Eight Bodies Found on Mexican Highway to Acapulco

Posted by DD  from New York Times material and from Agencia Red Noticias

By REUTERS APRIL 10, 2017, 3:18 P.M. E.D.T.

ACAPULCO, México — The bodies of eight men were found stuffed in a SUV  along the highway that connects Acapulco with Mexico City, in one of the latest violent episodes to shake the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, a government official said on Monday.

The bodies were discovered close to midnight on Sunday, wrapped in plastic bags and secured with plastic tape.

Roberto Alvarez, spokesman for Coordination Guerrero, which coordinates state and federal law enforcement, said in a video announcement sent to reporters that the men were aged 25 to 35 and died from suffocation. The bodies showed evidence of torture, he added.

Two had their faces exposed, and six were covered with sheets, according to police sources who were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

KSI reported that the eight bodies initially appeared to be gagged; while Alvarez did not specify how they were asphyxiated, drug gangs in Mexico frequently wrap their victims' faces and heads with packing tape, cutting off their breathing.

In Guerrero, different criminal groups tied to the poppy trade wage bloody turf wars while the army destroys crops.

DD: This past Friday before the official start of Semana de Santa (Easter Week) today (April 10) Operativo de Seguridad Semana Santa held a parade to show the residents and the tourist  that were expected  the security forces that would be protecting them during that week.  There were the usual speeches by the leaders of the military, the federal and state police and the Mayor.  This video is in Spanish but for the non Spanish speaking readers just click on the "CC" (closed caption) at the bottom of the screen you can read the English subtitles.

Even though there were several murders over the weekend, including a 13 year old boy killed in the early morning hours of Monday (today), the tourist seemed to believe the promises made in the speeches.  The Secretary of Tourism announced that there was a already a 85% occupancy rate (beach front and centro) based on reservations. Most of those are thought to be Mexican tourist rather than foreign tourist.

He estimated they would spend over 435 Million pesos during that week.  It seems to appear that they feel safe and are not afraid of the big bad wolf.

Such a shame that one cannot enjoy Mexicos beauty without being vigilant. It's not a vacation where one has to be on guard.

  3. To me each one of the three speakers represent the typical winner from the drug trade: sitting behind a desk and collecting massive bribes from the traffickers whilst maintaining a perfect image to the public.

Everything political in Mexico seems to have been infiltrated by some external link to corruption unfortunately .

  4. As everyone can see the residents and town officials are pitching tourism for foreigners. A source of revenue desperately needed for Mexico. Parades and spokesperson will not influence foreign tourists during a time of uncertainty. Many are weary and a stronger presence is necessary to combat violence which has plagued Mexico.
Feel sorry for those residents who rely on such for income.

    1. Yeh its sad. A lot of my friends used to frequently go to Mexico to party but now they would not set food on Mexican soil if you put a gun to their head! their economy is rapidly losing serious money through the vast reduction of tourism since this whole mess began in 2006 or whenever it was. Yo Mexico you better seriously dismantle these cartels before the place ends up totally fucked. People won't go somewhere to have a vacation where there is a good chance they'll be kidnapped and butchered.

    2. Whatever way we may feel about tourism, bottom line its providing revenue for many different people who make subsistence on the tourism money. These are the people who it affects the most when tourism drops..

    3. You can see there are no foreign tourists at the beach. When I used to go to Acapulco it was full of beautiful women in bikini's. Even the men are not wearing swim suits. It is sad that they have lost that big tourist income with high tipping and paying foreigners in Acapulco.

  10. Sure, Drive out tourism, Mexico cant control violence in tourist area, Death penalty needed, and loosen gun regulations for self defense

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The death penalty should have been implemented as soon as this violence began. It's Mexican politicians who have halted such efforts. Then again it's Mexicos lack of transparency policies surrounding corruption which attributed to what's transpiring now.
What will Mexico become if certain political elements halt currency from hard working migrants from entering back to support families? Such revenue pumps Mexicos economy. More than tourists.
Times are changing and unless Mexico can breakaway from drug trafficking tough times are in the forecast to provide jobs.
It's the citizens who as always take the blunt of such an impact.
Hopefully things will change in these upcoming elections.

    2. Yezzz the problem in Mexico is there are too FEW guns in Mexico! You need more guns more police more jails more military more laws (preferably secret ones like we got) more courts (preferably secret ones like we got) more judges (preferably secret ones like we got) and more government spy and surveillance (preferably secret ones which dont have because of Snowden)!

      Delete
    3. No truer words have ever been spoken.

My friends in Mexico, who are hard-working fishermen, can hardly get their hands on decent weapons for self-defense. The criminals will always have access to guns. What is the Mexican government afraid of with the good people of Mexico armed? Could it be that they would become accountable for their corruption?

      Delete
    4. If you got money you can buy a gun in mexico, but any pumpkin seed street vendor may grab it and stick it up your ass.
Mexicans that criminals prey on don't have.money for food, rent, bills, and need to buy guns?

    2. In the Golden Zone of Acapulco, you'd be hard pressed to see one white face. The bars have become a haven for the tatted up wife beater wearing beer belly Mexican walking with an open container. Lejos from the days of the past where Locals along with Americans, Italians, Germans were lined up to get into each of these bars. During the week outside of the holidays the beaches are empty...then comes the weekend and your back to tatted up fattie daddy and naca mama with an oxxo cooler full of tecate, blasting music and littering on the beach. The streets are heavily patrolled by platoons ...not armed cops..literally platoons of military that look exhausted from standing around the hot sun. Many boarded up shops. It's so sad....They still have weather, a view and memories that some of us hold onto...I can't imagine a 30yr old upper middle class family going to Aca and finding it a safe relaxing clean vacation.

  14. Its fine if these guys were narco's but I hope to god they were not innocents picked at random to be used by a cartel as a warning of some sorts. It really pisses me off when they do that.

As usual the mexican authorities will do nothing to catch whoever did it.

    3. The AutoDefensas michoacanas and guerrerenses have been accused of murdering innocents at times, and the accusers were right, el americano and los viagras and "H3" were helping the mexican army and police carry on with a state sponsored campaign of murder to terrorize the people. Until they got shamed and turned to imprisoning more than 500 AD and their leader Dr Mireles.
Now cjng is accused of the same, I guess they have La Mencha's prison cell ready and he should go quietly to it, like sheep

  20. You publish a post "I went to Hong Kong......," but not my post regarding the French Canadians in Acapulco? Just remember, it isn't racism, if it's true. I even have photographic evidence. The guy who posted about the "Golden Zone" was nearly 100% spot-on EXCEPT for the presence of the aforementioned French Canadians. They are here in Acapulco en masse & I see several every time I go out.
Last note: Why does Acapulco get blamed for murders that don't happen in the city? You do it & other media outlets do it all the time.

  21. Took me forty minutes to drive from Llano Largo to Colosio (about 3 miles). Chilango Soup. We have been here since November. It is much safer than three years ago. For example all the people that I know who own businesses in Colosio do not have to pay piso (bribe) to stay in business. I love all the comments from people who do not live here.. Granted it is has it's problems . Usually, most of the bodies that are found are not law abiding innocent people.

    1. I agree, it took me 45 min from Club Deportivo to Centro yesterday [5km]...Chilangos everywhere. I even saw a few Gringos when I made an ATM stop @ La Diana, so there are definitely extranjeros here besides the Chilango masses as well.

The people who comment from afar use body counts unrelated to Acapulco to perpetuate a war zone like cloud of negativity; when in fact, I find life here quite pleasant. My wife's store & her brother's medical clinic are both in Centro and "La Maña" have never bothered them. And given their relative proximity to the cantinas & putas, if they were going to be extorted, they're definitely in the perfect spot for it. I'm not saying extortion doesn't exist, just sayin' my wife's family has never been threatened with it, and they are in the mero Centro.

On the other hand, I do know a few people who've been shot dead that hung out in Centro near El Tepito last year & the year before...all of them were street urchins working in the dope industry. Although they all knew the risks, I still feel remorse for them...they were just trying to get by, not horrible people by any stretch. I used to hire them to wash our vehicles and do other odd jobs. Never once did they turn down a job, regardless of how menial.

At any rate, I'll take Acapulco over any US city East of San Diego. Chicago anyone? Anyone? Yes, I have been to Chicago, long enough to know it sucks huevos de toro, even without all of the murders there. Boardshorts & shirtless 24x7 in Acapulco FTW.
