THE MISSING SIX SECONDS

By DD for Borderland Beat

If it were not Mexico and Televisa, this would be unbelievable.

We have all heard for years that the mass media is controlled by just a few people.  And that mass media can control what the mass of the people think because it (primarily television) is the source of news for most people.  This is especially true in underdeveloped or developing countries where the majority of the people do not have internet access.  So it shouldn’t surprise us that a television network puts its own spin on the news.  But to blatantly alter the facts of a story to serve its own agenda should shock even the most cynical.

China, North Korea, and other closed societies are the extreme examples of this with government owned and operated media censoring the news, even on the internet, and only telling the people what the government wants them to know.

For me, Mexico and its “free press” is a conundrum.  The print media is a “free press”, but is often controlled by the government through economic coercion (withholding govt. advertising),  From 1935 to 1990, the govt. had a monopoly on newsprint and all newspapers had to buy from the government.

The media is also controlled in many instances by organized crime through intimidation by violence and murder of reporters and editors.   This results in “self-censorship” by the media.  I remember the story of one reporter who wrote a story on a cartel’s illegal activities in her city and was subsequently threatened with her life.  In fear, she went to her editor and reported the threat.  He told her she needed to make a personal apology to the cartel and tell them she would never do that again.

The International Press Institute and Reporters Without Borders rank Mexico as the most dangerous place in the world for journalist.

But that doesn’t explain the enigma of Televisa, the largest Spanish language television broadcaster in the world.  I am not sure if it is the voice, the mouthpiece of PRI (for all practical purposes that is the same as the government), or is it the power behind the throne in Mexico?

It’s owners are high on the list of the wealthiest in Mexico.  Not all of that wealth has come from broadcasting revenues.  It is one of the largest owners of casino’s in Mexico, along with other wealthy Mexicans such as the Rhon family who have suspected ties to drug trafficking cartels.  Casinos have historically had ties to organized crime and casinos and banking (which the Rhon family is heavily involved with) are notorious vehicles for laundering drug money.

In a country where it is estimated that as few as 1% of the population reads a daily newspaper, Televisa with 85% of the television broadcast market has a tremendous impact on what people think and the news they receive.

The latest example of Televisa shaping and falsifying the news is the interview with Dr. Jose Manuel Trevino.  In the video broadcast by Televisa Dr. Mireles said the self-defense forces would disarm and return to their hometowns in compliance with an agreement he had made with the Secretary of the Interior, Osario Chong and the Governor of Michoacan, Fausto Vallejo..

To those of us who had followed Dr. Mireles emergence as a leader of the civil-defense movement, this was shocking.  It went against everything he had said in the past.  Comments such as;

**“there is no one person from the general council that can authorize or overrule anything, the full council would have to be there to discuss the issue, as to why they would want to disarm or arm.”  The leaders work for the people and take orders from the people; and the people express themselves though the General Council.

**”That's the tragedy for this government. They have already warned me to keep my mouth shut or they will come and pick me up, people from the same system itself, the government itself….And I want to make it very clear: the threats are not coming from the Templarios, and there will be more evidence coming out.

**”We know that the General Secretary of the Government does want to help put a stop to all of this, they do! But obviously, they have to rely on the state government even if it's not worth a single cent.......it's necessary for the federal government to help us, to pressure the state government so it will not be so vicious, so brazen. They keep picking up innocent people and killing them, saying, "These are the men who murdered the congressman," when the people who were with him saw their faces because they were not even covered.

**”And to this day, we have not seen any response by the state to defend the people. .....Not one leader of the cartels has been arrested…..We are no longer afraid of being murdered by the Templarios. We're afraid of being murdered by the state because we are affecting their interests.  Dr. Mireles interview  Oct. 8

Understandably it was hard for us to believe the comments coming out of Dr. Mireles mouth in this latest interview (the version broadcast by Televisa) that the civil defense members would disarm themselves and go home..

As he said in the above earlier  comments and many more, neither he, nor the self-defense movement trusted the state and local governments;  that the state was a bigger threat to the movement than the cartels; that he did not make  decisions for the movement to, only the people did that speaking through the General Council.  He and other leaders have said that if they disarm and go home and rely on the state for protection of their homes and families, they are dead.

What had changed his mind?

Then the bombshell of the story came with news of the deleted audio from the interview – six seconds of missing audio, as reported on Borderland Beat by Chivis. (link below).  Kind of like the missing 18 minutes from Nixon’s White House tapes.

But in this case, Televisa only had to delete a few seconds of tape.  Yet those few seconds could have a huge impact on the future of Mexico.

In those deleted few seconds, Dr. Mireles said that “when the 7 leaders of the Templars were apprehended by the authorities and the rule of law restored”.  Then the Televisa  video continued with the audio that “the movement would disarm and it’s members would return to their hometowns...  With the altered audio, Mireles was saying that as a result of the meeting  between and Mich. Governor Fausto Villejo, the self-defense movement would honor the request of Osario that they disarm.  What the video actually said when the missing six seconds is included is Dr. Mireles saying  'when the 7 heads of the cartel were apprehended and the rule of law restored they would disarm and go home.

A huge change in the meaning of what he said.

Why would Televisa alter the video?

If the self-defense movement does not disarm and go home, the version of the video presented by Televisa gives the government the excuse to use force to disarm and disband the “vigilantes” because they broke the agreement that Dr. Mireles had allegedly made according to the Televisa interview..  without an outcry from the people of Mexico and the world.

How would elimination of the self-defense movement benefit Televisa?

In addition to strengthening it’s ties/control of PRI, it eliminates a potential threat of a new power (the people) arising that it cannot control.  It thereby ensures the continuation of impunity it has enjoyed for at least the last few decades.  Those ties go back many years.  Televisa’s founder and CEO said in the mid 1990s “ I am but a foot soldier for PRI”.

Nixon’s 18 missing minutes helped bring down a Presidency.  The six missing seconds of audio on the Televisa interview should be just as big a story in the world media.

The missing six seconds in the following Televisa video are at 3:37 in the Televisa video and the sound comes back at 3:43. Both the Televisa version of the interview and the version with the missing 6 seconds included can be viewed at the post by Chivis below.

  2. What is a puzzlement to me...not that Televisa pulled a fast one, but that Mireles would not wait to give them and interview after he replayed his message to journalists he trusts. if at all. It totally took the autodefensas off guard, at first.

  4. Mexican TV Tycoon Azcarraga To Expand Televisa's Reach to U.S. English-Speakers

Billionaire Emilio Azcarraga Jean, owner and CEO of Mexican TV powerhouse Grupo Televisa SAB, announced this week a new alliance between Spanish-language broadcaster Univision and a division of ABC News to launch a one-of-a-kind English-only cable network geared toward second- and third-generation Hispanics who don’t speak Spanish.

The new cable TV channel, which will also appeal to mainstream Americans, will significantly strengthen the share Mexico’s number one broadcast TV network has in the increasingly influential Hispanic population. The University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business estimated that the buying power of Hispanics will rise to $1.5 trillion in 2015, 11 percent of the nation’s total buying power.

ABC is Disney and is home to Bill Clinton's Press Secretary, who hosts a Sunday 'News" program.

President Pena does not tell Emilio Azcarraga Jean what to put on the news, no, I'd bet anyone an Amero to a doughnut that it is Emilio Azcarraga Jean who tells Mr Pena what is news.

  6. Wikipedia will tell you this about Mr Clinton and the drug trade, it is a 'sanitized version' of the story, to be sure

    CIA drug trafficking

A number of allegations have been made about the use of Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport as a CIA drop point in large scale cocaine trafficking, beginning in the latter part of the 1980's.

Several local, state, and federal investigations have taken place in relation to these allegations.

The topic has received some press coverage that has included allegations of awareness, participation and/or coverup involving prominent figures such as
    Bill Clinton,
    George H. W. Bush,
    George W. Bush,
    Governor Jeb Bush and
Saline County prosecutor Dan Harmon (who was convicted of numerous felonies including drug and racketeering charges in 1997).

The Mena airport was also associated with Adler Berriman (Barry) Seal, an American drug smuggler and aircraft pilot who flew covert flights for the CIA and the Medellín Cartel

During the Clinton presidential administration (1993-2001), there were accusations ... that Clinton, during his time as governor of Arkansas, and other high-ranking state officials were involved in some way with alleged illegal cocaine importation, money laundering, and drug use centered upon the airport in Mena.

These allegations have been disputed by several different investigations, including one by the Banking Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

  13. Televisa is the disgusting propaganda division of the grotesque, venal, corrupt, rich ruling class in Mexico that PRI represents.

It's an absolute disgrace that in country with over 100 million people, the ruling Televisa clique can't find a single mestizo or indigena to appear on their screen.

Soap opera stars and talking heads that look they're from Norway. If you want to see brown mestizo talent, look to the USA, where they're treated better than by their white lords in Mexico.

Are you gonna keep siding with the coruption, or with the ordinary hard working people of Mexico. muchos nos comentan que quienes son los detenidos el dia de hoy según SEGOB uno de ellos alias "el alegreti " honestamente les decimos que jamas habíamos tenido el nombre de ese criminal y créanme que la gente nos reporta desde jefes de plazas hasta sicarios , en los reyes tenemos casi la estructura completa del CO(Crimen organizado) de la entidad y de verdad JAMAS habíamos oído de tal sujeto , quizá sea un halcón , sicarios o similar pero no es ni jefe de plaza de la zona.

A lot of people have been asking, who is this guy "el alegreti" they arrested today. Honestly, I have to tell you, we've never heard of this guy. And believe me, we have info about the bosses and their hitmen. In Los Reyes here (where this guy was arrested), we have the names of most of the entire structure of the the CT in the state, and we've NEVER heard of this guy. He might be a lookout, a hitman, or something, but he's not a leader of the cartel.

  19. Televisa has been involved with drug smuggling from their beginning. Luis Alberto Azcarraga Milmo the brother of Emilio Azcarraga Milmo(father of the current owner of Televisa) and both sons of Televisa founder Emilio Azcarraga Vidaurreta was ARRESTED entering the USA with 19 kilos of heroin on August 26, 1971. He was driving a new model truck(at the time) a 1970 Dodge with license plate # 57-PXF with 19 Keys of heroin in the spare tire. Federal judge Laurence Mann set bail at $250,000 that was not paid so he was booked at the Webb County jail in Laredo, Texas. He pled guilty to Fderal judge Ben Clarkson Connally on November 10, 1971 only to escape from jail six days later on November 16, 1971. Has not been seen since and US nor Mexican authorites seemed worried about his whereabouts. Fourty-one year later on August 20, 2012 in Nicaragua 18 people in SIX Televisa vanS where BUSTED with 9.2 million US dollars. Televisa claimed the VANS did not belong to them but they where REGISTERED(and NONE reported stolen or missing) to Televisa by the same people that registers their other working vans with original Televisa documentation. Not to mention that the vans where bequipped(just like their other vans) with very very very expensive professional tv equipment(around a million dollars worth of equipment) that is only sold at a hand full of places. Not hard to find out who sold the equipment, who bought it and how they where paid. But when NO ONE authority wants to look, it becomes very hard to find out.

  24. What the Pro- PRI Televisa network attempted to carry-out by deleting, apart from falsifying the story, those 6 seonds from the Mireles interview, was to draw a schism within the ADs movement, sow doubt, and calling their bluff in the hopes they would end their march and lay down their arms/go home. Didn't work. The ruling elites, the PRIISTAS, and Televisa are starting to shake in their boots in fear thinking this movement might continue to march beyond Michoacan's border. I grew up watching Televisa programming. For the most part, Univision's programming comes from Televisa, except the news and a few other programs. Always has been. Their s monopoly in Mexico, and Univision is almost one for Spanish programming in the U.S. Televisa at one point owned Univision in the U.S.A. until U.S. govt. made them sell Univision ownership -- probably FCC/FTC. Their soap operas, the most popular the world over, misrepresent the true culture of Mexico since many of their actors in lead roles are foreign, blonde, fair skinned and blue eyed regardless of country of origin. Many of the brown skinned are relegated to roles as maids, poor campesinos/urban dwellers, or ranch hands. Their always pulling those stunts of falsifying stories, however, the ramifications of their media distortions might hav more serious repercussions this time around.

Accusing casinos of having ties to organized crime is like saying the sky is blue.

I believe only 1% of the American public reads newspapers. The U.S.A's T.V. networks also mind control the American public. They inform on only what they want you to know. The elites of this country are untouchable and most of the serious negative stories of the powerful politicians have no press. Disney, Comcast, Time Warner, Viacom, and News Corporation own all national media networks/stations. Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, FOX, owns networks in the U.K. and Australia also.

  25. The missing six seconds should not be a surprise to anyone, the elites not only of Mexico, but of this planet have always tried to make it look as thou it was not their fault violence was resorted to it was the only way. No, the elites don't want to look like the filthy scum that they really are but it's a rare event that they actually get caught directly in their lie. One can only hope that this total violation of trust between the media and public is proof enough of what people have been saying for a long time, that the major media of this world is owned and operated not for the masses but for a very few, it's basically a propaganda tool to misinform the masses. Televisa being caught in this fraud is just another piece in the puzzle that I truly believe will link the very top of the drug trade to major elite's of the world and backed by the various representative governments. Since we already know that drug money is used by I bet every major spy agency in the world to hide their treasonous activity they are involved in everyday. If the whole story could finally come out I think a lot of people would be surprised just how manipulated the people of the world really are so a very few families, basically the master criminals of history, have control over the major resources of this planet. I think that we are seeing these families start to get very scared that their time of judgement is at hand and believe me as totally corrupt as they are they will not hesitate to murder as many people as they need to try and hide their crimes once again. I just wish the public was not so easily swayed by the lies told, but I really think that most people just want to live their lives and don't think anything can ever be done about it. As one person it is true nothing can be done, but if people would set aside the bullshit used to keep us apart i.e., racism, nationalism, sexism, etc. and come together and actually dismantle what has been going on on this planet for centuries we may actually find a better world to live in some day.

  28. I found this article on laprensa.hn

A First For Televisa? It Tells The Truth - About The Missing Six Seconds In Dr. Mireles Interview

It is from a site called The Mex.Files.

Either it slipped by the news editors at Televisa or they were trying to cover their ass.
Here is a story from Mex Files:

On his Monday evening Televisa news broadcast — by far the most viewed newscast in a country where close to 90 percent of the population gets its news from television, anchorman José López Dóriga presented a video of Michoacán self-defense group leader Dr. José Manuel Mireles calling for the groups to disarm and to not oppose the Army units sent into the state that afternoon (just as the self-defense groups were preparing to drive out the last pockets of “Knights Templar” gangsters).

Dr. Morales denied having said what López Dóriga reported, but his denials were seen only on youtube videos and similar alternative media… although — in what appears to be something of a first for Televisa, Denise Maerker, imageson Tuesday night’s late night (11.15 PM) news program Punto de Partida, aired evidence that the López Dóriga video was manipulated … as Dr. Mireles claimed. What the country doctor turned guerrilla leader had said was that the self-defense groups would lay down their arms WHEN the government arrested the leaders of the Knights Templars. Something quite difference from allowing themselves to be put under military occupation in their own country, by their own army… with no guarantees that the gangsters they’d been fighting will be punished.

Though, one expects — as has happened before — Sra. Maerker will be looking for a new job soon.

  35. Good on Denise Maerker, she was one of the first journalists to give the self defense groups proper and fair coverage, although for what I remember it was mostly from a radio program she also has, she also put the interim Michoacán governor in a tight spot by asking him about contradictions between official versions and testimonies from locals, self defense groups and photos. That was back in March or early April when most of the media didn´t aknowledge the existence of this struggle in Tierra Caliente, she earned my respect back then.
