A joint drug bust between Australian and U.S. authorities in mid-January resulted in a record 1.7 tons of methamphetamine being seized at Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport.

Customs and Border Protection announced the seizure of the three containers on Thursday, which were intended to be shipped to Australia before being searched on Jan. 11. The containers were filled with speakers "artfully" stuffed with the drugs.

In addition to the 3,810 pounds of meth, the shipment also contained 55.9 pounds of cocaine and 11.5 pounds of heroin. Australian officials said the total street value of the haul was $1.29 billion.

"There's no question that the criminal organization behind this scheme has been dealt a significant blow," Joseph Macias, special agent-in-charge for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles, said in a statement. "Along with our law enforcement partners here and around the world, we continue in a day-to-day battle against the blight of methamphetamine that continues to devastate our communities. Through a collaborative effort -- pooling our information, resources and expertise -- we are keeping this dangerous contraband from reaching our streets and potentially saving lives."

The bust was the largest amount of methamphetamine ever seized in the United States, according to police.

Authorities said six people have been arrested in the scheme -- two Americans and four Australians. The Americans were identified by Australian police as a 52-year-old man and 46-year-old woman living in Woodstock, Victoria.

CBP announced the largest-ever fentanyl bust on Jan. 31. Authorities seized 254 pounds of fentanyl, a powerful opioid, worth about $3.5 million at the Nogales Port of Entry in Arizona.

Just two days later, the Maricopa, Arizona, County Sheriff's Office announced they had seized 3,500 pounds of marijuana and over 220 pounds of meth near Gila Bend when two trucks swerved around a border patrol check and tried to elude authorities in a desert chase.

    4. 10:32 Colima has been mencho's for a long time, the amescuas from colima are with cjng.. there has been mantas from cds that are complaining on how cjng has so much local support.. cds has been trying to get colima but cjng is deep, no chance.. good try although cds fan girl.. cds and cjng are both the dominant cartels in Mexico but cjng took the #1 spot with EPN. Cjng is an international cartel but yet people say cjng cant have big shipments? Man, people here are funny sometimes

    5. Why wouldn’t the Chapitos be able to pull of that load.Meth price is at the lowest price now more than ever. You talking about a pound is 150 dollars in Culiacan so do the math basically the expense part is just crossing it.To all you CJNG fans let’s be real when you actually enter Culiacan to fight then talk shit.CJNG is just there to cover El Mayo come on you think From el Chapo they going to go to El Mencho who just started. While Mayo has years.

    6. 3:01 if Sinaloa was an important plaza cjng would already have been there. All cartels use culiacan for laundering money. Did you forget cjng was once with cds? Just like cds 8s in jalisco, cjng is in Sinaloa.. dont act like Sinaloa is untouchable lol

  4. I wonder whos this was.. australia has a gigantic meth market and prices are very high- but oz' customs are pretty tough to get by afaik- especially something like this- this is a big hit no matter what anyone says about the "other 3 that got by" blah blah- interesting to say the least- and it makes a lot of sense- why send meth to the us, when they can open a totally new lucrative market in oz- and make 3x the price- id put my money on cjng- but im prob wrong

    1. 2:48. Reasonable all you say for higher price in Australia, but why pay twice the price to make in Mexico. Only reason I can believe is the production process was a very big error, the material is missing the charachteristic that USA buyers expect or the Australia people prefer to see “hecho en Mexico” on they cristal.

    2. Somebody somewhere in Mex got a huge surplus production capacity. Once you got the (industrial) lab set up and a reliable supply of precursor it costs little to produce another batch.

I suppose the big question is: where is the lab???

    1. Cjng doesn’t have this much of diverse portfolio let alone the logistics to move that much weight into LA to ship out. CDS is the only cartel that can take this big of a hit without going out of business.

    2. 3:08. I will answer this question always asked of “CDS or JNG” and answer is BOTH. When sicarios fight and kill many to own a plaza they do not own; there are also many, many men who only work for same bosses and who care for only safe route and money. In the end it is a business risks, and what organización makes them pay for route where the managers of CDS, CJNG, Templarios, Rojos and more pay to be on route.
In Australia the Italianos have the money and control.
When CDS owns Navy and only CDS routes come to Mexico then CDS will sell to CDN,CJNG and many investors across Mexico to pay Navy, Peruvians or Columbianos and they only risk what they want to send to Chicago and Toronto. This is why plazas are so valuable because grupos pay millions every day for a safe transportation.

  11. mencha,smencha....no way this is cjng... cant even imagine the size of the the labs to put out almost 4000lbs in one shot? mensa don't even own that kind of real estate... quit believing that it has to CDS or CJNG, if it can only be one of these two, my $ is on cds only because they have the enough cells to be able to produce this much.. and it would have to be all those cells working together to put it out... that's one hell of a load.

IMO they are inflated but I don't think they are as much as some people think...we have tremendous oversight in the U.S.

Can they now blame Aus for their domestic problems ?

  17. If its going to Australia, why not ship it from a port that is controlled by the cartel and not go thru the U.S.?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dude a shipment coming directly from Mex has a much higher prob to be inspected. You see albeit most busts are done thanx to snitching, inspections are performed with statistical tools that identifies loads (e.g. containers) as high/medium/low risk. Makes sense donit?

      Delete
    2. Because, US ports to arouse suspicion like Central/South American ports brah.

      Drugs are bad mmmmmmkay.

    3. Shipments out of Mexico are probably looked at more closely on the Australia side. Stuff from the US, not so much.

      KB

    4. So the cartels had to get 1.7 tons into the US unnoticed to ship it to Australia? Can you say Government?

      Delete
    5. Put that amount into perspective; 1.7 tons is about 3% of all the meth seized last year. Government estimates are between 1 and 10% caught each year. Even assuming a high of 10% seized you're looking at less than 1% of all the meth brought into the US in that single seizure.

The main issue is that our ports and marinas are wide open. Bring stuff in on one boat, and send it out on another. It's the same way a lot of cocaine is brought into Europe. Most likely, they bring it in shipping containers masked as legitimate goods. Sealed cargo is hard to check, there are literally tens of thousands per day in that port (about 25,914 on average for last year, according to port statistics).

  20. Thesw. Are real whole sale prices not shit i gatjered from news. The meth is worth abour $13,335,000.00 thats at $3,500.00 but thats for purchase of 1 not considering a price drop for buying in bulk. The coke $698,750.00 at about $25,000.00 but that is considering it as pure and purchased one at a time buying a few would make price a little lower in some cases and the heroin $230,000.00 if pure about $20,000.00 per pound so whole sale and i would say this is a good estimate this shipment in us was worth about $14,263,750.00 maybe if you cut and broke it all down into 20's you could make 1.7 billion cause even if you 5 times price in Australia it doesnt. Hit the billion mark those are real prices if u dont believe me fuck off
