Volunteer searchers now say they found  bodies in a shallow pit in the desert near the Mexican resort town of Puerto Peñasco. [The group announced official total of 42]

Ahora Noticias Peñasco reports that the bodies were found in the desert near the oyster farms that are northeast of Las Conchas.

Twelve skeletons and one decomposed body were originally discovered Thursday.

Prosecutors in the northern border state of Sonora said late Thursday that two of the bodies may be women. Tests are being conducted to determine the gender and identity of the bodies.

Prosecutors said only one of the bodies was relatively recent; the others were "complete skeletons with clothing."

The bodies were found by a group of women known as the Searchers of Puerto Peñasco. The group is made up of relatives of missing people who investigate reports of clandestine burial sites.

The group reported that the bodies were found in a post on their Facebook page.

Because of deficient police investigations, such volunteer groups have been responsible for discovering mass graves and burial pits in many parts of Mexico.

Drug and kidnapping gangs use such pits to dispose of the bodies of victims or rivals.

Puerto Peñasco is also known as Rocky Point. It is located on the Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez.

While not as violent as some other parts of Mexico, Puerto Peñasco has been known for Sinaloa drug cartel activity and a large-scale shootout between cartel gunmen and military forces occurred there in 2013.

  5. You don’t have this happening every day like you do in Messico.

They have found hundreds of mass dumping sights for their murders.

Mexico, a government for the cartels by the cartels.

  6. This is a great spot to hide bodies. There is nothing out there but sand. Just like Vegas when the mafia hid bodies out in the vast desert

  7. So sad, for Rocky Point and for the victims especially the families. I enjoy the beaches and the weather when in town but that is crazy and scary.

    1. Your view on things can become distorted depending on what you feed your mind. If all you do is follow Mexican Narco News then you will start yo believe that 90% of the people in Mexico deal with this type of stuff on a daily basis.

  10. When he's not writing poems, most people are unaware of the fact that AMLO is a forensic pathologist (a great one I might add). He's already been able to determine that these unfortunates died of natural causes.

    1. What are you doing to help? Are you out in the trenches helping to find these missing people? What degrees do you hold that qualify you for the job of president of mexico... let us know what your plan to save the country is, keep in mind that battling the cartels isn't Mexico's only problem.

    3. @12;12

Maybe if the Americans weren't comprised 90% of the time by Mexico's corruption. Mexico would be safer. So truth to your question: America is fighting these cartels almost solely. Mexico's political/judicial system prefers to release these individuals. Rather, cuddle them while thousands keep dying.

    4. @4:39 90% of the time? Really? What Americans are you talking. Maybe its 90% of the people that come to this website that are emotionally affected by what they read here, but, To say 90% of Americans is a pretty ignorant statement. I would say 90% of Americans aren't affected by what happens inside of Mexico. So stop exaggerating and distorting the information you clown.

  15. This would be interesting for translation. Looks like a hodgepodge of Palo Mayombe and Baphomet worship. Kinda reminiscent of the Adolfo Constanzo alters they found at that farm in Matamoros many years ago.

  16. puerto peñasco is a resort graveyard

  17. This should be a very big story but it's not getting much media attention, why? Puerto Penasco, aka. Rocky Point, is only 60 miles from US border, populated by many Americans who have vacation homes and rental properties. Economy thrust based. CDS controls the plaza, makes money selling drugs to American tourists and has a lock down on local media. It is also a transhipment point for drugs bound for USA. This story will be barely noticed even though it's a really heinous occurrence. I know the players, these graves are people killed by CDS in the local area.

    1. Yes it is a tourist based economy, don't want to scare away American tourist money.

    3. Also CDS cleans Rocky Point from people causing trouble like thieves and druggies (seen it with my own eyes) to have a fake sense of security for the gringos. Gringos bring $$$$$ and that means keep the town under control. Sad but true

google it to find updated info

    1. hundreds of families were in line in penasco a couple days ago to do DNA tests and hopefully receive news many thousands of families all over mex will never hear of. Penasco is a very calm place when it comes to tourists visiting or just locals who like to party and cruise through malecon and calle 13 late nights. Then again the bad ones walk by you everyday and you do not even know it.
