Due To Deteriorating Health, MC Requests Transfer of Mireles to DF

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

The Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) (Citizens’ Movement) party has asked the federal government to transfer the former leader of the autodefensas, José Manuel Mireles Valverde, to Mexico City (DF) so that he can be attended by medical specialists given the deterioration of his health in recent days.

According to information released by the newspaper Cambio de Michoacán, Daniel Moncada Sánchez, state coordinator of the MC, has been in constant communication with the sister of Mireles, Virginia Mireles, who brought to him the critical state Dr. Mireles is in.

Virginia Mireles explained through a statement that the former autodefensa leader has severe symptoms of dehydration due to diarrhea, as well as uncontrolled blood pressure, and is not responding to treatment.

In less than a week, Dr. Mireles has lost at least four kilograms (~8.8 pounds), which is concerning.

Meanwhile, Moncada Sánchez emphasized that there is currently an intense defense of Mireles Valverde to obtain his release in the coming days.  However, for his health to be at risk, it is imperative that specialized medical care is provided until his health improves, he said.

On July 3 of this year, the Attorney General of the Republic, Arely Gómez, announced that the agency in charge had abandoned the criminal proceedings against José Manuel Mireles, which opened the way for his release from prison.

However, five months after that statement, the activist remains subject to trial for the crime of possession of weapons, which is serious and does not allow the release on bail.

Mireles was arrested on June 27, 2014 in the coastal region of Michoacán, charged with the possession of weapons, cartridges, drugs, and was imprisoned at the federal prison in Hermosillo, Sonora.

That's right he was central to the AD movement and basically dismantled the Templarios in a year...

--Dr Mireles' mistake, he seriously believed in the AD, and he failed to sell out and get out on time, some will say that is the greatest thing he ever did...

  6. The Mexican government prefers that Dr. Mireles dies in prison rather than allow him to be released while the Mexican system of injustice moves at the pace of a snail. From the onset of Dr. Mireles' incarceration, Mexican President Mini Me ensured that one of the few honest men in Mexico would remain confined within a putrid Mexican prison and not be allowed to leave until the trumped up false charges are adjudicated. It appears that Dr. Mireles will finally gain his freedom, when he is carried out in a coffin.

Evidence that Mexico does indeed practice capital punishment! However, this corrupt Mexican government and Draconian system of injustice only metes it out to innocent defendants that pose an imagined threat.

  11. The Mexican government as well as their elite class have basically murdered Dr. Mireles. Dr. Mireles has been kept in prison for the purpose of stressing the man's body to the point of no return and if they do release him they'll make damn sure that his health is past the point of no return, then they'll all make the claim that since he passed outside of prison it had nothing to do with them. It truly pisses me off that this man's heroic deeds are not more well known around the world and his treatment is relegated to the back pages of only a few news papers here and there. All I can say is if this man does fall I hope it will be the last straw for the Mexican people and they'll take the action to remove the virus that has infected their homeland.

    2. Agree traditional press/media need to report on Mexico's state of affairs daily. I was taken aback several months ago, when began reviewing this site. Shocking.

When one searches for current info. most comes out of UK. However, their press has always been sensationalized just like press in Mexico (photos of aftermaths).

All we can do is send these articles on to local press, friends etc.

The biggest impact would be for US naturalized/residents with Mexican heritage to get on the ball and strategize as to how they can make a cultural change/positive impact on peace.

Would be interested in more articles discussing what these human rights organizations are up to in Mexico.

    2. follow the money, and you have the answer to that question. The reality is that the Mexican and American Governments make too much money from the drug trade to squelch it. I think this is pretty obvious by the fact that the Mexican Government waited for the Autodefensas to be infiltrated by criminals before they gave them badges and guns and turned it into some radical criminal defense group, while ridding of Miriles. Miriles involuntarily gave the Cartels and Government exactly what they wanted. Miriles did all the leg work with his men only to hand over a multi-billion dollar drug trade to the Mexican Government. I don't exactly know how they plan on accounting for any economic growth with a bunch of drug money but I'm sure they'll find a way. Maybe the United States will get them to manufacture weapons and drugs for them; two for one! Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Morelia, Michoacán.-Sixth District Judge based in Uruapan, Horacio González Ortiz, denied on Friday the release of 100 paramilitaries detained for more than a year in Tumbiscatío and Lazaro Cardenas, accused of carrying firearms for the exclusive use of Army.

According to information of P rocess 30 the paramilitaries were arrested in Tumbiscatío, on May 9, 2014; while the other 70 were captured by the armed movement founder, Manuel Mireles Jose Valverde, the June 27, 2014, in La Mira, Lazaro Cardenas.

The defense of self-defense lawyer, Ignacio Mendoza, described as "cowardly and narrow" the judge's decision, noting that recourse to the same legal argument that allowed freedom of CEMEI Verdía Zepeda, charged with the same offense and acquitted on 28 July , like that of self-defense Turicato, José Manuel Farfán, in February 2015.

The trial justified that "they can not enforce the gun laws in Michoacán to the temporary self-defense because the rule of law was broken and civilian authorities."

"If this judge is proceeding in this way with this hundred paramilitaries, should also proceed against the seven thousand paramilitaries who are armed and against all the officials that legalized, allowed them to use weapons, became rural forces and used "he said.

Arguing that will appeal the judge's decision, Mendoza said this afternoon gave the news to the hundreds of men who are prisoners for more than a year ago in criminal Francisco J. Mujica and David Franco Rodriguez, known as 'Mil Cumbres' .

  29. No way we can give up on this Mexican hero. He did his good deed for the country. When the AD rose up in Michoacán the whole country should have followed but, no other state had the balls to stand up to the cartels. Quite the opposite, when El Chapo got caught people in Sinaloa were marching on the streets for his release. There is a lot of grass roots work to be done in Mexico. Mireles, Ipolito Mora and Semi have shown the people it can be done. More of these brave soles are needed. They are there, I like the Idea of Vigilantism. Make the criminals look over their shoulder. Wee need a modern day ZORRO...

  31. Pretty f*ing sad. It's too bad there aren't more real men like him on this planet. It's funny how the US government goes to places like Iraq to free the people from a corrupt government, yet they don't do the same thing in places like Mexico. It just goes to show that it's not about freeing people from a corrupt government. If it was they would be in Mexico right now. The US should invade Mexico and free the good Mexican people from their corrupt government. Let me ask you good people of Mexico....would you ever want to become part of the US? That would only be a quick fix however. The real problem is money. We need to get rid of money. It's the cause of just about every problem on this planet. Watch the movie Zeitgeist, and check out thevenusproject.com. This planet could be heaven on Earth if we all came together as one people. It's the wealthiest people on this planet who want to keep things as they are. They know they could never have the lifestyle that they have if money didn't exist anymore. They need money to keep us as slaves.
