Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat Thank you Lacy! material from Superchannel 12

He said "What are 30 assholes going to do against 30k migrants?"

It began when a Central American migrant was interviewed on video, threatening to Mexicans who are protesting against the caravan.  It is unclear where this took place but most likely in Tijuana Mexico, near the POE with the United States.

He threatened to shoot Mexicans that interfered, saying, “If they want violence, that is what they will see. What are 30 assholes going to do against 30k migrants?” he asked.

He is heard about next in a video posted on social media, after he is kidnapped and is being interrogated.

The Life and Death of a Mexican Hitman

Researching how Mexico can uproot the scourge of organised crime, our Senior Analyst Falko Ernst befriends a doomed hitman on the run from his past. Talking to the sicario in the Michoacán underworld, he learns much about the deadly challenges the new government faces.

It’s 7pm on a Sunday, and night is falling in this Michoacán town. The heat of the day is past, and there’s a pleasant breeze. The first visitors to the park have left for dinner, but many hang around.
Around the park’s outer edges, teenagers stroll in two circular currents.

The boys walk with their friends, in teams of two, three or four. The girls do the same, but in the opposite direction. So the circles intersect, inescapably, again and again. Boys and girls trade shy, longing glances. The lucky few get to hold hands or share a bench, words of affection and maybe a kiss. It’s a teenage ritual, here and in countless municipal parks across Mexico.

"With the support of a canine unit dog a detailed inspection was made to the unit in its luggage area, seats, cabin and it was in the bathroom where the K-9 dog  made a positive alert to discover 19 rectangular packages, wrapped with adhesive tape, which when analyzing its content, contained  a white substance with the characteristics of cocaine. Migrants choose Tijuana POE: Is it because of "sanctuary" and El Chapo not diversifying?

Why is the caravan going all the way to Tijuana to reach the U.S. border? One reason is “El Chapo.”

Last week, after caravan members recuperated for several days at a Mexico City sports complex, they held a vote. The group opted to travel all the way to Tijuana, Mexico’s largest border city, instead of taking a much shorter route toward the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.

So why would they decide to go more than twice as far to reach the U.S. border?

The simplest explanation is that the activist group guiding the caravan, Pueblo Sin Fronteras (People Without Borders), has a strong support network in California, a “sanctuary” state where local officials and courts are more sympathetic to migrants.

Patrick Braxton-Andrew, the 34-year-old Davidson schoolteacher and tutor who was presumed missing for weeks in a remote part of the Mexican state of Chihuahua, is believed to have been murdered by a drug trafficker in that region, according to the state’s top politician.

For 18 confusing, nail-biting days, Patrick Braxton-Andrew’s disappearance — from a tiny, remote north-Mexican town at the bottom of a breathtaking ravine larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon — remained a mystery.

On Thursday, a tragic answer emerged: According to a Facebook post written by his family, Mexican authorities determined that the 34-year-old Davidson man — an algebra and Spanish teacher who thrived on backpacking through Latin America — was killed Oct. 28 by “a criminal organization” in the state of Chihuahua.

The post also indicates, however, that Braxton-Andrew’s body has not yet been recovered, and that police have not yet made any arrests. And, so, large questions remain.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that Patrick died on October 28th,” the family’s Facebook post reads. “The search continues to recover his body so we can bring him back home.”

Details surrounding the killing of; Chapo cousin Juancho, El Guacho and El Güero

Prosecutors described El Chapo as “bloodthirsty, even killing family members”.  That may or may not be true, but this is the story which begins in 2010.

The family member is the cousin of El Chapo, Juan Guzman Rocha aka Juancho.  He was a Sinaloa Cartel enforcer working in the Los Antrax group.

When he was arrested Manuel Fernández Valencia, aka “La Puerca”, confessed to Federal Police that he personally knew El Chapo.

He also told authorities about the death of his son, Marcial, [below] who died on August 29th of 2010 in Culiacán.   It was a case of mistaken identity; the assassins thought Marcial was the son of El Chapo because he was driving a white Ferrari. Alfredo Guzmán drives a Lamborghini of the same color. When the killing happened, it was initially reported in the press as the son of El Chapo.

On February 20, 1943, the Purépecha community of Angahuan watched in astonishment as the earth opened, expelling black smoke from its interior and began giving birth to the Paricutín, the youngest volcano in the world. More than 60 years later, that same Michoacan municipality was the site of another discovery: when digging the land, the police found six men tied, half naked, blindfolded, with their jugular cut. It was September 7, 2006.

The first clandestine grave of the year had just been discovered in that wooded tourist spot, only half an hour from the thriving city of Uruapan. It happened after locals said they saw a luxury van pass by; upon looking, they detected ground that had been removed.

Today prosecutors requested judge Cogan throw out the opening statement of the defense.  Reasons given is that defense strayed from speaking solely about “evidence that will be presented in trial” Judge Cogan reprimanded the defense without throwing out opening statements of the defense.

A point of contention was that Presidents of Mexico were on the cartel payroll.

The prosecution filed a motion overnight demanding that judge Brian M. Cogan strike the entire statement from the record, calling it “rife with impropriety” and based on “blatantly inadmissible hearsay.”  [read that filing below]

Said Lichtman; “This is a case that will require you to dismiss what you were taught to believe in about the way governments work and how they behave he continued  “This is a case which will require you to open your minds to the possibility that government officials at the very highest level can be bribed, can conspire to commit horrible crimes; that American law enforcement agents can also be crooked.”

This peculiar area of northern Baja, Ca is full of small Indigenous Ejidos and the water theft issue is as interesting to me as is the odd cultural aspect of this corner of BC. This is a Zeta Investigative piece. See most interesting link at end. Sadly, as most things Mexican , even water distribution is corrupted.

Dozens of ranches, construction companies and farmers are responsible for the loss of almost 2%  of the water that reaches Baja California, with the complicity of authorities and the Irrigation District.

On the morning of September 15, 2018, a dozen water pipes were installed next to Canal 27 de Enero. Immediately  a small pump was placed and began to fill each of the water trucks with 10,000 liters of the vital liquid.

According to an official of the National Water Commission (Conagua), who preferred to omit his name, the trucks belonged to several companies located in Ejido Cuervos. The ag production was for export and they were occupied irrigating the roads in order to prevent the rise of soil and feces.

The same source indicated that they had to "run" them from the area, as they did not have permission to use the water.

"Jalisco/El Salto: Armed Commando Leaves Three Men Dead"

Oaxaqueño for Borderland Beat

On Monday morning before noon, an armed commando, aboard reportedly two or three vehicles, shot dead three men, allegedly aged between 30 and 35 years. The assassination took place in colonia Lomas del Verde, located in the municipality of El Salto, some 12 kilometres southeast of Guadalajara’s city center and in vicinity of Guadalajara’s international airport. Reports indicate that the victims, who are said to have lived in the area, were talking together in the street before being attacked by the sicarios. Over 30 cartridges of different caliber were found on the crime scene. The attackers, whose exact number remains unclear, fled the scene unidentified.

Oaxaqueño Analysis:

This killing, which bears the hallmarks of a planned and targeted attack, is highly likely to be attributed to the split within CJNG and the ongoing conflict between Mencho (CJNG) and Cholo (Nueva Plaza). Considering that Cholo’s group is said to be dominant in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, including El Salto, and taking into account that the victims have lived in the area, it appears to be likely that the sicarios belonged to Mencho. However, this is just an assumption of me. Let us know what you think in the comment section.

Guanajuato: Murder Rates up 400%

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Excelsior

                                                         The State of Guanajuato:

In the state, intentional homicides have grown up to 400% from January 2015 to September 2018. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Guanajuato (PGJEG) has not been able to solve the crimes perpetrated against their own personnel. They no longer say the crimes committed are considered "not serious"; which was, apparently, their previous stance.

According to an analysis by Mexico Evaluates, called the homicides and huachicol, (fuel theft) the dominant pattern in Guanajuato, only in the first nine months of 2018 there have been 1,947 homicides perpetrated in the state. The organization describes the violence in Guanajuato as"Lethal".

Tijuana: The War of Narcomenudistas

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Zeta

In the streets of Tijuana there is still blood running and it seems to have no end.

Projections by the Attorney General of the State (PGJE) estimate that the year 2018 will close with around 2,500 dead, a historical figure for Baja California.

64% of the crimes in Tijuana have been committed in delegations such as Los Pinos, La Presa, Centro, Sanchez Taboada and San Antonio de los Buenos, where there is a struggle for the control of the plazas for the sale of drugs between members of the  Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and of Sinaloa Cartel. To gain ground, CJNG sells larger doses of crystal meth ( ice ) for the same price, which raised an indiscriminate war. Between the leaders of cells that bring in check to the authority they emphasize Jose Luis Mendoza Armenta ,"El Güero Chompas", Edgar Alejandro Herrera Pardo "El Cayman", Rodolfo López Arellano "El Cabo 30" and Iván Leonardo Peña Peralta "ElTurbo".

The battle between the cells of the cartels for the control of the sale of drugs increases the statistics of homicides, which up to the end of the edition, accounted for 2, 083 victims.

Intentional crimes have been recorded more frequently in the delegations Los Pinos, La Presa, Centro, Sánchez Taboada and San Antonio de los Buenos. Only in those points, so far this year has been deprived of life to one thousand 443 people, 64 percent of all murders committed on this border.
