drug (meth) trade is not breaking news. Along with meth, I would be shocked if they’re not making and shipping fent as well. To them, it would be a win win. Create havoc nd death in US while making money hand over fist. Can’t see them not wanting to exploit opioid crisis.

Making meth or any drug blue, is like Marv leaving the sink running in every house him and Pesci robbed in home alone
