Guanajuato: 600 killed during first 2 months of the year

Throw Away for Borderland Beat from Proceso

Guanajuato, Gto .- Nearly 600 people were killed in the first two months of the year in Guanajuato, one of the bloodiest bimestres in recent years in the state.

In addition to the 238 intentional homicides committed in January, between 334 and 343 homicides were recorded in February, the highest figure in more than a decade reached in this month of the year, according to local newspaper records.

Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo said that his security strategy will not change.

The governor reported that on Thursday, 200 Navy marines arrived in the state, mainly in the south of the state, where homicides are unstoppable every day.

This contingent is added to the 280 that were already there.

"We continue to work hard with the federal government. We are ready to continue working with them. Guanajuato is an important state for the country, as the president told us ... ", said the governor in a brief interview during a tour in Valle de Santiago, one of the municipalities that has recorded numerous incidents with shootings and homicides in the last months

Rodriguez Vallejo was insistent that "there is a close collaboration" with the Secretary of Security Alfonso Durazo, as well as the Secretaries of Defense and the Navy as well as the Attorney General of the Republic.

"The objective of the operations that are being carried out jointly by the Public Prosecutor's Office , State Forces and the Navy is to restore peace and tranquility to the Guanajuato people"

  2. Looks like the new governor is taking over and blood and fire is the preferred method.
Governors are traditionally the ones taking over from the old criminals and continuing the criminal enterprises, witness Tamaulipas, michoacan, jalisco, Sonora, morelos, Guerrero, even poor broke ass zacatecas'n, but that is all the monriales

  3. And AMLO says there is a reduction of crime since his inauguration. Like to see him tell that to the family victims.
Criminal organizations will never cease until death by hanging for all those convicted. Why waste bullets for these pieces of shits.

  12. With respect are there estimated statistics where a person can find out the total number of drogistas who have died versus the number of inocentes? And the number of policias, militar? Because of fosas and the disappeared such a list would not even approach being accurate but the continuing tsunami of reported deaths leaves a person numb.

  14. I used to love Leon Guanajuato when it was tourist friendly. Then things changed for the worse throughout Mexico in just one (from circa 1960) generation. Tourism "was" a gold mine for Mexico but depraved acts of violence along with other related evils killed it.

  16. Walked around there with a camera last December... Now I understand why someone followed me I showed him I was aware and only a simple tourist... Do you think it's ok to walk with a camera in "dangerous" areas if I clearly look like a tourist who is aware of what's happening around but don't want to be involved in any way? Muchas gracias.
