Update: Positive indentification of Chapo Guzman-Arrested members "gave information"

Borderland Beat
Chapo's condo below, where apprehension occurred:

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera, leader of the Sinaloa cartel, was captured, officials confirmed the United States and Mexico.  According to reports, the drug dealer last night was located by soldiers and the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in a hotel in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, while he was on a visit.  The operation also was collaborated with  U.S. intelligence, officials said.

PGR is performing DNA testing to ensure the arrested man's identity is Guzman.
For five days, Sinaloa was a target of the authorities, mainly from the Marina and the PGR, which began with a series of raids in search operations for  "El Chapo" and Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.
At one raids conducted on February 20th,  the Navy raided the  property  owned by Griselda Pérez López, former wife of capo.
At that location they  arrested Jesús Peña González "El 20" and other members of the cartel, who provided information the authorities.
The Sinaloa cartel leader faces multiple federal drug charges in the United States and is on the list of most wanted DEA.  His drug empire stretches throughout North America, but also reaches as far away as Europe and Australia .
In January 19, 2001, “Chapo”  escaped from  Puente Grande prison, located in Jalisco, exiting while hidden in a laundry basket..  REFORMA published on January 19 of his  13 years of evasion.  The federal government was betting the recapture of the Sinaloa leader with screening of family, friends, partners and managers who protected him.
The Security Cabinet prepared , mid last year, a detailed report of his inner circle, information which was updated in October.  Including biographical information documenting 70 family members, employees and  other persons close to the inner circle..  Additionally in the report are rare photographs of these people, including  seven romantic partners of the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and their children.

According to the report, the Guzman last decade has remained, most of the time, hidden in inaccessible areas of the Golden Triangle, mainly in the six points of Sinaloa and 12 in Durango .
In more than five years, the government only detected  "El Chapo" in two urban areas:  Culiacan Sinaloa and Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. In both places he escaped.

Announcement----"Chapo used 7 tunnels to move between buildings (homes)", the operation was "flawless", and identification process occurred this morning (paraphrased):

Lalo introduces AG Jesus Murillo Karan, Semar Chief Vidal Soberon Sanz, Defense Department commander Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda, CISEN Secretary Manuel Mondragon DeKalb.

Karam: Hello. At  6:40 this morning Semar personnel arrested (Chapo Guzman) in Mazatlan, along with a collaborator. We made you wait this long for a press conference because we wanted to be completely sure of his identity, which has now been done by PGR investigators. We are 100% certain. He has been examined by doctors and shortly will be transferred to an appropriate prison.

This operation took several months of work and planning between all Federal agencies who have collaborated on this matter, and the arrest was performed impeccably by Semar personnel.

During this last month, this operation had several definitive moments leading to the capture. From February 13 to February 17, we located several homes where he was in the habit of staying. The 7 homes were connected by tunnels to other homes in the area and to the sewer drainage system. The doors to the homes were steel reinforced, and the few minutes it took to get through them were enough to allow them (suspects) to escape through the tunnels.

Be the investigation was so thorough and complete that we continued to follow up. (We kept up with Chapo) constantly and could have taken him on several occasions. But we used caution and common sense and chose to take him in a way that did not endanger the public. We took him down without a shot being fired, with nobody hurt.

This coordination between all (Mexican) security agencies also had information from certain U.S. agencies. This arrest is the 75th arrest of the targets we said we were going to get. We will keep working to make Mexico safer.

I just want to say that in this simple operation, we seized the following:

13 detainees
97 rifles (armas largas)
36 pistols (armas cortas)
2 grenade launchers
1 missile launcher
43 vehicles, 19 of which were armored
16 homes
4 ranches,
etc

This is a clear demonstration of the effort we are making in this country to disarm organized crime groups.
Thank you.

  6. Number one, who cares who gave him up? Number two why publish speculation on a possible "rat" if you do not know for sure who gave him up. Everyone knows it was an informant that provided information, but you do not know who, so why speculate? And why would you refer to someone who cooperated with authorities to do the right thing and rightfully cooperated with authorities to turned in a brutal criminal referred to as a "rat?" You should be ashamed, this is not what BB reputation is known for, sleaze.

  13. Per last sentence in above post "Announcement----but no Chapo; "Chapo used 7 tunnels to move between buildings", the operation was "flawless", and identification process occurred this morning."

7 tunnels where? Does not make sense.

    1. Yeah! The 7 tunnels bit caught my eye, too. Read a while back about Chapos' residences in Buenos Aires, Argentina, way back when... Apparently, DEA watched these homes for 4 yrs. When, they raid one of these places, not only was it totally empty- ni muebles, ni nada-but a number of tunnels were discovered. Chapo is said to have already been on a commercial flight out of B.A. w/ his family, using his real name, at the time the DEA stormed his home.

I am not for any cartel, But the cartels like Zetas, BLO, and Templars have got to be exterminated, I don't necessarily fear a cartel that deals exclusively with drugs. The USA is the biggest consumer of drugs in the World by far. The more you try and stop illegal drugs from coming in the more lucrative you make it for the drug cartels to profit. Plain and simple don't do drugs!!!!

  26. It is well known in Sinaloa that Caro Quintero attended a party held in his honor by the Carrillo brothers. That takes balls when he knows that they are fighting with Chapo and Mayo. Everything indicates Caro is back to take what belongs to him and it is said that Caro was behind the murder of Pancho Arellano. It is said that he despises the Arellano's. They killed a lot of people back in the day and I'm guessing some of Caro's relatives were victims. Caro was protected by PRI as they were the one and only Cartel, so Pena Nieto is ran by the old PRI. Giving power back to one Cartel will stop the violence in Mexico.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Arellanos were the ones who broke apart what Caro and Gallardo put together back in the days, El Chapo was the only one to fight back and still kept alive what they stated going strong to make one unified mafia.

  31. We must remember that this is organized crime were talking about. The structure is in place for el Cartel de Sinaloa to continue operations without missing a beat. I'm sure a plan for somebody to assume the leadership was in place in the event of Chapo's capture. His remaining 5 sons will make moves to solidify the Guzman family's empire. The three amigos meeting in Toluca certainly was the impetus for the capture of Chapo. EPN needed to show Obama/U.S. govt. results for all the money the U.S. is spending in training/arming/equipping SeMar marines and Mx.'s intelligence services. The funding of Mexico's security forces/DEA has paid off!! Expect congress to approve more funding for upcoming budget calendar.

  38. Something isn't right with this story. They confiscate all those weapons and not one person manages to fire a shot? Mexico is taking the credit for this but I guarantee it was the United States who provided all of the information and planning for the arrests/seizures/etc... What is the Mexican gov't doing to ensure that he doesn't escape? I really don't see him being held in mexico safely without some sort of escape attempt or cartel operation to overtake the prison.

The idiot's doing business in Mexico act like a bunch of cowboys and lost control of their soldiers and now their being picked off one by one and it's their own fucking fault. It's always been keep your business private and the vast majority of the time you'll be left alone, bring amateurs and fools in they like to play gunslinger and act impulsively and it attracts negative attention and everybody's business hurts, as you all know now. One can hope that some professionals exist in Mexico will cleanse it's self of all the loose canon's and quit fucking around with the public damn it, if they take Chapo they will take all of you.

As soon as EPN is glorified for taking down chapo, he will be justified in taking down the autodefensas. The auto defensa movement was gaining steam and EPN had to do something drastic to curb its momentum.

    3. Chapo did not turn himself in because of that. The HEAT was on him and the Arrellanos after the incident at the airport with the cardinals death. El Chapo fled to Guatemala and was purchasing property. It was AMADO CARRILLO that turned him in (Chapo worked for him at the time) because Chapo was hard to control, he was always parttying, killing, disobeying orders etc. And he saw this incident as the now or never chance to put him away. Chapo feared the Arrellanos and much as they feared him, he walked in HIMSELF into Christine nightclub in Puerto Vallarta and attempted to kill the Arrellanos when he could have sent his sicarios.

  44. As it always is when a leader falls there's always fights for the leadership & plaza. Though 'Mayo' Zambada is supposed to take leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel I think there will be other CDS members who will not agree or prefer to make their own gangs.

I also believe the BLO/Zeta gangs will make a move in moving in more hitmen to Sinaloa state.

I feel like Mayo could have given up Chapo. Everyone in this kind of business is paranoid. Mayo probably thought Chapo would give him up soon just like the other CDS members. Mayo decided to strike first. But im not saying that's what happened. It could have been that SEMAR with US did their own job capturing CDS members without the assistance of rats and Mayo became suspicious of Chapo. Because weren't the recent captured CDS members from Mayo's side of the cartel?

Again these are simply questions and theories im giving. I'm not saying these are facts.

  52. If you're interested to see where he was arrested, you can find the hotel (Hotel Plaza Marina Mazatlan) on google maps by googling "608 Av. Del Mar No. 73 Mazatlan". This is the hotel shown in Buggs' article 'News of Chapo Arrest'.

I'm really interested to see the outcome of his arrest. Presumably it won't affect the cartel's operations much, but he may give up valuable information. And no doubt EPN will take more undeserved credit...

I took a screenshot of my newsfeed so I can remember in years to come the feeling of first seeing the headline :)

Yay let's celebrate the capture of el Chapo which will maybe lead the cartel to split and have inner-fighting and his enemies will probably want to take back their plazas that were taken away by CDS which will lead to more blood-shed and killings of innocent people in the process, enjoy your happiness for a while cause "I think" some crazy shit is about to go down... but lets hope it doesn't

Why aren't the real crooks being brought to justice the people who supplied the guns who started the killings? $$$$$$ it will make u snitch and quick to get you stitched up!

and thank you to everyone who emailed and sent info in. Amazing show of support. I wasn't able to read all the emails as of yet, but I appreciate the effort more than I can express...

Honestly, no matter what the pundits are saying, this will change little at the end of the day. People will be on a high, but catching capos is not a proven theory. At times it can worsen a situation, and increased violence, as cartels war to pick up territory.

I will check back later, but I think that is all for now......Paz, Chivis

    Chicago is Obama's hometown.
Chicago is suffering from a huge increase in murders, drug overdoses, gangbanging and addiction. The city is a cesspool of murder and addiction! All thanks to a huge influx of Chapo`s poison.
So, Chicago recently bestowed on Chapo the title of Chicago's Most Wanted Criminal!
Chapo didn`t have enough political bribe money to stop this political power!

    1. Listen fool I'm from ChiTown a lot of violence in Chicago has to do with black on black crime or at random shootings and gang banging not Just drugs that's just a small contribution to violence . The government makes it sound like it's all chapo . Chapo does have a hub here because the demand for drugs is here . They just wanna use chapo as a scapegoat cause they can't get a grip on the violence here. And fuck Rahm Emanuel crooked ass mayor from a corrupt city of chicago.

    2. I agree with 7:10. I'm from Nashville having to travel a lot to Chicago, and the crimes in Chicago are not related to drugs. The problem in all of Americas is that there are no regards to life and morals. Until people start taking responsibility in raising their children, the world is going to be more dangerous.

remember this was a joint effort with the US...they are 100% sure, and remember they have his fingerprints on file. It was reported a DNA was taken

but fingerprints also equal a positive ID. can't duplicate fingerprints.

  102. chivaaa! all your admirers are annoying because they represent so much competition, and the worst of your detractors are the most frustrated because you are so safely away from their claws, we are happy that you are there for us, like our lost mama... mother hen.
Whatever chapo did, we can't miss that many more of us admire and respect the fact that chapo is not being accused of killing or kidnapping women or children, or poor migrants from south-america, ater torturing them, or making them into gusos or pozole; he did his business without preying on innocent people, let's see how the replacements behave, his fall can be chalked to the demands for pacifying the mexican land for the TPP
(the Trans-Pacific Partnership) that consumes the US/canada/mexico's governments, that has bolivia, guatemala, venezuela, chile, panama, peru, etc, etc, allied against anything the US dictates, sponsored by spain, england, france... and all other countries from the european union trying to recover from the stupid austerity politics that delivered all their money to the big international bankers, now trying to involve the US on many other unwinable wars in syria, libya, iran, ukrainia, and back to irak, they will finance the wars, the people of the US will furnish the dead, the bankers will make more money, and their mercenary armies will be kept busy and happy with a few more coins from the judas budget from the pharisees and the phylistines, chapo is no more than a little squeezed bug in the middle of a garbage sea when compared to the size of the real enemy of the world, the big international vulture capitalists that move things their way, no matter who falls by the wayside, which is happenning to the US, soon the US armies will be paid with maruchan if they are lucky, all the money will be allocated to private contractors after they get done with taking away school lunches from children, one of the goals of the reagan administration.
really, the goals of the vultures of the world have no shame or limit, unlike chapo, who has more morals and ethics in the nail of his little finger than all the economic vultures of the world and their condor operations together.
