Shootout in San José del Cabo Leaves Eight Dead

A shootout near the Mexican beach resort of Los Cabos early on Monday, May 1  between suspected gang members and navy forces has left eight dead, including one soldier.

The incident took place before dawn on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo, about 20 miles (30 km) northeast of the area's main tourist hub of Cabo San Lucas. Security forces later recovered unspecified drugs, vehicles, communications equipment, military-issued weapons and uniforms, the navy said in a statement.

The Western State of Baja California Sur, popular with international tourists and ex-pats, has seen growing gangland violence over the last several months.

The Secretary of the Marines reports that its personnel on a patrol were attacked with gunfire by suspected members of organized crime. It was also reported that they were in the area, the Colonia of Villas de Cortez, after an anonymous tip was received

from someone in the neighborhood who saw an unusual amount of persons coming to and from a house. They were planning to search the house but were instead met by gunfire.

The confrontation lasted nearly 40 minutes, with neighbors hiding on the floors of their homes and at least one witness also reported hearing a grenade.

The dead have yet to be identified but the Secretary of the Mexican Marines-Navy
stated that they are committed to the maintenance of public security and protection of the well being of Mexican families and civilian society at large.

The Marines returned gunfire, resulting in the death of seven of the delinquents, five
men and two women, and one Marine was wounded but died in hospital.

  3. "The Secretary of the Marines reports that its personnel on a patrol were attacked with gunfire by suspected members of organized crime." Anyone buy this? I would think criminals like to lay low. Does not make sense that they would attack a heavily armed military convoy.

    1. If it was a diversionary ambush, then it happens. Those who died are merely cannon fodder for the main objective.

    2. The marines were going to search the house... The narcos had to fire on them, either that or be arrested for all the shit found in there

  4. With Mayo as the main capo now, even Mencho is going to get in line and follow the CDS orders. Everyone is going to be under the cds bannner, with the exception of golfos and zetas.

    4. M Since 1950s the only big names to have any stamina have been from Sinaloa. From Pedro Avilés, Rafael Caro Quintero, Neto Fonseca Carrillo, Miguel Caro Quintero, Amado Carrillo Fuentes, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, AFO, El Azul, Mayo and the 100s of others from Sinaloa with decades of staying power I haven't menched ( ;

    5. Mencho is tweaked out like Damaso...Mayo will never align with him. Don't get high off your own supply. The real Capos sell drugs, they don't do them. That's why Mayo is so much smarter. Even Chapo told Sean Penn, he hadn't done drugs or drank in over 20yrs. Tweakers make bad business.

  5. Wouldn't it be much more profitable for everyone to abide to a truce and boundaries.
Fighting till death has become a costly burden for all sides. Common sense suggests that. Before government intervention successfully implements legislating policies favoring the legalization of some narcotics. Marijuana for starters. We all know it's a failed drug war.
Despite the fact that drugs are a menacing epidemic in our societies. It's never going to end consumption by millions of users.
Truce already and let the Mexican communities enjoy life without fear .
