  1. Funny, there is NO democracy in Mexico. Regardless it it the narcos who rule, preside and run the country. Mexican politics like their judicial system is a FARCE. Arrest, impunity, immunity then release fro any arrest. (funny thing you massacred and murdered over 100 people) your ‘human rights’ were violated so you are free to go. THANK GOD TRUMP IS BRING TROOPS to our borders. Democracy in MExico JEJEJEJEJEJJEJEJEJEJEJE

  2. In the damn world of possibilities ANYTHING is possible.
The thing is that even Mexico and other third world countries take ideas from governments like the U.S., Canada, England among other industrialized nations to reduce the chance of voter fraud during their elections. Yes cartels have an influence in Mexico but labeling the entire electoral system of a country as vulnerable to be breached because like I, had mentioned already "Anything is possible" leads me to beleive there is an alt motive behind the people even bringing this concept to light.
Motives like causing an uprising of people or even invasion by a country like the U.S. in order to "stabilize" the country like the U.S. loves to do with war torn middle eastern countries comes to mind.

    1. @4:36PM I hate to say it but my friend I think you sound like the conspiracy theorist. To charge or allege that one of Mexico's best young thinkers has an alternative motive for organizing an effort to help insure that Mexico will have honest fair election where the elected officials are elected by the honest vote of the people rather than the corrupt actions by the powers that be in order to cause a uprising or invasion by US is a more ridiculous conspiracy theory than most of those floated in the US

In the interview he only touched on the cartels influencing elections. Probably because there is not much he can do about that, But also the attempt to influence elections by the cartels is evident that more than 60 candidates, former and current public officials and political activist have been murdered between Sept. of last year and mid march of this year.

Most of the interview dealt with the dirty tricks, fraud, Buying votes, intimidation and threats by the Power Elite to control elections. You might remember the free TV's, the Soriana debit cards, etc. Remember election night in the 2006 election where TV stations were streaming the election totals as they were being counted, but when AMLO got too far in the lead the computers that were streaming the results crashed. When they came back on line Cardenas was declared the winner. And you think all John Andersons efforts to bring all this to light and doing everything he can to keep it from happening again is part of a conspiracy to cause a revolution or an invasion by the US.

You probably think Obama has a forged birth certificate and was really born in Kenya.

  3. I live in northern Mexico from what i see going on is that mostly everyone is behind AMLO they simply got tired of PRI PAN goverment they screw the people over and over. People want change if Lopez Obrador does not win, all hell is going to break loose trust me. As for him being bad for Mexico i dont think so its time the goverment stops selling our country cheap to foreigners and stealing us blind.

  4. The democratic system has always been at risk from those who wish to undermine democracy itself. Political forces / foes who will not accept change by a set structured system.
Recently listened to an interview with a known political scientist on NPR pertaining this years Mexico’s election.
Hatred and anger is high among voters towards those corrupted practices which continue to engulf Mexico’s country.
Moreover, a predictable win for AMLO.
I can see corruption practices influencing Mexico’s election. With Illegal Campaign contributions that disregard financial campaign laws / rules with fines of $10,000. A slap on the wrist for those who pump millions of dollars to those individuals with political interests.
Laws and oversight need to be implemented for a true democracy. Not a partially correct answer.

--The US is enjoying right now all the liberties Russia can afford to allow without coming in and pleading guilty.
--EPN WON helped by Colombian hackers armed with $50 000.00 usd Russian computer program to hijack the 2012 election,
--Why trust the Mexican electoral shitstem if the US is not safe and is not doing anything to protect itself from interference for 2018 elections?
That THE PEOPLE "ya está hasta la madre", I mean they have had their fill of BS, is an indicator, on the US and in mexico

  7. I sensed the very likable professor was being careful not to get assassinated. He was pleasantly "academic" and really scirted describing how ingrained, multigenerational, systemic political corruption works in Mexico. The criminal world is a big gear in the political gearbox and the professor wisely chose to skirt the importance of this issue. I can't say I blame him.

I am writing from the USA and watch "learned" and polished talking heads on TV who claim expertise in politics. Many of these tipos seem preprogrammed to deliver sauve, scripted, and biased POVs that the unwashed smucks like me are supposed to believe. IMO, We in America are almost as fuked as Mexico about elections So, I am NOT putting down the professor because he knows a lot more "nasty" stuff about Mexico that he can'take reveal, literally on pain of death.

Nice try. In the coming elections, I expect only a few cosmetic changes....To me, Mexico cannot and will not materially change because of elections... it is too intoxicated on hedonism, hatreds, aND the evils from narcotics that curse everywhere. I big part of the Mexican economy now depends on evils of all kinds especially narcotics and the criminal subcultures born from it and that became monsters dictating virtually everything from morn to night.

    1. That professor (ackerman)speakers with great authority and is well versed on the things he speaks about, I like him, for a long time, but I am grossly surprised he is still blaming "the narcos" for anything like corrupt got buying or hijacking the 2018 presidential election,
-!I believe the narcos are with AMLO just like every other disenfranchised mexican, after all, what they got to lose?

  8. All governments are corrupt, and Mexico is no exception. Unfortunately, its corruption is so entrenched it appears to be permanent and that obliterates any chance of a real democracy taking root. When the likes of Manlio Fabio Beltrones, Fidel Herrera Beltran, and Carlos Romero Deschamps are neutered and their heirs disposed of there may be some hope... But don't hold your breath.
