CDMX Video: While filming a beer commercial in Azcapotzalco; they come under attack

Sol Pfendido Borderland Beat from Laneta Noticias

Violence and organized crime operate in total impunity, an example is this daylight assault in broad daylight against a team of publicists in El Arenal,  Azcapotzalco .

According to Sopitas, the production staff were victims of the reality that’s being lived in Mexico City and much of the country to be targeted by thieves, who took advantage of the solitude of the area to remove their belongings with a firearm.

El Universal reported that at around 2:10 pm, at least seven producers of a beer brand were carrying out a commercial when at one point two pickpockets appeared on a motor scooter, fired into the air, threatened them and demanded their belongings.

The assault in broad daylight was recorded by one of the security cameras in Mexico City and it shows the way in which these young people tried to record their commercial without imagining that violence would be stalking them.

The newspaper said that the assault lasted almost half an hour and the cost of the stolen amounted to around 2 million pesos, as they took away cell phones, laptops, wallets, video cameras and photographs.

And if things weren’t embarrassing enough for the capitals image of the country, the foreign producers indicated that the elements of the Police arrived at the place of the assault 20 minutes later.

Sopitas reported that the first thing that the uniformed officers of the CDMX Citizen Security Secretariat did was to scold them for recording without permission, which is why they were surprised because they never imagined seeing such a high level of violence.

Millenium News indicated that foreign producers were identified as Joshua Woods and Nicolas Padron, from the United States in addition to the French Clémentine Fusco, Clémentine Tatin and Betina Diss.

The staff of producers explained that they did not warn the authorities about the recording of their commercial because they were just looking for locations and never thought that the violence was at its maximum point.

So far the authorities of Azcapotzalco have not found those responsible for this millionaire theft. Of course, the bad image left by this assault was not lost on anyone.

  1. stupid morons, walking around like tourists. Did they not listen to the local ppl. And what a stupid "tourguide" who allowed them to bring laptops with them.
Even at daylight in cdmx...its still mejico.
And yes, police got their share, 20min to arrive at the scene. You cant walk a 100ft without crossing police in cdmx.

  2. They can have 2 million pesos worth of gear but can't hire one or two armed guards for a few hours. Project Manager definitely got fired from their company.

    1. 11:44AM your so right. When I used to go there for work we always had available a armed driver with an armored car which is not as expensive as you would think. Always kept valuables in the safe at hotel in Polanco. Would never walk around a run down area with that gear without security.

    2. 11:44AM yes indeed!! Anytime my company planned to send any execs to any country in Latin America, we always worked out security and advised them on do s and donts. You can see here they had no brains behind this trip.

    1. 3:19PM so what's your point?

    2. 3:19PM no it actually does not happen everywhere. The incident of the camera crew getting robbed in SF made national headlines across the US because that rarely happens on the pier there in SF. Don't even try to compare crime in mex to US. There is no comparison. I love Mexico but it has a reputation for a reason. This year surpassed Brazil and all other Latin American countries for the murder rate.

    3. 4:06 like i said this can happen any were wasnt comparing crime rate.and the Camera crew that got robbed was in East oakland and not on sf pier.and just to let you know that in East oakland people do got robbed and often.

    4. I agree 4:06; Imagine if any or most of this happened in the US or Canada ,ie citizens going around digging up putrefied corpses or any number of them OR hundreds of human bone fragments.......do not let yourselves become immune to the hideous news that we serve up. We want the world to know: This is NOT normal.—— Yaqui

  5. The term "pickpockets" is incorrect. They are armed robbers.

  6. When they were hijacking cars at the rate of 3 per day here in the Wal-Mart awhile back. The police always showed up very late. I was talking to one of the guy's that washes the cars and he said you could see police driving on the road above and all over, yet it was always about 20 minutes for them to arrive. The police are in way deep with the criminals. I cannot drive on the road that crosses in front of the Wal-mart and a little further everyday without seeing at least 10 of them fleecing drivers for bribes.
