El Bukanas: head of the huachicoleros and his macabre alliance with Los Zetas

Roberto de los Santos de Jesus, aka El Bukanas, is one of the most wanted huachicolero leaders in the country, for whom a reward of 5 million pesos is offered. Before El Bukanas had that title, the main figure of the theft of fuel was José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, El Marro

Bukanas has been linked to Los Zetas since 2014, the date on which their illegal acts were uncovered. During an operation in Veracruz, authorities found a ranch training hired assassins in Sierra de Agua, in Cumbres de Acultzingo

On that occasion, several apprentices between 15 and 25 years old were apprehended, who had been trained to use weapons, paddle their victims and to torture in wastewater and punishment cells.

On that occasion, El Bukanas fled and continued his operations in Veracruz and Puebla, mainly. He is currently the leader of the Sangre Nueva Zeta criminal group, which disputes control of the so-called Red Triangle with the Jalisco Cartel Nueva Generación (CJNG).

It is claimed that El Bukanas lives in the mountains of Veracruz, on the border with Puebla. Due to the price drop of the huachicol, the criminal association of El Bukanas would have dabbled into kidnapping, extortion and looting of cargo vehicles.

One of the rivalries held by El Bukanas and its group Sangre Nueva Zeta is that which exists with his ex ally Antonio Martínez Fuentes, alias El Toñín, who is related to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and also operates as a huachicolero

On June 21, 2017 there was a confrontation between elements of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) with several chupaductos (fuel pipeline suckers) led by El Bukanas and his brother Saúl, aka El Fósil.

The balance of the confrontation was four delinquents dead and several wounded, as well as a dead Marine. The brothers and some criminals managed to escape, after which was reported the kidnapping of a nurse identified as Eusebia López and her partner, Fortino Andrade Martínez, who were kidnapped to cure the wounded.

Five days later, the bodies of both were found handcuffed and with signs of torture.
