The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) froze the accounts and has opened an investigation against Genaro García Luna, former director of the Federal Research Agency (AFI) with former presidents Vicente Fox and secretary of public security for Felipe Calderón, the head of that organization, Santiago Nieto Castillo, reported this day.

Nieto Castillo was interviewed on Wednesday morning upon his arrival at the National Palace, where he was present at the morning conference.

In addition, he revealed that the FIU carries out an investigation against the former official arrested last Monday in US territory for allegedly having received millionaire bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel, although the news was released only yesterday.

During the years 2001 and 2006, during the six-year term of Vicente Fox, Genaro García Luna was appointed head of the former Federal Research Agency (AFI); however, the former PAN President has said nothing about the arrest of his collaborator.

Fox's silence on Twitter stands out because he is regular very vocal on that social media platform, and almost daily publishes tweets, especially against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador or Morena, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Calderon tweeted twice yesterday about the arrest, attempting to distance himself from García Luna.

    1. When were politicians ever honest? This isn’t unique to Mexico or the U.S. at all. There is corruption in politics in just about every country. Power corrupts.

    2. No. never was. Never will be. Power corrupts but more importantly power is easily corruptible. popularity is the goal and it isn't cheap to promote yourself thus the gift horse is rarely looked in The mouth .

  6. Vincente Fox is worried due his role as well. Why else would he remain silent. If anything putting a legal defense team to divert any collusion.
Moreover, pretty sure many more government officials are doing the same.
The perfect storm against those corruption officials.

    1. Like many here and abroad's political theater. Its pay to play worldwide. I have witnessed this time & time again when it comes to lucrative contracts.

A corrupt system that enriches many people and neglect its obligations and responsibilities of its constituents.
Can assure you; remorse will be of those forfeitures. Not that of its moral conscience.

    1. No it’s the president cutting heads from the top. He’s said it from the start. Politicians have made Mexico what it is a mess. It’s kind of like taking a spoiled kids habits away. There will be tantrums all the way. That’s why I keep saying AMLO will not get everything the way it needs to be. It will take few presidents. PriPan will continue to move their connections and create chaos. Once a person gets the “hueso” as they call it. Then they are set and sometimes generations to come are set. Imagine all the bad hombres and señoras that have come out of over 70 yrs of bull s***.

I finally know why my family migrated. “ This is not going no where good it will bust and you or your kids must not be around here.” Some very wise words from a loved person in our lifes in the 80’s. Dgo

  9. Calderón. Yeah, none of those bribes got kicked up to him, I’m sure. He cut the heads off many snakes only to have dozens more replace them. The power vacuums he created were the cause of countless lives being lost and many many more left scarred and traumatized with the loss of loved ones. He was the real snake. Lock em both up under the ADX. EPN and Fox too

  10. The real Mexican Cartel running nervous now. Government corruption is the real problem in Mexico. Funny how right away other politicians say,Just cause one was corrupt doesn't mean we all are. LOL. Yet you have this guy, governors of several states, mayors ect.. getting caught.

    1. All the way to the top.
What will be disappointing is that Salinas enriched his fortunes by those same principles. Yet his economic growth and power will never be revealed. Nor touched.

      Something to ponder on

  11. A lot of politicians are shitting bricks. Trump has a bone against Fox. I wouldn't be surprised if trump himself is pushing the feds to spook Luna and make him incriminate Fox in something. I bet Fox hasn't slept well these last few nights.

  12. Yep pretty sure its coming from Trump. Mex practically begged Trump not to designate cartels as terrorist organizations becuase it would cause the mex government to turn against the hands that feeds them or face bigger penalties than the cartel kickbacks they receive.

    1. Como on it’s not so easy. It doesn’t just mean come in take them out and you’re out. Laws have to be changed. There’s loop holes and politics have used them for many years. Like a president can’t be punished for any wrong doing doing on his term. AMLO is trying to pass many of this laws and the old greedy Pri-Pan are pissed off. Saying stuff like AMLO is turning us into a communist country. I haven’t seen anything yet which says so. He has been more transparent than any president in my time. Which is why I’m saying it’s not so easy. USA comes in. Takes out bad guys, some good, some casualties and will eventually say your country is full of rotten people in the government. Must take control of your oil, silver, iron, lumber, any resorts banks , gold etc.... not good for any country who really has the means to prosper. Mexico needs change but from the top. Transparency but will take time and definitely many innocent lifes will be the cost all due to greedy politics that had plans for their future blood and now run the risk of loosing everything if people like AMLO aren’t stopped. Dgo

    2. This is exactly why... they folded because if they didnt do something it was coming. The terrorist designation would mean A LOT of people would go down and theh know. The designation is coming at some point. Trump is serious about this kind of stuff.

  17. It was Fox that infamously said Mexico wouldn't pay for the fuckin wall right? I went to Hermosillo and frequently enough to Nogales that my government has flagged my passport for constant questioning - the bottlenecking at the border towns, the albuerquas overflowing, Grupo Beta exhausted and angry, checkpoints forcing migrants off highways into deadly turf wars an d onto onto that fucking train, what social economic programs that exist are thoroughly tapped out. the recently and abruptly deported begging for pesos to take busses back to countries they left as children. Not even fluent in Spanish Barely an accent in their English... vulnerable and how will they reassimilate, how will they make their living? Then AMLO does whatever Trump wants to avoid tarriffs but demanding 100% of tomatoes be inspected, that's not as good as a tarriffs? Now the terrorist designation.... I'm sorry Senor Fox, but Mexico is paying for that fucking wall.
