"Lalo" Moreira Son of Humberto Moreira Executed In Acuna

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat

Cold blooded execution

Jose Eduardo Moreira Rodriquez, 28,   was shot and killed in Acuna Coahuila tonight at around 9:15PM on the road to Santa Eulalia.  Also known as “Lalo”, he is the  son of Humberto Moreira, the former Governor of Coahuila and federal  PRI party president.  Lalo’s uncle is the governor of Coahuila.
His death is described as a cold blooded execution, and it is rumored to be a cartel killing.  Los Zetas control the city of Acuna.  Acuna has experienced violence in the past few weeks, none of which has been reflected in the news.
Acuna is located and hour from Piedras Negras, where violence has erupted since the prison break in which 131 prisoners escaped.  Strange circumstances surround the killing, as Lalo was alone at the time of his death, without his bodyguard, and he was driving his armored vehicle yet he felt secure enough to exit his vehicle, which lends the probability that he knew his attackers.  His body was riddled with bullets.

Del Rio Texas is adjacent to Acuna.  The road he was killed on is one that lies in the outskirts of the city and it runs past the maquila row.  He was said to be in the area to attend a function for a new project he was involved in.  The road is somewhat desolate at night but it is a quicker way to maneuver around the city.
                                                              Lalo and Lucero Moreira
Baby Jose Eduardo with his grandfather
Lalo was very respected in Acuna for his work with impoverished people.  He was the regional coordinator of social programs of the Department of State Development.  His latest project was home repairs for the poor such as roof replacements.

According to a statement released by Daniel Pinal,  Humberto Moreira, the former governor wrote: "They killed my son, Jose Eduardo, a young clean, social  promoter who used to work with the most humble people of Acuña, Coahuila".

My foundation had the opportunity to work with Lalo after the floods from hurricane Alex, and I found him to be a sincere, dedicated, compassionate person. He was married in 2010 in Acuna and had a baby son, born this year and who is the first grandchild of Humberto Moreira, who attended the birth.
President Felipe Calderon made contact with the state governor to coordinate efforts to enable the capture of those responsible. Federal agencies such as PGR and Sec of Marina will coordinate the investigation.
Reports are coming in that he was killed in a shootout between police and narcos, however people are rejecting that report saying he was executed and left on the road.  Other reports state that there were two killed.
Was it a revenge killing? From Proceso today 10.4.12

So far unclear what caused the murder, but unofficially it has emerged that could be revenge from the "Zetas" leader Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, alias "Z40".

This because the state police killed one of his nephews yesterday in Piedras Negras, after a confrontation in which four people died.

This hypothesis was based on a "narcobanners" appeared in the region with the text "family by family", whose entire content has not yet been released.

Today 10.5.12 reports are surfacing that Lalo was kidnapped earlier in the day, killed in an unknown location, though a good guess would be the rugged terrain of Santa Eulalia, then transporting the body back to be dumped in or adjacent to Acuna.  Santa Eulalia is the area behind Acuna that is used for off road ATV riding and hunting.

  8. What ridiculous statements against this person who few of you knew about. I have no tolerance for narco crime and those who facilitate them such as Lalo's father. He is scum. The kid was not. He was not even acknowledged by Bert until Bert ran for either Mayor of saltillo or gov. But everyone in Acuna knew.

There is a persistant story that his murder is related to the killing of 40s nephew in PN. I did not include it in the story because I like things a little tidy..I can see the connection why one would result in the other. something missing....perhaps someone can say..

  16. Chivis buen dia, yo sigo escuchando lo mismo que fue en venganza de la muerte del sobrino de un Zeta grande, There is still a lot of chatter that's not making sense but that is the main story. Now i'm just wondering if Humbertos Moreira's compadre el Ing. Muñoz was shaking businesses down in Cd. Acuña, lets not for get that this guy is Moreira's muscle man when it comes to buying(taking over) businnes for the Moreiera clan and in Cd. Acuña the Ramon family is still very very powerfull also lost a son years ago when they got in a power struggle with a PRI Govenor. Just my dos centavos. Cristero

  17. Mexicans and their stupid ass monuments. You know what will do more than a plaque on the side of the road? Some revenge from the PRI. Do these guys not run Mexico? All they need to do is call a meeting with the cartel bosses, get them in a room, and blast away. Do it all at once. Send a message. Sorta like Romney did to Obama last night!! Man did Obama loose big!!!! Hell send Romney! His dad was born just south of Juarez, and his family still lives there!

Now people are getting upset and we need some"respect"Why do you people not say this when it is someone who is not known?Hypocrites and false people claiming some connection to him?Because he was"celebrity"of sorts we owe him respect and refrain from certain comments?
No-one here knew him,you all don't show this much concern any other time?Maybe he was a good man, point is,why is it different all of a sudden?Because he was someone worth knowing?Nice people and person?

  22. It should not have been Lalo..SHould have been a different target. People, Lalo is not like the others, otherwise he would not have stayed in Acuna, he would have left long ago. His mother had affair with Bert and Lalo was born, he was not even acknowledged by Bert until He ran for office and in fear it would come out, he used to go regularly to see Lalo. So Lalo was not raised in that environment. His position was small, but he helped many poor people in the region. Berts other son next oldest is like Bert and raised by him. hes a punk. I would never promote a person that hurt Coahuila. this is not the person from your hate. But I understand you simply don't know the circumstance. and I understand the digust and hate towards Moreiras...and I agree, just not this one.....Paz, Chivis

Sergio also, but Eduardo is still in Acuna I believe, but last time I spoke to any of the family was 4 mos ago and she said they were probably moving to Texas. I thought at the time "someone" knows something that would be going down. very sad, I have so many close friends in Acuna and PN.....Paz, Chivis

  34. Hello 8:33 AM Sept. 4

I left commentaries in the blog section of the Border Control Agent killed and though I didn't express sorrow toward the loss of life, in life, I value Human Life and everything in life in general. We don't always communicate what we think and feel when we leave commentaries here but when it comes right down to the wire you'll find that people Do Care and want the violence to STOP. Loss of life is indeed 'sad' and it affects us, we feel something, we have thoughts of sorrow.

  44. Once again the innocent pay the price. As I sit here typing I can hear the news, the topic is the BP agent that was killed. Rumors are announcing a capture of 2 fugitives already. The American news will be be having a field day for some time with this story. Discussions and arguments regarding the border and it's "security" and what that means will once again strike up. Massive amounts of resources and man power will be focused on getting justice for the slain officer.

Now it makes me wonder if friends and family of "Lalo", or any of the victims in Mexico will see the same response for their tragedies, the same urgency to capture, not to mention a conviction (ha), the same outrage and outpouring of support, resources.? I fear that the opposite is expected. Things are swept under the carpet, hused up. No urgency, no convictions, no sympathy, no outrage let alone justice.

But that's the case for most every victim that is murdered, disappeared in this "war" isn't it. It's sickens me that the corruption and greed of the ruling minority are allowed to make Mexico a living nightmare for the peaceful and innocent majority.
