PUEBLA: 17th Thief Lynched and Burned Alive

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Excelsior

Lynched and burned alive an alleged cellphone thief in Puebla

By: Fernando Pérez Corona
NOTE: Nowhere does it say ALL other lynched criminals were also burned alive.

For having stolen a cell phone and injuring three people in the Central de Abasto de Huixcolotla, Puebla, a man between 25 and 30 years old was lynched and burned alive.

Merchants from the Central de Abasto in the municipality of Huixcolotla beat and killed a man who allegedly assaulted and injured three people and stole cellphones. Vendors then  blocked the federal highway Puebla-Tehuacán to be able to specify the act of justice by their own hand, so the police could not reach to rescue the individual.

The deceased was between 25-30 years of age and was accused of stealing  cell phones in the vicinity of the Central de Abasto. In the end, they sprayed the dead man's body with gasoline and the mob made the decision to set it on fire.

The elements of the municipal police arrived at the point of the crime but the man had already died .

October 18, 2018

Villagers from the Jorge Murad settlement stripped and beat a 25-year-old man to death; they leaving a message with the caption: ''This happened to me because I am a thief''.

In the Jorge Murad colony of the city of Puebla,  a man of about 25 years old died lynched in the early hours of this Thursday , after being accused of stealing in a home.

The enraged neighbors stripped the subject, and then hung him by the hands on a road sign, on the Via Corta to Santa Ana, in front of the Central de Abasto at the entrance to Villa Frontera, where they beat him to death.

Elements of the Municipal Police arrived at the place and found a dead person with a card that said: "This happened to me because I am a thief."

At the end of August the Secretary of Public Security (SSP), Jesus Morales Rodriguez, reported that by then 15 lynchings had been registered in the state , however, he said that 201 people were also rescued from 146 events of this nature.

He noted that these incidents are being recorded almost every day, with a greater presence on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays each week. He acknowledged that they are born of the citizen's frustration due to the lack of justice against criminals.

This is lynching number 17 that is specified in the entity so far in 2018.

  3. Thats what the pheasant's should be doing, to the cartels, harm a villager, shoot them, and set them on fire. Police come asking, say nada.

  4. Reminds me of the short story called " The Lottery", by Shirley Jackson. The jist of the story is 1 person is chosen to be stoned to death once a year. Why would this man get killed for stealing a cell phone? What was the real reason? Did the people that killed him want to kill him? Are they justifying killing him over a materialistic item? When did a cell phone outweighed a person life?

    1. I don't think you understand the situation. Lynch mobs have a holistic identity almost like a huge organism that thinks and acts on its own.

Even individuals within a mob often don't understand what they are doing themselves. Lynch mobs can form "if" a number of elements come togther and then some triggering agent(s) can set it off.

IMO: This topic is very important and should be taught in middle and high school as a basic tool of survival.

  6. That is what happenes when a government does not look out for the people, people eventually take matters into their hands...and rightfully so, might I add.

  7. This is exactly what Mexico needs. The citizens to bond together and me judge, jury and executioner ready to handout justice immediately before all the corrupt police and judges get paid. If there are more that 3 credible witnesses, then trial, judgement and punishment should by sundown.

    3. This is horrible, I understand why this happened, but if they kill one innocent, it is not good.

I remember sitting around a bon fire on the beach about twenty years ago,a British tourist described how he barely escaped a vigilante death. He said he was out in the boondocks and somehow a Mexican guy and his brother had an accident and the younger brother died. The British guy helped the other brother put the body in the back of truck, in orfer to bring the body back to the village. He said it was a long bumpy road back,as a result the body was bruised up. The villagers accusing the Brit of of beating the young man to death. So they locked him up in a shed. In the meantime, outside they were yelling to lynch him. He got out of it with the help of the older brother, somehow. I will never forget that chilling campfire story.

It is better to let ten guilty go than convict one innocent.

  8. Smell like home cooked justice; to bad the punishment grossly outweighs the offense and is so disproportionate to the crime that it is an injustice in and of itself. Mob rule and the tyranny of the majority boils over with a heavy hand because the real criminals are untouchable.

  10. this is a long time common practice in places of puebla and state of Mexico where there is little in the way of government police assistance. remember the story of the falsely accused kidnappers? same thing, they usually burn or hang. it has gone on for many years and no one cares.

this should not be thought of as usual in mainstream mexico. which has their own issues but have a process.

  14. Keep up the barbaric acts mexico. Thats why no one likes you ppl in the usa. And the ppl that kidnapped the 100 caravan migrants you also show how fucking shitty your country is. I dont like trump myself and have plenty of mexican american friends but its hard to argue against closing the border to keep out some of you ppl when barbaric acts being commited on your side. And if any hondurans or salvadorians are reading this dont let your families put themselves in danger walking thru mexico. Its fucking insane and dangerous.

  15. This happens if Police and gob gives a shit about the people.
Why calling the Police, send pictures and videos of criminals if nothing happens.
TJ Police is braging around with their arrests but then they Release them a few days, weeks, months later.
And all The evidence is lost.
How Can that be...so i understand The ppl if they Take the law on their own hand.
I have always meet friendly Mexicans who tried to help and make a just tried to make living in all this chaos. Behave good ans Mexico will be good to You.
