Following El Chapo's extradition: The power of the Sinaloa Cartel diminishes by half

chivis martinez for borderland beat republished from animal politico

With El Chapo having been arrested and extradited, the Sinaloa cartel reduces its presence in Mexico.   Data from the PGR reveals that the activity of that organization has decreased in the country.

The cartel has gone from having a presence in eleven states, and now only operate  in seven and with less criminal cells in operation.

The presence of the Sinaloa Cartel in the states of the country has been on the decline since the extradition to the United States of its leader, Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, last January.

In 2017, El Chapo’s organization lost its presence in the Mexican Pacific area, in states such as Colima, Nayarit and Jalisco, where it has surrendered territory to the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG).

The Sinaloa organization has also ceased operations in the Yucatan peninsula, according to information from the Attorney General's Office (PGR) regarding criminal organizations with operations in the country.

Where the Sinaloa cartel is still active is in northwest Mexico with presence in Chihuahua, Sonora, Durango, Coahuila, Baja California, Baja California Sur and Sonora.

Sinaloa Cartel's activity using criminal cells also declined: since 2015 data revealed that El Chapo operated with up to ten criminal groups, but in the first four months of this year there are only records that the cartel has a relationship with seven cells: Los Artistas Asesinos, Gente Nueva, Los Cabrera, el Cártel del Poniente; and bands associated with El Aquiles, El Tigre and Del 28.

Joaquin Guzman Loera was extradited to the United States on January 19, 2017 and is detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center, a federal prison in New York City.

Prosecutors in charge of the case argue that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute the capo in the United States for at least 17 separate crimes including money laundering, criminal conduct, and conspiracy to produce and distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana; as well as the use of firearms for the commission of drug offenses.

The extradition of the capo took place after three arrests and two escapes of maximum security prisons, in 2001 and 2015.

Federal officials have said that the extradition of the Chapo caused a reorganization in the leadership of the Sinaloa cartel; as well as the advance of other criminal organizations such as the CJNG which, as the official data shows, is already the criminal group having greatest presence in the country.

The power of the Sinaloa Cartel diminishes by half

The latest official records show, for the first time in 40 years, that the Sinaloa Cartel loses its presence in the country.

But before his extradition to the United States, Joaquin El Chapo Guzman led the most powerful criminal organization, which managed to extend its influence to 24 of the country's 32 entities. So far, no other organization has operated in so many states and has long resisted the onslaught of the federal government to weaken it.

With El Chapo Guzman, the Sinaloa Cartel was the first criminal organization to successfully participate and lead the trafficking of four drugs: marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

NarcoData has recorded the progress of the Sinaloa Cartel in the country since its inception in the 1980s.

In the beginning of the term of Enrique Peña Nieto, Sinaloa was the organization with more presence in the country but according to data of PGR, it has lost almost half of its area of influence yielding ground in the western states of the country.

  1. Ya i read on several mexican sites its the opposite that they grew with 2-3 more cells now apart of the Cartel Del Pacifico.

    1. More cells do not mean more power. Could mean more people are becoming independent of CDS yet like to hide under their protection like all those sureno gangs that while in Cali can claim different names and fight amongst each other but in prison are ruled by one head gang. They also call themselves surenos outside of Cali trying to intimidate others by them saying they got the backing of this same prison gang. They all use one big name in what appears to be an act of desperation to get noticed because by themselves they are weak!

    2. Don't confuse cells with influence and power. Not the same thing.

    3. Ya well "several" sites copied excelsior. excelsior is not reliable, nor do they use data and hard fact. I like La Silla Rota and Animal Politico they rely on hard data, not word on the street.

If cells meant power LFM and CT would be the most powerful.

    4. The new cancerous cells of hungry narco wannabes metastasizing from cjng alias las jaliskas may have taken and taken, but their turn at the helm is about to end, whoever is the new presidente will surely chose his own team of drug traffickers, unless MAO osorio chón choses to continue the relationship with Las Jaliskas, but they will never finish CDS, too much for one big fat fish...
If MAO wins somehow, how about some russian help? Or chinese, after all MAO is a brotha, and all that meth did not come home to mexico alone, unannounced, or empty handed...

    4. @6:14 so the DEA and even CIA here in the states do NOT know the wearabouts of Chapos kids yet a person like you have them on IG and know where they are on a concistent basis.
This leads to 2 conclusions only.
First is U.S. government was and is full of shit when they say that they target all cartels equally to so call stem the flow of drugs into the U.S. - that they never favored CDS cartel.
Two: you are full of shit for saying that.
Let's see if their is a processional authoritive figure from the states that can explain this situation with CDS for us, hopefully not some random nuthugger???

CDS has been in action since miguel angel felix gallardo and co murdered his Godfather Don Pedro Avilés and moved to guadalajara for benefit of making fuck ups with the DEA that cost them 3p years in prison, and the CDS still has diretivos all over the place, like la chapa chila, just la mencha a Jaliska is from michuakkkan.

After all salinas put the cartel de guadalajara in prison and la Neta zedillo loved to have his own toys in prison inrregardless of guilt, luckily La Chachalaca Fox was more progresista, he now pushes to legalize grifa, he don't wanna be put in prison too.

  6. I can see the effectiveness of chopping the head of the snake. Where it pertains to the dismantlement of any such organization.
However, I am somewhat skeptical as being such a blow towards a drug cartel. Since the drug operations are run by a corporation of elite inconspicuous individuals ( government / political powers).
The drugs are continuous and never ending.
Along with the fortunes. The poster board face was only the tail of the snake. The head of the snake still exists!

    2. Agreed...they had to get rid of the social media bragging, and spreading too thin....The head of the snake is alive and well..all companies must evolve, and adapt..CDS still has the infastructure. I think they're reducing their profile in retail sales in Mexico. Let the others have that. Good PR...Lay low and pay your Piso..

    2. NY is the farthest place from his area of influence hence the safest to prevent his escape. Chi town is by all acounts Chapo friendly last I, heard.

      Delete
    3. NY had a lot of interest in getting La chapa to keep him silent, they did the same to Fat Tony Salerno and John Gotti to not pay them for services rendered, the usual pay some select employers chose to give the people that trust them, bad thing the niuyorrican and niu jeysays mobsters could not sue in court, they trusted somebody even worse than the Red Mafiya and La Chapa did the same, too many Latin Kings in Niu Yoark

    4. New York is the highest profile of the bunch, and the US government is committed to embarrassing Chapo and making his punishment as public as anything. USA couldn't care less where Chapo has people or doesn't have people in the USA, he could have been tried in San Diego across from TJ and still ZERO chance he could escape. This isn't Mexico, he's in the USA with the Feds, these are the big boys.

  9. Artistas and Tigre and GN are at least three of the groups fighting for Chihuahua against La Linea aka Juarez cartel and Aztecas. They really haven't acomplished much against La Linea since Chapos arrest no matter what nutthuggers from them say. These maps should be redrawn however into showing only pockets of CDS cells across Chihuahua state like GN in the south of it controlling perhaps 5 or 6 small towns there. A few GN cells and Artistas Asesinos gang in Juarez controlling perhaps the Valley and a small part of the eastside of Juarez. Tigres people to the west of the state. juarez still in Ojinaga and across most of the remainder of the state with Aztecas in Chihuahua and cd Juarez at the very least.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You should be nominated for drug zar. Cds materials are going through juarez into the U.S. then to the east cost. Explain that.

      Delete
    2. CDS are going thru the outskirts of Juarez into the U.S. That place counts as the El Paso Juarez drug corridor according to DEA and even Border patrol. Some drugs from CDS do managed to go thru the international bridges but not many of those drugs get stashed in the city of Juarez proper. Like I, said though also, Artistas as well as GN still remain in Juarez and possibly even Mexicles that help get those drugs from Juarez into the U.S.
Linea has a hard time eliminating competition when all the heat is on them such as like a previous article here wrote about el 80 leader of La Linea being wanted by Mexican authorities. Now that Chapo is captured nobody ever hears of any other big capo of theirs such as MZ and Chapos kids being wanted by any authorities including the U.S. authorities. Explain that one to me?

    3. El menchito is in prison garranteeing the good behaviour of la Mencha, loayitos and vicente zambada niebla and la chapa are doing the same, having th tied up like little sheep allows the narco-governments on the US and mexico and keeps these traitors from piggh backing their own drugs and robbing half of the market to build themselves their own fortunes.
They seem to have done the same thing to amado carrillo fuentes who said:
"son cbingaderas! Se va a trabajar cuando yo diga!"
But of course, the beltranuses, el mayo, la chapa, el azul, el güero palma, nacho coronel, and others were not going to lissen,

    4. @8:34 there are many US indictments against Mayo, and the Chapitos.....Mayo and Mencho are the most wanted men in Mexico, and US...I believe there is more complicity toward Mayo because of his influence, and perceived restraint. This info is allot of false news to bring more attention to stopping the even more bloody CJNG. The money has to keep flowing, So whoever the govs decide can keep going...the others will be dismantled and business absorbed. Who's it gonna be?

    5. 8:34 the DEA and the CIA sure know where drugs are passing and "where they are not", I absolutely believe you,
and sure enough, mexican cartels are lording it all through Washington DC GAO.

      Delete
    6. @9:35 well according to some people commenting here DEA and CIA should be able to find the Chapitos easily just by using social media places like IG and possibly even FB. Yet the. Chapitos have not been arrested. Why is that so?

      Delete
    7. @2:51 DEA and CIA are full of shit! If they know where the drugs arw comming from, why haven't they stopped them from entering in the first place? They are probably helping CDS to begin with. I, know DEA agents that have at least a 200 grand home and a few others that they own. All this on government salary? Give me a break!
Only hope BB publishes this. I, won't name names either because it's a risk for yours truly.

    8. @6:23... exactly...why? Cuz El Senor, is still alive, and has his cards to play....And Mayo is Mayo....he's well insulated..Flacco, Chapitos, and Vicente will keep the biz alive...they are learning well.

    1. GN among other cells finally realized that CDS although being the wealthiest cartel in Mexico pays their members peanuts. Onky the Chapo and Zambada clans make the biggest fortunes. Their is also because of this no real opportunity to "move up the corporate ladder" if you will with these dynasties in the way for they rule of course with an iron fist like all dynasties in past history. This means that although thousands of foot soldiers work for CDS not even a few dozen might get to reap the tremendous amount of profit/money this cartel makes. 90 percent of them will only be cannon fodder and 9 percent more will be just mules while the 1 percent will enjoy the riches!!!

      Delete
    2. GN are still part of cds. Don't believe everything you read. The manta was left by blo to make a conflict between cds (chapos kids) and GN.
