Murderer of Award Winning Photographer Indicted in Guerrero, He Belonged to a Gang of Car Thieves

Erick Castillo Sánchez, a Discovery collaborator , was a lover of dogs, music, movies and reading. On September 11, in the state of Guerrero, he was attacked and killed.

The Guerrero Prosecutor confirmed that his killer belongs to a band of roba-coches , ie car thieves, that operates in the Diamond Zone of Acapulco.

The State Attorney General, Jorge Zuriel de los Santos Barrila, confirmed the arrest of Miguel Ángel "N" as likely responsible for the murder of international photographer Erik Alejandro "N" , which occurred on September 11 in the parking lot from an Oxxo convenience store in the area of ​​La Bonfil in Acapulco.

In a press conference, De Los Santos Barrila said that the alleged murderer was arrested in an operation in the Las Torres neighborhood, in the municipality of Chilpancingo, where he met with ministerial police, who eventually captured him.

"The detainee was in possession of a white Chevrolet truck with a report of theft, a long gun type rifle known as AR15 .223 caliber, ten caps corresponding to the weapon that was secured to the accused, in addition to three kilograms of green grass with the characteristics of marijuana, " he said.

The prosecutor indicated that the alleged murderer was placed at the disposal of the corresponding public ministry, together with the insured firearm, and explained that when conducting ballistics surveys it was determined that the cap found at the photographer's place of murder was percussed by the same firearm that was confiscated from Miguel Angel "N".

He asserted that, according to the data in the investigation folder, the accused meets the similar physical characteristics of the person who deprived the photographer of the life, made known by witnesses to the murder.

In addition, he said that Miguel Ángel "N" is part of a band of car thieves (roba-coches) in the Diamond area of ​​Acapulco and with other people they are related to at least five investigation folders, all for the crime of theft of vehicles with violence and in the same area of ​​the port city of Acapulco.

The state prosecutor added that they have already located the other members of this band that operates in La Bonfil and are already working to stop them as soon as possible, and they can be tried for the murder of the international photographer, Erick Alejandro, whose work includes the Discovery Channel and National Geographic.

Erick's wife witnessed her husbands death, they were taking a few days off after he had completed work on a project near Acapulco, Guerrero.

Castillo Sánchez traveled several kilometers to take photographs and make documentaries. He won awards since the beginning of the century. Among the works that Castillo Sánchez made is a documentary entitled "De Tenancingo to New York" , which addresses the issue of human trafficking.

Castillo Sánchez was attacked when he was with his wife on the periphery of the store in Guerrero. He was attacked during his vacation. According to national media information, he was shot in the head.

    1. The prosecutor might have been under pressure not to link officials already in the spotlight with traffickers, so car theft is a way to tell the truth (cos they might have been involved in that business) without killing his career.
