WIth government help autodefensas to clear criminal infiltrators

Chivis Martínez for Borderland Beat
Dr. Mireles in Nueva Italia
“Yesterday, there was a general meeting of the Council. We agreed to identify and clear out all the criminal element who have infiltrated.  Things are going well…. yesterday Tocumbo and Cotija was liberated”.

The above is part of a message from Dr Mireles.  He also sent the  Nueva Italia photo, taken a couple hours ago.  In the photo one can see how well he looks, and much healthier compared to how he appeared when he returned to Michoacán from his therapy.  Nueva Italia was liberated on Jan 13, 2014.  It appears that the return of Dr. Mireles has stabilized AD and provided the strong leadership needed for the group, and lifted the spirits of citizens.

In both  Tocumbo (below forming barricade) and Cotija (above) autodefensas arrived in the company of agents of the State Preventive Police, and set up barricades in the road access to the county.  Alberto Mendoza Contreras, Cotija municipal mayor confirmed the arrival of autodefensas.
Leaders of the self-defense of Michoacán along with the federal government agreed to "clean" their ranks from infiltrators. Spokesmen for the community guards, Dr Manuel  Mireles, Estanislao Beltran and Hipólito Mora met with Commissioner of Security, Alfredo Castillo and negotiated help in expelling those who are posing as autodefensas but are in reality criminals or having a criminal past, in order to maintain the moral authority of the group.
Other highlights of the meeting:
Autodefensas will refrain from entering the municipalities in urban areas (previous agreements was in the reverse, having AD in large urban areas with the government taking on the smaller towns)

Autodefensas agreed to share information with the Commission for Security and Integral Development of Michoacán.
Autodefensas to remove their barricades, in coordination with federal and state authorities, where they are no longer necessary "because of the presence of federal forces and organized groups themselves”

Recognized, was that in the south of Tierra Caliente, "security has improved considerably, because there is an atmosphere of calm and certainty."
Agreement for weekly meetings to be conducted between the autodefensas group, and the Commission for Security and Integral Development of Michoacán.  The agreements and progress are hoped to result in  gradual demobilization.
Autodefensas have stated from the onset,  their goal was to establish security in Michoacán, with the government conducting their duty in maintaining law and order in the region, and the capture of the seven “heads” of the Caballeros Templarios.

Padre Goyo (above in Apatzingán)
Padre Goyo announced on Wednesday he was taking a break and leaving to France for a couple of months.  Stating he was "Too tired, too angry, it is time to pause", was subsequent to the attempted ouster of the mayor of Apatzingán, Uriel Chavez Mendoza, the nephew of "EL Chayo", premier leader of Caballeros Templarios.

After Padre Goyo accused Chavez of being complicit in the disappearance of 300 Apatzingán residents, Chavez shot back accusing Padre Goyo of being a"viejo liar", a pedophile and a drug trafficker.

The much respected and loved priest, was enraged and filed a slander lawsuit.

I asked about Goyo and was told he remains in Apatzingán at this time.

Search Continues
Autodefensas have sent 300 members to the sierras to assist in the search from Chayo and La Tuta, they, along with federal forces, have identified the trail of the two maximum leaders of Caballeros Templarios.

Federal Police and AD working together..for now
Autodefensas and federal police,  working together continue making strides against organized crime.  As they work together in the sierras, they are executing important arrests on the plaza level.

An example is in the photo above, depicting yesterday   the moment of the arrest of a plaza chief by federal police and the autodefensas of Yurécuaro.

Javier Álvarez was stopped in a residential area, as he approached Churitnzio, a community 15 miles south of La Piedad.

His BMW was confiscated (shown in the photo)
The detainee is recognized as a plaza chief for Caballeros Templarios.  With him was found a book containing records of  quota collections and payroll payments.   These types of arrests are imperative in disrupting  organized crime activities on the regional level, and gathering  information as to who the membership consists of, and arrest those members as well.

  1. Thanks for the update Chivis. If the ADs and police/army can work together to acheive and maintain security its all good. I do not underestimate the mistrust of the police or army by the citizens. Mireles and the ADs are brave beyond words, but let us remember, many police or army have been killed by CT, and their families destroyed by grief. If brave people, whether AD or police or army, can work together against the criminal organizations, that is the last thing the CT want.

  2. in other good news, 21 people tied to kidnapping in Michoacan were also arrested, including the plaza chief for Zamora, whom I'm guessing is the guy who owns the beamer. 15 people were arrested as part of his group, and six others as part of a group that killed a doctor after being betrayed by his friend; a cab driver. Lets hope the judges put these guys away until they are too old to commit crimes when released.

  4. Also reported today, was the capture of an alleged founder and leader of CDG in Taxclo, GRO....His alleged crimes include drug dealing, kidnapping, and hydrocarbon (gasoline and diesel) theft. In other news, the Mexican Government is now targeting CTs Mineral, sawmill, and avacodo operations to limit their funds and ability thereof to finance criminal operations. I do hope CT doesn't resurface with a vengeance once the federal police and military leave the area

  5. finally, its been reported unofficially that former AD leader "El Americano" is now extorting and robbing people near the mines...probably why Mireles distanced himself from him...also read that the perpetrator of the 13 found in the narcofosa, joined the ADs...they do need to clean their ranks if they want to maintain credible

  6. The Good Doctor has hell of a story to tell. History will look favorably at this point in time in Mexico's time of transition. Hope he writes a book so we can share this mans courage with the rest of the world. Who said Mexico does not have role models?

  7. it was very confusing for me at first. hearing what tuta cheerleaders were saying against AD, in essence parroting what tuta says in his videos. stupid really, for anyone to believe a leader of killers, rapists, extortionists and durgtraffickers. the uneducated follow the piper rather than using research and logic.

It looks as though Dr Mireles is irreplaceable as chief of autodefensas. we saw what happened while he was MIA

    2. For sure. Although, a great leader, he cant do it all alone. This is going to take ppl who are just as determined as he to stop the violence!

yes that was a later version, I posted the most widely reported version, but either could be true and the core facts are the same:

it says that there were a group of CT killer/kidnappers of which the arrested man was a part of. the group kidnapped/killed multiple families. He then infiltrated AD to "hide" for a couple of months.

AD was given information from residents about the bastard and the location of the fosa, the info was given to authorities who made the arrest and using backhoe they excavated the area and found the bodies.

you are talking about el gordo, Abraham Zamora. but he is not the plaza chief, he is second in charge. reports are that they set up Zamora and 15 others and said he was the chief to allow them to slip away until things cooled down

the chief is Roberto Álvarez Linares alias "El Raton" or "El R"

that's why I didn't run the story, I bet gordo squeals like the pig he is though.

  16. i dint violate your policy yet i still get cencored for tryng to tell the truth to mi gente.

  22. The autodenfensa must not be disbanded until all the drug cartels are wiped out.
They are the best defence against these cartels.
As far as the authorities are concerned, they were proven that they can be bought or intimidated by the cartels into cooperating with them.

  24. Without local cooperation, the narcos can't operate successfully, or rely on security intelligence. From, Escobar , who, made a fan base from Colombia's poorest in every area wherehe ran his operations, to el hp Rodriguez Gacha, who enslaved the campesinos, forced into labor tending his coca plantations and working the jungle lab, these guys couldn't cut it without the poor campesinos or un pueblo de asustados. El pueblo es el poder, the movement is its own life force, its momentum gaining its strengths energized by necessity. GO MEXICO!

I thought you had something to say, instead its the same tired old rhetoric about how its someone else,s fault?Truly sad and pathetic it never ends?It really does get disillusioning to hear the same tired bogus excuses.

  26. @1:39 the comment by @9:16is putting blame where it traditionally belongs, the US is famous for being the backstabbing friend of latin america and whoever they are assigned to exploit or betray.
arcelor-mittal, the hindu company, has been sticking it to the US and any country that has any steel industry with unfair competition, by corrupting the political leadership, and nothing is said about its dirty operations, that mining and steelmaking co, and others like ternium plant nueva generacion de aquila do not say much about their internal fights, or the snuffing of the small and little independent miners, or the no pay politics played on them, or the agreements with the government producing new regulations to reign in those independent miners, who must work for the buyers of the influence that have the mexican government in the pocket, hindu laksmi mittal, billionaire owner of arcelor-mittal, headquartered on luxembourg, with operations based in england, with 2.5 employees in the office and hundreds of servants and drivers, english i guess.
mexico is so used to the US being the exploiter that the neoliberals now doing their dirty deeds, with their libertine shenenigans do not partake of the blame, the press do not publish much information, unless to say that the billionaire companys are "investing billions of dollars in the country" to save it from poverty, which is a lie of course, the US press so sensitive to lies and truths must have been bought to say nothing but praises, it is well known for seeing no evil, hearing no evil, and saying no evil, for $$$$$.
