Apatzingán Michoacán: autodefensas and supporters enter city hall demand resignation of mayor

Chivis Martínez for Borderland Beat

All three autodefensas leaders led the protest, at left is representative
of the Human Rights Commission
Hundreds of supporters of autodefensas marched to Apatzingán city hall and a group managed to enter, demanding the resignation of mayor Uriel Chavez.

While singing the Mexican national anthem, the people of Apatzingán, Michoacán, autodefensas supporters,  managed to enter the city hall, and called out for the mayor, who is the nephew of maximum Caballeros Templarios leader known as “el Chayo”..

Federal police escorted Chavez out of Apatzingán. Residents are incensed as they perceive the action of the federal police as interference and "protecting" Chavez, thereby delaying accountability and  formal resignation.

The action was observed by members of the Federal Police , in order to avoid a disturbance. People of the Chavez administration began exiting the corridors and the building of the mayor’s office, although a group of employees remained and continued their work.
Before the uprising, many city hall employees urged autodefensas  to oust the “Templarios Mayor”.  They report that Chavez charges all employees a narco tax.
Outdoors 200 employees of Chavez challenged autodefensas supporter and advisor, Father Goyo, warning  that any blood that will be shed, will be because of his bringing the autodefensas into Apatzingán.

At 9AM, before the arrival of autodefensas,  Chavez spoke to his employees.   Chavez called the catholic priest a "liar" for stating he had cartel connections.

"Everything the father Goyo says about me is false, viejo liar!"
Father Goyo shared with the press that it was discovered that Chavez has a plan in place to execute him.
Citizens note that Chavez dons a stainless steel bracelet given to those that complete a Templarios course in personal improvement and allegedly was a gift from his uncle Chayo.

The federal agents verified that all persons entered city hall unarmed.

  4. VIVA MEXICO! Sing it loud! Sing it proud! At the time the anthem was written, Mexico was still facing the effects of a bitter defeat in the Mexican-American War at the hands the United States. The country felt demoralized and also divided, due to the cession of more than half of its territory due to its defeat to the United States. According to historian Javier Garciadiego, who spoke at a 2004 ceremony commemorating the 150th anniversary of the anthem's adoption, the anthem disregards divisions and strife and encourages national unity. On that same date, Mexico City and other parts of the country stopped what they were doing and performed a nationwide singing of the anthem. Individuals from other nations participated, mostly at diplomatic offices or at locations where a high concentration of Mexican expatriates are found. The anthem has also been described as one of the symbols of the "Mexican identity". (Wikipedia).

    1. The problem with Mexico is its tradition of corruption and divisions within its society. Mexico doesn't lose no wars if it weren't for betrayals/treachery from it's leaders. A problem we see today with Mexico's politicians selling out its people to the cartels and it's resources to foreign interests. Most of the so-called Hispanic population of the U.S.A. is of Mexican ancestry or origan -- 35 million(65%); furthermore, most of us live in states that were former territories of Mexico. La nacion Mexicana is much bigger than it's borders. Y si señor, VIVA MÉXICO!! " MEXICANOS A LISTO DE GUERRA.."

  6. I don't know if this will go over well. Most of the citizens of Apatzingan still support Chavez AND the Templarios. Let's not forget that if all citizens were wise to the fact that the CT weren't "a brotherhood to protect the community", the CT would not have enjoyed the same protection from these communities.
I'm not from Apatzingan, but am from nearby and have family there, so this opinion comes from the ground.

Then they would be killers and not self defense groups...i think they are doing the right by just defending themselves, once they start killing people, they might not stop and that's how death squads get started, which would be another problem the region doesn't need. I understand your rage though.

You're right. We might see something similar to the 'Free El Chapo' protest in Sinaloa. Majority of Michoacan still think autodefensas are corrupt and templarios are there to help them. This will not change unless the autodefensas begin to hand out money to simple minded citizens and tell them they will marry their daughters.

Perhaps more than always being there, the borders will be erased by the self immolation of the american middle class or the selling out by the US political and military leadershipwhose only aim is to be nice enough to catch a big goverrnment contract to "try" to fix a problem of their own creation, without delivering.
The second world war was done and over with in 5 years, for gosshakes! On vietnam the US could not even declare war on about 15 years, in th 10 year woolly head war, and on the 13 year war still going on against the other woolly heads that do not even have camels anymore, unless they are for smoking, somebody is trying to make true john mc cain's dream of a 100 years stay in iraq, america itself is diluting its borders, by spreading itself too thin all over the world, with no end in sight...

Another statement full o ignorance. The two o you are a matched set.

    Look at a map, fool.
Every Mexican is an American, just as every Canadian is American, just as every Brazilian is American.

There is a North America and South America, some would even claim there is a 'Central America, but that is much more difficult to define, geographically.

America is not a polity, a nation, it is a land mass.

There are approximately ninety 'states' in North America, alone.
The 49 United States that are in America, the 31 states of Mexico, the 10 provinces in Canada. Then south to the Darien in Panama, it gets a tad more complicated, as that would be 'Central America', if there really is one.

  30. @5:40 for thegovernment to accept autodefensas in other states, some executives of their biggest businesses will have to be killed by the DTO's sicarios, in michoacan the federal government never cared about the abuses against the people or the indiference of the local authorities.
only the death of Arcelor-Mittal executive Virgilio Camacho, (port and city of
Lazaro Cardenas) for sticking it up the ass to medium and small mining enterprises with his accords with the government, and conflicts with Ternium Planta Nueva Generacion de Aquila mining, with the shipping port of Colima (Manzanillo), i know mining companies can be bitches, and arcelor-mittal is the biggest and most cunning, not for nothing his owner is so rich, specializing in destabilizing state owned companies in england, the former ussr, rumania, poland, england, ireland, the US!!! and taking them over for peanuts, same as Carlos Slim Helu took over telefonos de mexico, to become the richest man in the world, (after the unmentionable Elan de Rothschild and co. who nobody knows is ten times richer than Slim, but daddy made him rich).
if it wasn't for arcelor-mittal, fucking pena nieto would have squashed the autodefensas from day one...
more facts are needed about how SICARTSA was destabilized to the point that arcelor-mittal took it over for peanuts, starting with the takeover of the Sindicato de Trabajadores Mineros Metalurgicos y Similares de la Republica Mexicana, and replacing the leadership for even worse charro leaders than it had, the coahuila miner owners use a lot of underpaid laborers, and the zetas on michoacan must have had something to do with stealing from sicartsa, soon as arcelor- mittal took over, they kicked the zetas in the ass, next was la familia michoacana, financed by the mineras siderurgicas and using the templadas cartel, after killing mr.Camacho, it is time to go for the ct.
---THE WAY ALMOST NOBODY REPORTS ANYTHING ABOUT THE MINING COMPANIES IS A TELLTALE SIGN OF THEIR INVOLVEMENT---
aguacates, mis huevos y limones para las coronas, the fuckin' mineras are sneaky paragons of corruption, and the mining engineers sold their arses to foreign mining companies a long time ago, i saw rooms futbol field size full of pallets loaded with silver ingots and truckloads of gold on the REAL del MONTE mine in Pachuca Hidalgo, and i believe it was all stolen and gone soon after, the people were too busy watching telenovelas, box and lucha libre, and the unions got broken up to pave the way for the global powers that be to take over everything and nobody said anything...

the monroe doctrine does not say if indians, balcks or mestizos need apply, and we have not partaked of much of the richess the american continent had to offer, unlike the real americans that have manipulated our wars of independence and our revolutions, even the cuban revolution, that refused to pay the favors until che guevara was drawn to bolivia, and murdered, to seal the pact, and cacaine trafficking through cuba with raul castro's air force could start, general arnaldo ochoa chief of the cuban armed forces, hero of the angola wars of liberation with che guevara, and popular rival of the castro brothers, pled guilty and went to the fire squad like a man,
che guevara accepted his fate too, it was only a man getting killed, camilo cienfuegos, cute and popular, was another impediment on the way of the revolution, he was gone in no time, cuba made a
pretty peso off drug trafficking at the time, lehder and escobar did profit but didn't last , what happened to their money, by the way?
see jay, not all of us are equal on our own countries, much less on the american continent of the "americans", it is not about the geography, it is about the politics of imperialism and economic exploitation...
