The second series of "El Chapo" on Netflix

Translated by Otis B Fly-Wheel for Borderland Beat from a Proceso report

Subject Matter: Second series of "El Chapo" on Netflix
Recommendation: No prior subject matter knowledge required

Reporter: Columba Vertiz De La Fuente
This 15th of December, Netflix will launch a second fictional series of El Chapo, created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and Carlos Contreras, and produced by Daniel Posada.

It will see Joaquin El Chapo Guzman represented by the Mexican actor Marco de la O in his first escape from prison, and will reveal the key role played by "the corrupt government" to help him rise above the heads of the opposing cartels, according to a statement from the American platform.

The chapters will show the consequences of their search for the leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as the impact that these organizations have on the lives of their closest neighbors, such as their families.

The cast is made up of outstanding actors: Humberto Busto as Lawyer Conrado Sol, Don Sol ( important political figure); Juan Carlos Olivas, El Guero ( Joaquins business partner ); Alejandro Aguilar, Tono (Joaquins main sicario); Rolf Petersen, Ramon (leader of an opposing cartel(Otis: suspect this will be Ramon Arellano Felix); Hernan Romo, Bejamin ( another leader of an opposing cartel).

Diego Vazquez is Ismael, the most trusted partner of Joaquin; Juliette Pardau as Graciela, Joaquin's second wife; Roberto Uscanga is El Arriero and Antonio dela Vega is Arturo BI (brothers and partners of El Chapo; Harold Torres as El Cano, leader of El Emes, Chapos strongest rival this season; Juan Pablo de Santiago as Francisco Sebastian; Laura Osma as Elba, Chapos third wife, and Hector Munoz as Moreno, son of El Chapo.

El Chapo is a co production between Netflix and Univision Story House Entertainment. The first season was successful. This second series is directed by several filmmakers from different countries, such as Ernesto Contreras, Mexico, Carlos Moreno, Colombia, Hammudi Al-Rahmoun, Spain, Daniel and Diego Vega, Peru.

The producer, Daniel Posada has already declared in several media that the third series has already been filmed, where the international power that El Chapo came to be, and his fall, will be seen. Posada also explained that the series is inspired by real events, and to develop the script, they took events from the news collection of Univision Research Department, "but we relied heavily on fiction to tell an interesting story, so some characters are fictitious and others are real".

Each episode is structured like this, mixing reality and some fiction. "Ultimately, its a television series and the main objective is to entertain the audience", said Posada.

The actor who recreates El Chapo comes from theatre. He participated in Cats in New York and Shakespeare plays in England, but his resemblance to the real drug trafficker, imprisoned on January 8th of 2016, and extradited to the United States on January the 19th, is very similar; he is now incarcerated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.

Marco de la O. has confessed that his character has received both positive and negative comments, and because of his resemblance to Guzman Loera, on September the 6th when he arrived at Los Angeles International Airport, California, a state of alert was raised by CBP personnel. " Immigration stopped me", he said.

With respect to the drug trafficker going to sue Netflix and Univision for the series with his name, apparently the producer Posada commented in the middle of this year that there was no such complaint. It was Jose Refugio Rodriguez, Attorney for El Chapo, who announced that they would take legal action against these two companies, because they caused " moral damage to their client".

Later, another set of Lawyers for the drug trafficker, Juan Pablo Badillo, told EFE news agency that the series is "quite good", although "susceptible to be overcome, if it is more trustworthy", and stated that rather than initiate a complaint against the two companies, they intended to enter into a beneficial negotiation on which everyone could agree. "It is preferable for all to sit around a table", he said.

    2. 9:24, My good friend, you are confusing Narcos with El Chapo. You described Narcos. Saludos from Los Angeles. El Nemesis-

    3. Univision's second seasson is over. It was entertainning to say the least. Third seasson is in the works. Don't confuse one thing with another. El senor de los cielos is by telemundo.El chapo by univision which comes under"narcos" in netflicks. Is entertaintmentbased on real events people not a historic documentary.

    4. Are the Emes portraying Los Zetas? If so why did the change the name from Zetas to Emes?

  2. Moral damage to his client? Bahahaha! You gotta have morals for them to be damaged which chapo does not have obviously!

    1. 6:27 acshually, La Chapa has more morals, more of a good head and more huevos than the present fuerzas delictivas of the Mexican government in sinaloa and all over the country.
Consider the way crime and state sponsored terrorism has taken over sinatra since La Chapa, su papá has been out of there, and he used no public or russian funds...
You gotta respect the results if you can't respect the criminal

  3. (Spoilers for anyone that didnt watch on TV.) I didnt like the second season as much as the first. While the first seemed really accurate the second seems to distort things in chapos favor. For example they made arturo look like a nobody when anyone that has read about him knows thats not the case. And they also make it seem like chapo won the wars in juarez and NL and against the BL/AF when we know those wars are still going on to this day. Disappointing to say the least.

    2. Tony Tormenta didn't get killed by Zetas either.

    3. Thats true Arturo looks like chapos assistant in this show. When we all know Arturo was running plazas since 2000 when chapo was still in prison. Arturo was a more experienced narco that never bowed down to chapo.

    5. Yeah second season wasn't as good as the first too much chirujo scenes and inaccuracies like mp getting killed by zetas and Tony tormenta getting shot by lazacano he died in one of the biggest bloodiest shootouts against the government in Mexico's history. Just a novela snob giving his input. Feliz navidad amigos de BB

  4. The real characters of El Chapo
"el Uno" of the GAFES is Manuel Aponte "El Bravo". Los EMES are Los Zetas. "Tono" is "El Cholo Ivan". "Los Avendaño" are the "Arellano Félix" brothers.

    6. Conrado Sol is Genaro Luna.

    7. Cholo ivan didnt appeared in cartel circles until later in real life. The one escorting or protecting chapo in the movie very well could be nacho coronel in real life if the series were depicting true historic facts.

    8. At the end of season 2 El chapo rewards Toño with the Jalisco plaza .He could be Nacho Coronel.but Nacho was a boss not El Chapos bodyguard

    9. How can el uno portray "el bravo " if there's already a "el bravo on the show " lmao I get u tho. Tono sure looks like a young cholo Ivan from his old mugshots who knows.

    2. You should man up and get a job instead of writing mamadas on here on BB and living off of your parents. By the way Escobar and Guzman never liked to work a real job which goes to show what kind of people you look up to

    3. @326 You are wrong Colombians get told what to do by the Mexicans since the U.S is land that belongs to the natives which are the Mexicans. In Michoacan you can go coca plants and poppy plants. The Mexicans are everywhere and have a worldwide market.

  11. Hopefully in the next season they put his ass in jail and crying like a little bitch cuz he cannot even get a book to read. Show him like the fuckin retard he is becoming because he is in isolation instead of a fuckin 5 star hotel he wants and expects simply because he is a big shot dope drealer.

    1. Unless you've been where he's been in a prison, you need to shut up. A book is something good, and without them, life isn't easy. Especially in the hole.

  12. the show sucks. there is no depth to the story or any character development. it seems that the creators just read the wikipedia page and added very bland dialogue.

  13. I finished watching both seasons, I enjoyed it. But a lot of main players were left out.
M1 and his fued with Arturo Beltran
    El Azul never portrayed
Javier Torres and his fued with AFO
El Mayo was always portrayed as an impetent compadre who needed Chapo for everything and not as a CDS boss. I find it hard to believe Mayo was patrolling the plazas and in shootouts.
Also, Arturo Beltran was a huge player and Jefe de las Plazas. He had very good ties within the government alongside Hector. That was was never portrayed in the series. Overall, it was good but it could have been more in depth and accurate.

    1. Its got to be insanely hard to make it 100% accuarate. You must understand they need to edit and cut films to make them short enough. Im sure lots of great scenes were removed.

  18. I fled to mexico in 2009 to escape a small gun charge from texas. I stayed there until i was deported in june of 2011. Guzman was a key leader in the Sinaloa cartel but not as in charge as the show makes him out to be. I was there when Beltran Leyva was taken down by the military in Cuernavaca Morelos. I remember hearing grenades going off. I must have been a half mile away from his house. There was a lot of heavy gunfire. I also remember seeing in the newspaper that Arturo's body was shot a ridiculous amount of times. I later moved to Acapulco where La Barbie was then in charge of the plaza there. I'm confused is Muneca supposed to be La Barbie? Los emes are zetas? It's heavily fictional and things aren't as grotesque as they were while I was there. Some details don't add up. All in all it's an enjoyable show. I can't wait to watch the third season and see how Univision and Netflix portray what happened. Don't mess it up especially you Univision. Get the story straight
