TX Judge Sentenced: Illegal Sale of Guns for Texas & Mexico

Posted by Lucio R. Borderland Beat Republished from Houston Chron and Austin Statesman
Wright is second from left-he changed his plea to guilty in May receiving a light sentence
Disgraced former Williamson County Court-at-Law Judge Timothy Wright was sentenced Friday to 18 months in federal prison for illegally selling guns and lying about the deals, including weapons peddled to criminals.

Wright, 70, of Georgetown, pleaded guilty in May to engaging in the business of dealing firearms without a license and to making false statements to a government agent. He resigned following his guilty pleas.

Wright also was fined $15,000; he had faced a possible penalty of up to five years in prison.

5 years is what he could have faced after many of the charges were dropped in the plea. However, Wright faced a total of up to 70 years in prison for the charges: Up to 10 years in prison on each of the five firearm charges and up to five years in prison on each of the four counts of making a false statement to a government agent.

He was also indicted on:

•One count of aiding and abetting and facilitating the smuggling and attempted smuggling of firearms
•One count of facilitating the smuggling and attempted smuggling of firearms
•Two counts of making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm
•Two counts of making a false statement to government agents
Wright, 70, has served as the judge of Williamson County Court-at-Law 2 since 2003 and presides over the county’s DWI and drug court.

Prosecutors say that since June 2014, Wright sold more than 60 firearms without a federal license, including deals with felons, who by law are barred from possessing guns. Some of his gun sales were sold to two people who were smuggling the firearms across the Texas border into Mexico.

"While sworn to uphold the law, Judge Timothy Wright repeatedly violated federal laws governing the sale of firearms," according to U.S. Attorney Richard Durbin Jr. "... He falsified official firearms records to hide the true identity of the real buyer and then lied to federal investigators about his crimes. These are serious crimes for which he has been held accountable."

Wright apologized in May and said no one was above the law, "especially not judges

  2. 70 years down to 1.5 due to health issues and age. Sounds like Mexico. A judge should face enhanced charges not reduced charges. He violated the law and the public trust. Now anyone sentanced by this gun running liar can appeal for a new trial. Whata dolt!

    1. 10:35 PM, you said it! Judges should get life sentences for trafficking guns, illegal sales and buys. This guy's laughing up his sleave at the very justice system he's sworn to uphold. Q: Since he's been breaking the law for years, he was a criminal while sitting on the bench in court. Would this minor detail render his rulings invalid? Will there be a wave of re-trials on cases this dirty judge ruled on?? Stay tuned..

  3. He won't do time, it is typical of the United States people like this guy don't do time for their crimes.

    1. You are 100% spot on. In US courtrooms it literaly come down to one thing. Dolla dolla bills yall, the more you can shell out, the less time you get. Its goes both ways. The less you have to shell out, the more time you do. There isnt anyone here that could convince me that a person with paid representation will do the same or more time than a person with a public "pretender" for the same exact crime.

    2. In texas you get out the door of a quicky quick cangaroo court, with a beautiful woman hanging from your arm, wearing a nice suit of NEW CLOTHES, after paying a little fine, if you are white, old and a "judge", no tunnels for the fair judges, not even pink underpanties, I see...Texas justice riding a horse's ass...

    1. Yeah clearly Pendejo. Money talks and bullshit walks. Greed doesn't discriminate against race, color or national orgin. Get off your high horse and stop hating on us Amerians. He did the crime he will do his time. It is virtually impossible for the US to be more corrupt than Mexico. You are intitled to your opinion but your claim is exactly that ......an opinion.

    2. El Panocho Colorado Cessa got fined millones of dollars and 10 or 15 years for inviting his judge to play golf, after all he has done for amerikkka, selling his black market oil he stole from pemex at real cheap prices, because a mexican millionaire does not need any dollars at all...
--It it had been tiger woods, even texas judges would get into an OK Corral class gunfight to caddy for him, and with freshly washed lips, just in case...

    3. Pancho's conviction and Huitron's were over turned. Pancho gets a new trial but one of the appeals 3 judges said he questioned Pancho's guilt. so looks like he will walk and be given a sweet deal for a plea down and time served. that is what I am thinking anyway. if he pleas then the seized money by US and Mx governments stay. Mx confiscated all properties in mx, even that in the names of immediate family members

  10. Privileged white judge getting off easy. If his ethics are so dismal as to sell guns to criminals and cartels I wonder what else this dirt bag did that he's just doing a brief stint for??? No doubt there's been innocents killed with the guns he illegally profited from. What a scumbag!

  11. Rubbing his privilege on, sounds like discrimination somehow, it is like the privileged should have a quota or sompim' because of their high birth status and fair skin?

  12. Damn and I did 2 years for an battery with a deadly weapon. I bumped a car with my car. Literally. And this dude gets 18 months for selling guns?

    ReplyDelete
  13. That is really a sad example of the racist hypocrical and corrupt america! A public servant who no doubt caused people to die with his deviant and selfish acts should do 18 years - not 18 months. Typical in the most corrupt country in the world! I'm glad I am Mexican!
