San Diego: Women with Tijuana ties murdered

Women murdered in Chula Vista, San Diego

* Preface by saying there is NO official or otherwise word this is cartel or drug related, I found the story potentially interesting for a few reasons, which I will explain. Second, as kind of a counter to the stories of the dead in Tijuana, in the sister city of San Diego.

In southern San Diego, the lines separating Tijuana from San Diego become very blurry and almost nonexistent, the further you go down the 5 south.  Many make the commute everyday, and members of families often live within reach, barely separated by the San Ysidro border and immigration regulations.

Communities like Chula Vista, Eastlake, Bonita, San Ysidro and Imperial Beach are all deeply connected with Tijuana, and Mexico.  Eastlake, with it's sprawling gated communities and estates is sort of a Tijuana Beverley Hills, on the other side. Many of Tijuana's business elite, and business owners live here, which has been longstanding since the communities conception.

It became a sanctuary of sorts after and during 2008, when the Arellano Felix began to break apart, and El Teo began his bloody efforts to marginalize Fernando Sanchez Arellano. He also began to kidnap businessmen, doctors, and the wealthy, who were previously off limits.  Many fled, fleeing both kidnappings and the dismemberments and shootouts which had become common.

Chula Vista, off Palomar street is no Beverly Hills, it's an industrial area, with a high poverty rate, close but a world away from Eastlake, and the downtown skyline.  This is where Pamela Burgos, 24 was murdered, on Quintard Street, between Palomar and 3rd street.

It's blocks away from Castle Park High, Costco's, and Walmarts, an urban area, but not a urban war zone either.  It's gang territory, but in these communities, it all is.

On July 9th, as Comic Con madness descended upon a different San Diego, Pamela and her boyfriend were walking home, from a nearby corner store, one of dozens in the area, mostly owned by Iraqi Chaldean families, who stay open late.  Shortly before midnight, a subject fired three shots, striking Pamela in the head, and the chest.  Some reports have mentioned a shot to the face.

The unknown subject disappeared into the night, no description has been offered.  The boyfriend was apparently questioned, but is not a suspect at this time.  No shots were fired at the boyfriend.  Pamela Burgos died at the scene. The funeral is being held in Tijuana, as that is where most of her families lived.

There is nothing to suggest a drug or drug trafficking link to her murder, it is worth noting her ties to Tijuana however, as common and normal as that may be.  More telling is the nature of the murder. The killing points to a mistaken identity, or a targeted, personal attack.  There was no robbery, or attempted one, and the boyfriend wasn't hit, or acknowledged, as far as we know.  Three shots speaks to someone who had a personal grudge, or knew what they were doing.

A fatal shooting that happened nearby on Palm Avenue, in the Imperial Beach area, a similar industrial slum preceded Pamela Burgos' murder by an hour.  Robert Soria and his cousin Alex Valleres were approached by a man who began shooting, Soria was killed, his cousin wounded.  Authorities are investigating any connection.  The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt, and said to be in his 20's.

Gang rivalries run high in these communities, as does drug use, the price of crystal and heroin is at it's lowest, and availability most prevalent.  Southern San Diego has many ties to the border, smuggling drugs, immigrants are common among elements of gang members.  A women was found zip tied off Interstate 5 near Palm City last week, she refused to cooperate with police, claiming she had zip-tied herself.

    4. Little choice... for the face tattoos? He was forced to do it? or he has no good life choices? Was he forced NOT to study? Or was he disenchanted with what little opportunities his Liberal Arts degree gets him..?

    8. SOrry I live in cv and new Robert well.SUper nice guy and fantastic skilled tattoo artist. The reason he was covered in tattoos was because it was his line of work to make a living. This guy was shot by a punk in an argument not drug related. freak accident. Oh and I think its his sons name tattooed on him who is now fatherless at 2 years old or so!

    9. I totally agree with you @12:19. This post is rediculous on a number of counts. They're trying to make it appear as if they know this is drug related just because it happens to be near the border. What a way to demonize an entire region right? Well I guess it's the American way.

  7. Whoever wrote this article is not familiar with tht area. It's far from a slum. Gangs are almsot unheard and this murder here struck most by surpise. She was connected with an otay gang. It was a set up. There's no gangsters is these areas anymore. If there is, they're OG's. No new breeds here.

  8. these sound like gang initiation crimes. They happen feom time to time and have no connection. They are most likely not even from the area.

  10. these sound like gang initiation crimes. They happen from time to time and have no genuine reason for happening except for gang initiation reasons. They're most likely not from the area.

  12. Well it seems that maybe she was involved in gangs...the boyfriend looks like a thug. Maybe she owed money or they killed her to send a message....put the boyfriend through A polygraph machine.....I bet there is more to the story. Usually the san diego police department don't investigate cases like the one mentioned on the article because is a waste of time and money....one less Chola to worry about......

  13. Probably talked too much and got somebody else in trouble or stole from wrong person, serious gang activity slowed down after 2000. Drug abuse made gang affiliations irrelevant. I don't live around there but already seen around 3-4 "tienditas" between main st & palomar. Palm city is also historically a drug hot spot for at least 25 plus years. People always getting shot, stabbed, robbed, maimed arrested or just plain out jump in front of trolley or off bridges.

  15. To was just browsing thru instagram this guy on the pic. Was just killed recently they had A go fund me link. I'm assuming he was the target and not thegirlfriend .. and since they failed the first time they finnally got him.

  16. I should clarify, the two men are the victims of the first shooting....The Palm City one, I believe the man on the left was killed. The boyfriend, or male walking with Pamela Burgos isn't pictured.

As for the areas, I know them well, I wouldn't say they are a destitute ghetto area, but they are def. known for gang violence, Pamela's murder happened in a slightly better neighborhood relatively speaking, but the area is what I would consider a slum. Yes, many families and good people, but also very low income, and zero to no upward mobility. Gang violence is common.

    1. Gang violence common in these areas? Maybe back in the 70's & 80's but fast foward 30 years and it really isn't common at all.

  17. Imperial beach an Industrial Slum? Lol i don't find your theory behind this story credible anymore. Do you even know what an industrial Slum is? Imperial beach is not one of them.

  19. And the guy saying Chula Police don't investigate. Your a Moron. The shield In Chula Vista expanded so much and usually solve alllll MURDERS. unlike the 80 percent go free rate in TJ. 98 percent of murderers go down in SD sorry.

  20. There are so many people that like to talk about the deceased in a disrespectful manner. These same people act as if they are above the people they speak poorly of because they are of superior race or class. If you were so superior and came from such nice neighborhoods and upbringings then where are your manners or morals? This man that was murdered was merely at the wrong place at the wrong time. He heroically gave his life to protect one of his family members from a random act of gang violence. Despite his tattoos and race that you clearly judge his personality and morality on he was a hardworking good hearted man that loves and supported his family. He was a highly paid and very successful person that has came from a neighborhood you deam a slum and ghetto, and despite people like yourselves persecuting and trying to hold him down he has made something of himself at an early age in life. Have you? Do you work for trump or the Fortune 500? I feel sorry for people like you that sit and make racist comments about a person you never met. Robert was a good man with a good soul and even bigger heart! He excepted everyone for who they were and loved them all the same. He was an amazing father and husband who lived life to the fullest. He was also very successful and made a substantial amount of money. So before you cast stones at a person and start bashing people online for whatever reason you might have ask yourselves what if this had been you or your brother or son or father or anyone close to you. Now please use your educations and good upbringings and act as if your parents raised you right.

  21. i've lived a half a block from where this happened for over 20 years and there are no gangs! you can hear a pin drop at night. we've never had this happen before so before you start dissing my neighborhood you better get your facts right anyone reading this don't believe it its a great area to live in we're still in shock that it happened so close to home!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The author of this article crealy has no idea, it's not first hand investigative journalism. There's no gangs in the area and the neighborhood is not a 'slum'.
