" El Chapo" is reported to have suffered injuries, evaded capture twice

Lucio R. Borderland Beat from Yahoo and NBC News and various Mexican outlets identified in the body of this post

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the fugitive drug lord, is believed to be suffering from injuries to his leg and face as he continues to evade Mexican authorities.

The Mexican Marines zeroed in last week on the Sinaloa cartel kingpin after U.S. drug agents intercepted cell phone signals suggesting "El Chapo" was hiding at a ranch near Cosala in the rugged Sierra Madre mountains in western Mexico, according to three sources with knowledge of the operation.

The massive manhunt continues amid new revelations about Guzman's escape from a maximum-security prison in Altiplano in July.

Marines raided the ranch in helicopters, but were forced to turn back after taking fire from suspected Guzman security forces.

The Marines later entered the camp on foot and discovered cell phones, medication and two-way radios, but Guzman and his accomplices are believed to have fled on ATVs.

Authorities gave chase and believed to have encircled the fugitive within a two-mile radius. But a week and a half after the raid, officials are losing hope that Guzman's capture is imminent.

From El Universal,  El Debate, Vanguardia:

United States  located Chapo in sierra of Sinaloa and Durango; Cosalá shootings using drones

With shared intelligence between US federal agents with their counterparts in Mexico reported  the interception of communications drug lord Joaquin El Chapo Guzman on a ranch in the mountainous area of the golden triangle region -the border shared between Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango.

Locating the capo now involves the deployment of drones in  the so-called golden triangle.

Marina besieges 13 mountain communities

The governor of Sinaloa, Mario López Valdez, confirmed that the military operations in the mountainous area of the state in northwestern Mexico and neighboring Durango aim to capture Guzman Loera.

"The military personnel working in the area have been sent from Mexico City",  Lopez told reporters Wednesday.

He added that around 13 communities in the region have been besieged by members of the Marina.

The military operations and the crossfire have forced the displacement of more than 300 people in Cosalá, said the mayor of the border town of Sinaloa with Durango.

The Sinaloa governor confirmed  support for the displaced, who are being served by the municipal government and the state system  for Integral Family Development (DIF).

Chapo evaded Marina twice

Joaquin Guzman Loera is hiding in the Sierra Madre Occidental, on the border of Durango and Sinaloa, where he evaded the Marina on two occasions.

According to the newspaper Reforma , federal government sources confirmed that the operations that for 2 weeks  in Tamazula, Durango, was to capture the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Since his escape on July 11, the Marina has been close to capturing  Guzman Loera on July 30 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and just last Saturday, in Tamazula.

Reforma reports this:

On July 30, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), in coordination with the Mexican Marina (navy) and the Center for Investigation and National Security (Cisen), obtained information advising that "El Chapo" would leave the  Sierra to visit  people in Los Mochis.

From Mexico City, the Marina mobilized a group of Special Forces to a nearby rural area on a road in Los Mochis. The data was positive, but Guzman evaded capture.

Next, on September 7th Marina was sent to the capital of Durango for aerial patrols, but this time the goal was not Guzman, but "El Mayo" Zambada.

No indications of a possible El "Chapo" location was again seen until October 6th, when coordination of  the DEA, Marina and a Cisen using communication interception of DEA, pinpointed his  possible location in Tamazula, Durango.

Official sources claimed that by eavesdropping satellite communications,    identified six "intermediaries" of  Guzman Loera and "El Mayo" Zambada who were in the middle of the sierra, with the mission to bring supplies to "El Chapo".

The six people who are detected in the sierra, were responsible for coordinating financial operations and drug trafficking for Guzmán,

Marina elements of the Elite Parachute, Rifle Battalion, were immediately mobilized to Acachuane, Palo Verde, Los Limones and  El Venado, in Duarango.  Marina aircraft then carried the men to isolated areas of the sierras.

Without specifying details, they said that last Saturday Guzman escaped from  the Marina operation in the mountain landscape of Tamazula.

First video: During an operation in the limits of the Sierra de Tamazula and Cosalá, Marine citizens remained besieged for three days. Saturday night they were rescued and took  them to a safe area of Cosalá.

All of western law enforcement and militaries have success in doing what they do because we live in a society where ratting out someone or calling the cops is considered being righteous when that's all a bunch of bs.

    5. And rightly so.Justice is served here.Thats the right thing to do to report a crime.Ive done it only to prevent another person becoming victimized but then again law enforcement is not in bed with the criminals.Only wish the day comes when the good Mexican citizens can do the same safely.

      Delete
    6. "ratting out someone or calling the cops," is not just considered righteous, it is literally the ONLY option where I'm at, if I take the law into my own hands I end up being arrested and charged as the lawbreaker. If you ask police "can I fight back if someone attacks me?" they say "hell no, call emergency, if you fight back you're the criminal", by the time they arrive (if they arrive at all) the attacker has had plenty of time to do what they want to do and run! How is that supposed to work? B.S. justice...

  9. Maybe with all the money Chapo has, he can pay people to disguise themselves as him for Halloween and make el Triángulo Dorado the land of a 1000 Chapos. This will help him evade capture. If this man can take a $600 million seizure coke hit and operate Mexico's most powerful cartel, he can afford for 1000 persons to dress like him for Jaloguin. After all, Chapo has made everyday Halloween and Día de los Muertos in Mexico since Puente Grande thru
Altiplano. Furthermore he has been giving out tricks or treats, especially treats, to his favorite corrupt government leaders, federal police, generals, estatales, municipales, judiciales, custodios, etc. in the form of verdes that sweeten bank accounts. ReplyDelete
  38. @7:28 that may be true but when you die no one will remember your name. After your children's children, you will have been forgotten as if you never existed. Chapo will continue to live long after hes dies. It gives his life more purpose, and makes him value freedom/life everyday he's still around. He knows anyday can be his last but his life is more beautiful because of it. Whether anyone agrees to what he does or not, we can all agree that he will be remembered long after we've all died.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He likely will get out of the sierra and go somewhere less obvious. Maybe Guadalajara?

    ReplyDelete
  40. If its true that El Chapo was injured this means that the Mexican government (as well as the U.S.), want him dead period. 40 years from now maybe little more his bastard kids that he's left throughout Mexico will be telling the story of the life of one of the most memorable capos to ever come out of Mexico. His many widowed concubines might even be invited to news or gossip tv shows in the near future to reveal a little about Chapos personal life such as his taste in food and or his daily routine when away from the business side of his life. Some might even make money off of this and even more some of his kids might seek other venues of popularity such as acting and singing yet claiming to be far removed from any knowledge about their fathers business. The sad thing is that nobody will probably ever remember all the lives this guy took because of his ambition and greed and even worst tons of people that did not even know him personally or benefited directly from anything this guy did in life will literally cry and shed real tears after he is gone! Fuck him though!

  51. Couple of questions, Why would the media report that drones were used to aide in the search for El Chapo, being the mountais with limited cel phone coverage El Chapo would have to be using satalite phone or radio but it would have to be specialized equipment that would be easier to track and triangulate with drones so now that that has been reported he will probably go to a courier based system like OBL. Unless the report of the drones if false and the Govt is just trying to send him misinformation to rattle his nerves.
Second question is, doesn't it seem that this situation with El Chapo fleeing from prison follows the same pattern that Pablo Escobar did when he fled from La Catedral? My fear is, that with the funding and resourses that El Chapo has and being cornored like he was will he initiate a full scale war against all of Mexico?

    6. Cristero: (1) Mexico is at war. (2) As per his agreement with the Colombian authorities to turn himself in, Escobar picked where the Cathedral was built, oversaw its construction, all the fuses boxes connected to a hidden switch concealed in his personal suite, which he flipped the night of his escape. (3) He's killed around a year, later, in December,1992- two days after his birthday.

Chapo has already outlived el Paisa by 15 years, has made 2 escapes from prison and could possibly draw his last natural breath in his sleep.Chapo has never held office. Escobar got into politics, was elected to congress, had to resign less than half a year, later, exposed in the newspaper El Espectador as a drug smuggler. He declared war on Colombia in the decade of the 1980's. He took out federal buildings, police stations, newspapers, hotels, and airplanes with bombs. 300 blocks suffered collateral damages from the bombs that blew up the National Police headquarters in Bogota. His sicarios assassinated judges, ministers, political leaders, newspaper editors, journalists and presidential candidates. Women, children and men were kidnapped, as well as a future mayor, vice president and president. Most of Escobar's kidnapping victims died or were killed. Colombia isn't over the pain of Escobar.

Chapo shares much of the same sort of notoriety Escobar did, but the similarities end there. Chapo's richer, for example. The Mexicans have always done it smarter, without them, Rodriguez Gacha, the Medellin and the Cali cartels wouldn't have made the money they amassed. Times were different, no internet, no emails, no narconovelas, no media play-by-play "narco coverage." The world wasn't half as fucked up by narco dollars, either, there were no "narco presidents" running countries, paramilitary groups in the service of these governments or guerrilla in the coke biz. As clever as the Mexican cartels were, the poverty in Mexico was worse at the time than in Colombia, now, both are equally impoverished countries, living in fear. Killing Chapo Guzman won't fix Mexico any more than killing Pablo helped Colombia. LEGALIZE.
