"El Contador", Cousin of Osiel Cardenas, arrested

Mexico City .- José Alfredo Cárdenas Martínez, "El Contador", alleged leader of a Gulf Cartel cell operating in Matamoros, Tamaulipas and nephew of Osiel Cárdenas, was arrested in San Luis Potosí.

Cárdenas Martínez is also identified as "Senor Cortez"and had been arrested in February 2018 by marines of the Navy and subsequently released.

Now he must answer under charges of kidnapping and assault, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported.

The Accountant was one of the priority objectives of the "Security and Prosperity" Program, implemented in June 2018 by the Tamaulipas government and seven US Federal Agencies, the Tamaulipas government said.

According to the FGR, the arrest of the alleged criminal leader who also operated in Veracruz was achieved without the use of violence.

    Did I read this right. After arrest he was subsequently released? Surely not. Especially if he was in charge on the tamalipus area. While matamoros hasnt been as hot as reyanosa they have still had their fair share of violence as well. Hoping I read wrong or typo. You know if he was released hes not gonna volunteer to turn himself back in. His ass will have to be physically caught again. CHIVAS can you clarify? Thanks

      Seems like it, but Osiel is coming out real soon. I see a lot of more violence coming for Tamaulipas in the next few years.

    Contador is NOT Cortez. Those 2 are different people.
