Michoacán/Apatzingán: Alleged CJNG Convoy Through City Causes Shootings

Oaxaqueño for Borderland Beat

Late on Sunday at around 23:00 hrs, presumed shootings between members of CJNG and Los Viagras broke out in the city of Apatzingán. Reportedly, they lasted over two hours up until 01:30 hrs and were spread across various of Apatzingán’s colonias. Local inhabitants reporting the alleged skirmishes distributed self-made videos on WhatsApp in which the bursts of gunfire can be heard. According to a local news outlet, there was a convoy consisting of several cars with the abbreviation “CJNG” on their side and armed men aboard circulating in the city. Despite these reports, authorities, who failed to intervene, have stated that they could neither find evidence of clashes nor potential victims. As a result of that, no number of casualties has officially been reported.

Oaxaqueño Analysis:

What exactly happened in Apatzingán on Sunday night currently remains unclear. The local news outlet which informed about the alleged CJNG convoy also reported that purportedly, the “parading” CJNG sicarios were only shooting in the air. However, this version seems highly unlikely given the length of the shooting and the sequences and high frequency of the bursts of gunfire heard. Furthermore, it is inconceivable that a CJNG convoy could circulate in Apatzingán for such a long time without encountering any form of resistance at the hands of their rivals, Los Viagras. Apatzingán is considered the criminal epicenter of the so-called Tierra Caliente. The most credible version, which is also reported by most Mexican news outlets, is that harsh clashes really took place. Consequently, casualties on both sides are likely. So why there is no number on casualties? Two possible explanations: First, the battling sicarios might have taken their wounded or fallen comrades with them (a known pattern). Or secondly, the casualties are simply not reported given that this would obviously contradict the authorities’ official version, namely, there were no clashes.

In general, Sunday night’s violent encounters are just the latest in a series of clashes in the region between CJNG and Los Viagras. Most prominently, the areas of Apatzingán and Buenavista, which are the strongholds of Los Viagras, have increasingly been the scene of such violent incidents in recent months. It is very hard to determine which of the rivaling criminal groups is gaining the upper hand in this conflict. Nevertheless, CJNG seem to have ramped up their struggle for control over the region in recent time. Consequently, Los Viagras appear to have lost their strong grip over the region they once have had following the demise of the Knights Templar Cartel some years ago.

  1. Do gangs ever actually make progress in taking over territories? More often than not it just seems like they end up in an eternal stalemate.

    1. The Zetas took over a lot of territories very fast, back in their hay days. CDS, too, managed to take Tijuana from the Arellanos and keep it for many years.

      Delete
    2. Tijuana has never been fully controlled by CDS there was a point when they controlled many sections of the big city but those days are long gone and will eventually be history like the AFO

      Delete
    3. Zetas did it by sending men to the frontlines. CDS did it by SNITCHING and paying the government.

    4. No, not eventually. Unfortunately for you. No other cartel will ever invade or fight in Sinaloa, other than sinaloenses. Unlike Tijuana CAFMX has lost control since Ingeniero/Tigrillo days. Ever since Teo/3Letras flipped CDS infiltrated, I know one has been able 2 get rid of them.

    5. So true...... Not cheering for the Arellanos, but Tijuas was nice place to get away to, NOT ANY MORE....... Stupid CHAPO, started a war not just in Tijuas but the whole country..... BLAME DUMB ASS CHAPO FOR THAT...

    6. That’s somewhat true. In the Viagars case it’s just a matter of time before they irradicate them from those areas. Just like they did with the Templar Knights, as a matter a fact some of the Viagras are former Knight or FM that happened to sneak in the Rural Forces that eventually the Viagars came out of. In TJ CDS has always had a presence but it was never their Plaza. I even recall at one point they were paying plaza to get their work in. That has since died out and well now they Akiles bros are getting ran out. By the joint forces of CTNG and what’s left of CAF. Which by the way CTNG are basically former CAF members. I believed it used to be a cell that Teo had, once he got busted they were orphaned ja ja ja.

    10. 5:35 blaming El Chapo for everything is, like, you know?
Retarded, specially when there is so much evidence that some Americans and a lot of Mexican puppets have been involved in all the shit since the 60's, and if you look deeper, since the Chinese arrived in Sinaloa and California, probably to get the ball rolling, the American and the German and the British quarters used to be very famous for their profitable opium dens right in China, and there were other specialties...
--The Opium Wars accuses the British of being the biggest narcos since the 1700's from India to China to the UK and Europe way before El Chapo and El Mayo were born.

    14. There are always cells of opposing cartels in other cartels’ plazas. For example, Los Viagras have people in TJ. Nobody talks about it, but it’s true. They just captured a Viagras cell leader named Jaime Macias (El Aleluyo/Pescador) in Baja California. El Aleluyo was in charge of crossing Viagras’ crystal into the US and procuring weapons and tactical equipment from the US.

Here's the deal, el mas loco, el chango were Zetas for the michoacan area (michoacanos) when Zetas were getting strong they were taxing and taking loads from independent drug sellers in michoacan and trying to take their lands for cultivation. El mas loco and el chango got furious and got all the michoacanos together and formed LFM to fight the Zetas. they announced their fight with a couple Decapitated heads in a night club with a Cartulina (message) against Zetas and they got rid of them quick. That was the first if not 9ne of the first narco messages in Mexico next to decapitated bodies. The familia michoacana was what cjng is today but never reached 5hat point because of Calderon who made the michoacanazo to get rid of LFM. LFM had plans like mencho to make la familia guanajuato, familia jalisco and so on... mencho got that idea from them.. just saying..

  8. Tangible evidence of a failed state. AMLO has failed before he ever got started. This is activity that requires a national address by the government. Absent that it is business as usual except the violence is escalating, not diminishing. Mexico is at an historic low point.

    1. 6:02 AMLO has been in power for 3 months, not enough to even get anything started, but I guess you can tell us how many times you criticized EPN or his congenerates for 100 years of PRIISMO or panismo... With the most despicable results, no mames!

      Delete
    2. I agree. Mexico is a hopeless failed State and AMLO never had a chance... in part because way too many Mexican people are compromised by fear and symbiotic (parasitic) self interests with criminal organizations. To me, what happened to La Nena de Nuevo Laredo is graphically symbolic of the situation today. I still think of her patriotic heroism and the way she died... her head on a computer keyboard on top of a major street monument.

BTW, has anyone polled the "Indios" (indigenous people) about what they think? Basically, they are oppressed invisible victims who have no power or voice in Mexico's situation. Who cares? No mas son indios ignorantes.

IMO: AMLO has never ever had a chance to correct the status quo...nor will he ever despite good intentions. Those who have hope for Mexico will be disappointed yet again. BTW, what ever happened to Dr. Mireles?

--AMLO "failed" to get the presidency because FECAL and epn stole their elections from him, but on the third time the people was not going to stand still, and if AMLO doesn't watch it the motherfackers will get his ass like they did with Madero, Villa, Zapata, Guerrero, Sandino, Goroztieta, Allende, Torrijos and even Manuel Noriega... Madero disbanded the revolutionary armies and kept the corrupt porfirista military in place seeking their approval and their kisses, Vitoriano Huerta promptly conspired with the US ambassador Henry Lane Wilson over alcohol and grifa to end the maderismo and the hijack the revolution, the US had financed it anyways...

    4. AMLO has good intentions to reverse a status quo that has deepened inequality among its citizens.
Like many countries whose citizens far outweigh those elite. Where the basic necessities for living are being monopolized by greed.
American citizens are ot much better shape.
With inflation rates rising and pay increases at a bare minimum expect challenges in Americas upcoming elections. New demographics of voters who are not pleased with government policies. Favoring big companies and corporations for money.

The last clear example were Javier Duarte de Ochoa, his SSP del Estado, Arturo Bermudez zurita, their police arresting the victims and delivering them to "Los Fieles" death squads extorting and murdering and chopping up people by the dozens, with maybe no investigations, but surely with NO RESULTS this FAR, TWO YEARS AFTER THE FALL of la marrana duarte...
--Animal Politico, "Scretario de Seguridad de Duarte sale de prision..." apparently forced disappearances is not a crime that requires preventive prison, according to a judge,
--they documented the disappearances like nazis for gosshakes! Duarte loves clear accounting and to micromanage to make sure nobody steals from him, but we lack smart people to follow up big things like this.

If you ever notice, they start a fight in a plaza but can never keep it. They make an alliance with local cartulinas and eventually they lose the relationship bc the groups are starting to realize that CJNG just uses them and trys to make a power grab but it never happens. Even dumb as CTNG are getting whiped clean by senor Rena and Akiles. Just a matter of time before the CTNG are called GNTC/CDS to the 💯. Unfortunately, all of you still think CJNG have a strong home base.. these fools can't even hold down a plaza for themselves. The whole border is covered by CDS/CDP, CDN and Matamoros gulf, the latter (soon to be led by senor Mayo) since we took out the fools leader in a spectacular bait and switch. Muahh
